Οι AmongRuins, μετά από 2,5 χρόνια και το Land Of The Black Sun, έρχονται για να συνεχίσουν με συνέπεια το προφίλ σύγχρονου melodic death metal ήχου που έχουν χτίσει. Το Advent Of Chaos είναι η τέταρτη κυκλοφορία τους, η οποία κυκλοφορεί από τις 20 Φεβρουαρίου μέσω της Theogonia Records.

Στο Advent Of Chaos υπάρχει μία ροή στα κομμάτια και μία συνέχεια στο συναίσθημα που μπορεί να προκαλέσει στον ακροατή. Ξεκινά δυναμικά, με νεύρο, βάζοντας όποιον πατήσει το play κατευθείαν στο κλίμα.

Συγκεκριμένα, στο “Frozen to the Core” βρίσκουμε έντονα riffs και μελωδικές κιθάρες, με τη βαριά, death φωνή του Sverd να αναδεικνύεται. Το κομμάτι σε βάζει αμέσως να καταλάβεις τον κύριο χαρακτήρα του δίσκου (ίσως με λίγες εκπλήξεις που θα αναλύσουμε στη συνέχεια!).Η ροή συνεχίζεται με το “Advent of Chaos”, όπου συναντάμε τον ίδιο δυνατό παλμό. Τα καθαρά φωνητικά στο ρεφρέν είναι από αυτά που, αργά ή γρήγορα, θα τα φωνάζουμε στα live, ενώ το solo κάνει το κομμάτι ακόμα πιο ερωτεύσιμο.“Red Divine” — ή αλλιώς το χιτάκι με το catchy ρεφρέν! Από το πρώτο άκουσμα ήδη σιγοψιθύριζα “the red divine”. Ναι, μου κόλλησε. Και ναι, οριακά μπήκα στον ρόλο των backing vocals (μπορείτε να φανταστείτε πόσο καλά πήγε αυτό!). Το κομμάτι ανεβάζει τον παλμό και έχει εξαιρετικό δέσιμο με τα πλήκτρα του Christos Mitros. Αλλά γιατί να είμαστε back; Ας τα φωνάζουμε front, μαζί τους (θέλει εξαιρετική γυμναστική να κανουμε σωστα backing vocals και headbanging.. δεν ειναι για μενα αυτα τώρα).Ιδιαίτερη εντύπωση μου έκανε η εισαγωγή του “Into the Flame”. Μελωδική αρχή, δυνατή riffάρα, καθαρά φωνητικά από την Christianna (Elysion) και ένας εξαιρετικός συνδυασμός της φωνής της με εκείνη του Sverd. Όλα αυτά πλαισιώνονται από death στοιχεία και breakdowns που δίνουν μια ελαφρώς διαφορετική γεύση στο άλμπουμ.Το “A Symphony of Loss” φέρνει αγαπημένες εναλλαγές, αλλαγές μέτρου και μια διάθεση που στα δικά μου αυτιά επιστρέφει στο κλασικό melodic death ύφος που αγαπάμε για να τα σαρώσει. Για ακόμα μία φορά, τα πλήκτρα δένουν ιδανικά τη συνταγή.Λίγο μελαγχολία η Αννέτα την ήθελε και την βρήκε στο “Open Wounds”. Τα φωνητικά του George Prokopiou (Mother Of Millions, Poem), σε συνδυασμό με του Sverd, με έφεραν αντιμέτωπη με δύο όψεις του εαυτού μου — κάτι που η μέταλ κάνει συχνά και λατρεύω όταν συμβαίνει! Η ενορχήστρωση κινείται σε πιο doom μονοπάτια, διατηρώντας όμως τον death πυρήνα and I’m always here for it! Και πριν προλάβουμε να βυθιστούμε πολύ στη μελαγχολία, το “Chained” έρχεται σαν το πατζούρι που ανοίγεις το πρωί. Thrash εσάνς, ενέργεια και ένα εξαιρετικό solo μας επαναφέρουν στον παλμό.Το “Night Mother” κλείνει το άλμπουμ με ένταση και έτσι όπως το ακούς πάρε και άλλη εναλλαγή ρυθμού.Καταλαβαίνω απόλυτα γιατί κλείνει με αυτο το Advent Of Chaos καθώς σε αυτό το κομμάτι, περιέχει συναισθήματα και μελωδίες που συνάντησα κάπου -κάπου μέσα στο άλμπουμ.

