Έχω μόνο βαθιά εκτίμηση στη δημιουργική ιδιοφυΐα του Tuomas Saukonenn, καθώς έχω συνειδητοποιήσει ότι δεν με έχει απογοητεύσει ποτέ με τις μουσικές του περιπέτειες. Και έχω συνειδητοποιήσει, ότι με κάθε συγκρότημα εκφράζει ένα άλλο μέρος μιας δημιουργικής πηγής, που θέλω να πιστεύω ότι βρίσκεται κάπου σε μια σκοτεινή γωνιά της καρδιάς του. Οι BEFORE THE DAWN είναι μια μπάντα που εκτιμώ και στεναχωρήθηκα πολύ όταν έκαναν διάλειμμα, οπότε η είδηση ότι επιστρέφουν με νέο άλμπουμ και έναν τόσο μοναδικό τραγουδιστή όπως ο Paavo Laapotti, ήταν πραγματικά πολύ καλή.
Το Stormbringers ήρθε σαν καταιγίδα στα μέσα του καλοκαιριού για να καταλάβει το player μου και να μου προκαλέσει συναισθήματα. Με βαρύ riffing και μελαγχολικές μελωδίες, ακούγεται σαν να μην έφυγαν ποτέ. Ωστόσο, πρέπει να πω ότι απολαμβάνω πολύ το χρώμα της φωνής του Paavo, καθώς ακροβατεί μεταξύ καθαρών και brutal φωνητικών. Ειδικά στα καθαρά σημεία είναι σαν να ξυπνάει μια ξεχασμένη ανάμνηση που σε κάνει να χαμογελάς και να κλαις ταυτόχρονα. Λατρεύω τον τρόπο με τον οποίο η κλασική κιθάρα μπλέκει μέσα στα τραγούδια και τη χρήση κλασικού πιάνου, όπως για παράδειγμα στο Divided.
Η μπάντα ξεκίνησε ως το σόλο πρότζεκτ του βραβευμένου με Finnish Metal Award Tuomas Saukkonen (Wolfheart) το 1999, αλλά με την πάροδο των χρόνων υπήρξαν αρκετές αλλαγές στη σύνθεση. Με το νέο lineup, η μπάντα παρουσιάζει τις μεγαλύτερες αλλαγές της μέχρι τώρα. Ο προηγούμενος κιθαρίστας και τραγουδιστής Tuomas έχει μετακομίσει πίσω από τα ντραμς, και ο ταλαντούχος φιναλίστ του Voice Of Finland 2022 Paavo Laapotti έχει αναλάβει όλα τα φωνητικά καθήκοντα, ενώ ο Juho Räihä αναλαμβάνει την κιθάρα. Έχει συμμετάσχει στους BEFORE THE DAWN ως σολο κιθαρίστας από το 2006 και είναι επίσης γνωστός από τους SWALLOW THE SUN.
Νιώθω ότι σε σύγκριση με το παρελθόν της μπάντας- η εμπειρία που αποκτήθηκε με τα χρόνια είναι εμφανής ειδικά στον τρόπο που χτίζονται οι μελωδίες. Το διάλειμμα των 10 ετών έχει κάνει τη νέα ενσάρκωση των BEFORE THE DAWN ίσως την καλύτερη. Δυσκολεύομαι πολύ να επισημάνω συγκεκριμένα τραγούδια, αλλά αν έπρεπε, πιστεύω ότι το The Dark θα έπρεπε να είναι η πρώτη μου επιλογή αλλά ομολογώ ότι λατρεύω και τις goth επιρροές στο Chaostar. Συνολικά, μπορώ να πω μόνο ένα πράγμα για το Stormbringers, θα το λατρέψετε!

I have nothing but deep appreciation to the creative genius of Tuomas Saukonenn as I have come to realize, he has never disappointed me with his musical endeavors. And I have come to realize, that with every band he expresses another part of a creative fountain, I’d like to believe set somewhere in a dark corner of his heart. BEFORE THE DAWN is a band I cherish and was very saddened when they went into hiatus, so the news that they were coming back with a new album and such a unique singer as Paavo Laapotti, was great news.
Stormbringers came like a thunderstorm in mid-summer to take over my player and stir emotions. With heavy riffing and melancholic melodies, it sounds like they never went away. However, I have to say I enjoy very much the color of Paavo’s voice as he lingers between clean and brutal vocals. Especially in the clean parts it feels like he awakens a long-forgotten memory that makes you smile and cry at the same time. I love the way the classic guitar is rooted in the songs and the use of classic piano, like it is in Divided for example.
The band originated as Finnish Metal Award winning Tuomas Saukkonen’s (Wolfheart) solo projectback in 1999, but throughout the years, there have been several lineup changes. With the new lineup, the band introduces its biggest changes so far. Previous guitarist and vocalist Tuomas has moved behind the drums, and talented Voice Of Finland 2022 finalist Paavo Laapotti has taken on all vocalist duties, while Juho Räihä is taking over the guitar. He has been part of BEFORE THE DAWN as solo guitarist since 2006 and is also known from being a member of SWALLOW THE SUN. I feel that compared to the band’s past; the experience gained over the years is obvious especially on the way the melodies are built up. The 10-year hiatus has made the new incarnation of BEFORE THE DAWN probably it’s best. I have great difficulty in pointing out specific songs but if I had to, I believe The Dark would have to be my first choice but I do love the goth influences in Chaostar. All in all, I can only say one thing for Stormbringers, you will love it!
