Μία από τις πιο ενδιαφέροντες και πολλά υποσχόμενες νέες μπάντες, στον χώρο του μελωδικού death metal, είναι οι Γάλλοι Aephanemer. Προσγειώθηκαν στην playlist μου κάπου το 2016 και από τότε δεν έχουν σταματήσει να με συνοδεύουν τις μουσικές μου περιπλανήσεις, οπότε όταν άκουσα πως θα βγουν για την πρώτη τους Βρετανική περιοδεία, φυσικά και φρόντισα να είμαι εκεί.
‘Έτσι λοιπόν στις 6 Σεπτεμβρίου κατευθύνθηκα προς το Trillians Rock Bar, στη μαγευτική πόλη του Newcastle Upon Tyne. Μαζί με τους Aephanemer θα είχα την χαρά να ακούσω για πρώτη μου φορά τους Control the Storm (melodic metal) και τους LN (pagan/viking metal).
Οι Control the Storm άνοιξαν την βραδιά και δεν απογοήτευσαν. Από την στιγμή που είδα την χαρισματική frontwoman τους στην σκηνή, ήξερα τι θα ακολουθήσει. Η Firouzeh είναι πραγματικά σαγηνευτική και ξέρει σίγουρα πως να κινείται πάνω σε μία σκηνή.
Όλα τα μέλη της μπάντας ήταν on point και το live τους ήταν άρτια εκτελεσμένο. Δεν είμαι γνώστης της μουσικής τους, αλλά αυτό που άκουσα μου άρεσε, δυναμικοί με ιδιαίτερη μουσική ταυτότητα και catchy song writing. Το ότι γυρνώντας σπίτι ήθελα να ακούσω περισσότερη απ’ την μουσική τους και να τους μάθω καλύτερα νομίζω τα λέει όλα.
Την σκυτάλη παραλαμβάνουν οι LN, με μία ακόμα frontwoman που μαγνητίζει τα βλέμματα. Οι LN είναι αυτό το fusion metal και Norse folk, του οποίου εγώ δεν είμαι ιδιαίετερα γνώστης, οφείλω να ομολογήσω, ίσως δεν έτυχε ποτέ να του δώσω τον χρόνο και την προσοχή ώστε να το γνωρίσω καλά ως είδος.
Παρόλα αυτά οι LN έχω να πω πως μας χάρισαν ελκυστικές ερμηνείες, άριστα εκτελεσμένες. Για μία μπάντα που κυκλοφόρησε το πρώτο της single το 2022 παρουσίασαν ένα live άκρως απολαυστικό και είχαν μία υπέροχη σκηνική παρουσία. Πολλά υποσχόμενοι και είμαι σίγουρη πως το μέλλον τους διαγράφεται λαμπρό. Watch this space!
Και ήρθε οι ώρα για τους αγαπημένους Aephanemer να ανέβουν στην σκηνή. Περίμενα με ανυπομονησία να δω αν αυτό το συναίσθημα που μου δημιουργούν ακούγοντάς τους ηχογραφημένους, καταφέρνουν να το δημιουργήσουν και live. Και φυσικά μπορούν….και με το παραπάνω. Τραγούδι με τραγούδι, μας χαρίζουν ποιοτικό μελωδικό death metal ξεσηκώνοντας συνεχώς το κοινό που τους δείχνει όλη του τη ζεστασιά.
Στιβαρές μπασογραμές από την Laure που παρέα με τον καταπληκτικό Mickaël στα τύμπανα, του οποίου το παίξιμο εμένα με εντυπωσίασε, προσέφεραν μία άριστη βάση και για το εξαιρετικό μελωδικό death metal που ακούσαμε.
Ο Martin στην κιθάρα, τρομερά επιδέξιος με τις μελωδίες του να προσδίδουν μία μαγική ατμόσφαιρα και με τα κοφτερά του σόλο να αποδεικνύουν το πόσο καλός είναι σε αυτό που κάνει.