Το Advent Of Chaos είναι ένα melodic death άλμπουμ που αποπνέει αγάπη για το είδος. Αυτό που με κέρδισε περισσότερο είναι ότι δεν φοβήθηκαν να πειραματιστούν μέσα στο πλαίσιο του ύφους τους, ενσωματώνοντας στοιχεία από άλλα είδη. Και ίσως αυτός να είναι ο λόγος που σε στιγμές με άγγιξε περισσότερο.Δεν με χάνει. Κερδίζει την προσοχή μου, τη διάθεσή μου και τις σκέψεις μου.

AmongRuins return after 2.5 years since Land Of The Black Sun, continuing with consistency the modern melodic death metal identity they have built. Advent Of Chaos is their fourth release, out on February 20th via Theogonia Records.

There’s a clear flow throughout Advent Of Chaos — not just between the tracks, but in the emotional thread that runs through the album. It kicks off dynamically and with attitude, immediately pulling anyone who presses play straight into its atmosphere.

Specifically, “Frozen to the Core” delivers intense riffs and melodic guitars, with Sverd’s heavy death vocals standing out prominently. The track instantly introduces you to the album’s core character (perhaps with a few surprises we’ll get to later). The momentum continues with the title track, “Advent of Chaos,” carrying the same powerful drive. The clean vocals in the chorus are the kind you’ll inevitably find yourself shouting at live shows, while the solo makes the song even more irresistible.“Red Divine” — or simply the catchy anthem of the album. From the first listen, I was already whispering “the red divine.” Yes, it stuck with me immediately. And yes, I almost stepped into the role of backing vocals (you can imagine how well that went). The song raises the intensity and blends beautifully with Christos Mitros’ keyboards. But why stay in the back? This is one to sing front and center, together with the band.(it takes great practice to do proper backing vocals and headbanging.. those aren’t for me right now).The intro of “Into the Flame” particularly caught my attention. A melodic opening leads into a powerful riff, followed by clean vocals from Christianna (Elysion), whose voice combines perfectly with Sverd’s. All of this is framed by strong death elements and breakdowns that add a slightly different flavor to the album.“A Symphony of Loss” brings beloved tempo changes, shifts in meter, and a mood that, to my ears, returns to the classic melodic death metal style we love. Once again, the keyboards tie everything together seamlessly.I needed a touch of melancholy, and I found it in “Open Wounds”. George Prokopiou’s (Mother Of Millions, Poem) vocals, combined with Sverd’s, made me confront two emotional sides of myself — something metal often does, and I absolutely love when it happens. The orchestration leans into doom territories while maintaining its death metal core — and I’m always here for it.Before we sink too deeply into melancholy, “Chained” arrives like opening the shutters on a bright morning. Thrash touches, energy, and an excellent solo bring us right back into the album’s pulse.“Night Mother” closes the album with intensity, delivering yet another shift in rhythm just when you think you’ve settled into its pace. I completely understand why it was chosen as the closing track, as it gathers emotions and melodic themes that appeared throughout the album into one final statement.

Advent Of Chaos is a melodic death metal album that clearly reflects love for the genre. What won me over the most is that the band wasn’t afraid to experiment within their sound, incorporating elements from other styles. Perhaps that’s exactly why certain moments resonated with me so deeply.

It doesn’t lose me — it holds my attention, my mood, and my thoughts.
