Οι ANIMA TRISTE δεν είναι μία σύνηθες περίπτωση, ειδικά όταν μιλάμε για τον χώρο στον οποίο κινούνται μουσικά. Η μπάντα, θες λίγο λόγω ηλικίας των μελών της, θες λόγω ακουσμάτων και νοοτροπίας, αρέσκονται στα “καθαρά” πράγματα. Στα αγνά και ανόθευτα goth μονοπάτια στα οποία και οι ίδιοι μεγάλωσαν. Δεν τους αρέσουν οι πιο σύγχρονες ματιές στο συγκεκριμένο θέμα, ούτε η συνηθισμένη πλέον electro πλευρά του θέματος. Τουλάχιστον όχι όσον αφορά την δική τους μουσική. Εκεί δεν χωράνε “κορδέλες”, κάτι που θα μπορούσε να λειτουργήσει πολύ αρνητικά γενικά και εύκολα μάλιστα θα προσθέσω. Θα μπορούσε, δεν συμβαίνει όμως, αντιθέτως, η μπάντα ακούγεται τόσο φρέσκια και παράλληλα τόσο “κλασική”. Όσο “αντίθετα” είναι πολλές φορές και τα vibes μέσα στην μουσικής τους δηλαδή. Το πως με έναν μαγικό τρόπο καταφέρνουν να συνδυάσουν την μελαγχολία με την χορευτική μουσικά διάθεση. Την οργή σε άλλες περιπτώσεις με τον ρομαντισμό, και όλα αυτά χωρίς να ακούγονται παρωχημένοι. Το φαινόμενο δηλαδή του “χατζή” που έχουμε στα metal μονοπάτια (μην γελάς εσύ που διαβάζεις, ξέρεις πολύ καλά ποιος είσαι), εδώ πάει περίπατο.
Οι ANIMA TRISTE γενικά σε ταξιδεύουν, είναι πάρα πολύ σε αυτό. Η μουσική τους έχει χρώμα, πολλές φορές συγκεκριμένο μεν, αλλά με διαφορετική υφή δε. Έχουν μυρωδιά και άρωμα, παρελθοντικό μεν, συναισθημάτων και καταστάσεων επίκαιρων όσο ποτέ ίσως, δε. Παράλληλα, τους δίνει πολλά συν το ότι δεν έχουν πολλά από τα κλισέ αυτού του είδους στην μουσική τους, δεν ακολουθούν φόρμες και “πρέπει” και παρόλα αυτά κατορθώνουν και δεν βγαίνουν και ποτέ εκτός “γραμμής”. Φοβερό αν με ρωτάς, χρειάζεται ταυτότητα και γνώση του ήχου βαθιά ριζωμένη. Στο Alone η μπάντα έχει διαφορετικό πρόσωπο από αυτό των δυο προηγούμενων δίσκων. Το ντεμπούτο είχε διάχυτη την οργή και την Punk καταβολή, το Humanity είχε ατμόσφαιρα και ωρίμανση, εδώ βασιλιάς είναι η μελαγχολία όπως προανέφερα και ο “ρομαντισμός”. Ακόλουθος φυσικά πάντα οι ατελείωτες μελωδίες από μεριάς Greg DiRt στις κιθάρες. Γεμάτος ήχος, με θέματα και περάσματα. Ο “νέος” της παρέας Jim Gadd πίσω από τα τύμπανα, στον οποίο χρεώνεται και η παραγωγή του δίσκου, ηχεί σαν κοινό σώμα από χρόνια. Όσοι ξέρουν την μπάντα ξέρουν επίσης πως ο χείμαρρος είναι πάντα ο Mad Sad. Δεν υπάρχει φίλτρο για αυτόν, ούτε στην έκφραση, ούτε στην ερμηνεία, ούτε στο τι και πως λέει αυτό που πρέπει να πει.
Εννέα κομμάτια περιέχει το Alone, και τα εννέα διαφορετικές όψεις του ίδιου νομίσματος, κατ επέκταση εννέα διαφορετικά πρόσωπα και υπάρξεις, εξίσου όμορφες και ιδιαίτερες. Κοινώς, δεν ξεχωρίζω κομμάτι, διαλέξτε εσείς αυτό που ταιριάζει στον δικό σας κόσμο. Χρειαζόμαστε κιαλες μπάντες σε αυτόν το ήχο στην Ελλάδα, ανάθεμα, δεν ξέρω προσωπικά καμία άλλη που να παίζει σαν ετούτους.

And here we are, when the reason is right, everything can happen. My role at Metalradio is not that of a reviewer, but Elena Michaelidou was kind enough to give me approval for this one,due to a special occasion. This occasion goes by the name ANIMA TRISTE and their third album, Alone. For the record, the band started in 2014 and since then they have released three albums, the self-titled Anima Triste in 2016, Humanity in 2019 and of course Alone which is now counting a few days of life.
ANIMA TRISTE is not a common band, especially when we talk about the field in which they move musically. The band, given the age of its members, given the sounds in which they grew up and the mentality of it, they like their music “clean”. The pure and untouched goth paths in which they themselves grew up. They don’t like the more modern approach to this particular sound, nor the now common electro side of the scene. At least not when it comes to their own music. There’s no room for “sprinkles” there, which could turn out very negatively in general and quite easily I might add. It could, but it doesn’t, on the contrary, the band sounds so fresh and at the same time so “classic”. As “opposite” as the vibes within their music often are, that is. How in a magical way they manage to combine melancholy with a danceable musical mood. The rage in other cases with romanticism, and all this without sounding outdated.
ANIMA TRISTE generally take you on a journey, they are very good at doing that. Their music has colour, often specific, but with a different texture every time. They have scent and aroma, of older days on the one hand, but of emotions and situations that are as present as never before on the other. At the same time, it gives them a lot of pluses the fact that they don’t have many of the clichés of this genre in their music, they don’t follow forms and “musts” and yet they manage to never get out of the “line”. Awesome if you ask me, it requires strong identity and knowledge of the sound deeply rooted. On Alone the band has a different face from the one on the two previous albums. The debut had pervasive rage and Punk roots, Humanity had atmosphere and maturity, here, melancholy is the king as I mentioned before and “romanticism”. Accompanied of course always by the endless melodies from Greg DiRt on guitars. Full sound, with themes and passages. The “new guy” of the group Jim Gadd behind the drums, who is also credited with the production of the album, sounds like a common body from years ago. Those who know the band also know that the bands huricane is always Mad Sad. There is no filter for and on him, not in expression, not in interpretation, not in what and how he says what he has to say.
Alone consists of nine tracks , all of them being different sides of the same coin, thus nine different faces and existences, equally beautiful and special. In short, I’m not singling out any specific song, you feel free to pick the one that fits your world. We need more bands with this sound in Greece, damn, I personally don’t know any other band that plays like these guys.