Για την Marion, δεν ξέρω τι να πω πρωτοπώ αλήθεια. Τα γρυλίσματα της επιθετικά, η ρυθμική κιθάρα της μονίμως αναμμένη και η ίδια να αναβλύζει τόση γλυκύτητα με το χαμόγελό της και το αστραφτερό καθαρό της βλέμμα, επικοινωνώντας με τον καθένα έναν μας ξεχωριστά.
Οι Aephanemer έχουν μία από τις πιο θετικές αύρες που έχω συναντήσει σε live, είναι όλοι τους πάντα χαμογελαστοί με υπέροχη επικοινωνία μεταξύ τους αλλά και με το κοινό, και είναι εμφανώς χαρούμενοι που βρίσκονται επάνω στην σκηνή. Μία καταπληκτική εμφάνιση γεμάτη επαγγελματισμό, τσαμπουκά και πάθος από μία μπάντα που αν δεν έχετε ακόμα ακούσει πολύ κακώς και που σας συνιστώ ανεπιφύλακτα να δείτε ζωντανά όταν σας δοθεί η ευκαιρία.
Η απόβαση των Aephanemer επί Βρετανικού εδάφους ήταν επιτυχής και άκρως απολαυστική για εμάς και ελπίζουμε και για εκείνους.

One of the most interesting and promising new bands in the field of melodic death metal is the French Aephanemer. They landed on my playlist somewhere in 2016 and since then they haven’t stopped accompanying me on my musical wanderings, so when I heard that they were coming out for their first UK tour, of course I made sure to be there.
So on the 6th of September I headed to Trillians Rock Bar in the magical city of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Alongside with Aephanemer I would have the pleasure of seeing live for the first time, Control the Storm (melodic metal) and LN (pagan/viking metal) .
Control the Storm opened the night and they did not disappoint. From the moment I saw their charismatic frontwoman on stage, I knew what was to come. Firouzeh is truly captivating and she definitely knows how to move on a stage.
All the band members were on point and their live performance was well executed and with beautiful engagement with the audience. I’m not familiar with their music, but I liked what I heard, it was explosive, dynamic with a distinct musical identity and catchy song writing. The fact that I came home wanting to hear more of their music and get to know them better I think says it all.
And the baton is passed to LN, with another frontwoman who captures the audience. LN is that fusion of metal and Norse folk, of which I am not a connoisseur, I must admit, perhaps it never happened to give it the time and attention required to get to know it well as a genre.
Nevertheless, I have to say that LN gave us engaging performances, excellently executed. For a band that released their first single in 2022 they put on a thoroughly enjoyable live performance and had a great stage presence. Very promising and I’m sure their future is bright. Watch this space!
And it’s time for the beloved Aephanemer to take onto the stage. I was eagerly waiting to see if this feeling they create for me by listening to them recorded, they manage to create it live. And of course they did. Song after song, they give us quality melodic death metal, constantly stirring up the audience that showed them all their warmth.
Punchy basslines from Laure who together with the amazing Mickaël on drums, whose playing style impressed me, provided an solid foundation for the excellent melodic death metal we heard on Wednesday night.
Martin on the guitar was magnetising and tremendously skilled. With his melodies creating a magical atmosphere and his sharp solos proving how good he is at what he does.
For Marion, I don’t know what to say, really. Her aggressive growls, her rhythm guitar permanently on fire, and herself exuding so much sweetness with her smile and sparkling clear eyes, communicating with each of one us individually. Simply mesmerizing.
Aephanemer have one of the most positive auras I’ve come across at live shows, they are all always smiling with great communication with each other as well as the audience and they are clearly happy to be on stage. An amazing performance full of professionalism, grit and passion from a band that if you haven’t listened to yet, you need to as you are very much in for a treat and that I would highly recommend you see them live when you get the chance.
Aephanemer’s landing on British soil was successful and highly enjoyable for us and hopefully for them too. Until next time.
