Ακόμη και για μένα νομίζω αυτό το σερί είναι περίεργο, μη πω πρωτόγνωρο. Έχω γράψει review για κάθε άλμπουμ των FULL HOUSE BC από το Me Against You μέχρι σήμερα και κάθε φορά ξεκινάω περίπου με τον ίδιο τρόπο. Τι πήγατε και κάνατε εκεί βρε παλιόπαιδα; Πήγατε και φτιάξατε μια αλμπουμάρα καλύτερη από την προηγούμενη; Γιατί αν το πάρεις αυξητικά και σε βάθος χρόνου καθώς προχωρούν οι κυκλοφορίες η μπάντα γίνεται όλο και καλύτερη με κάθε της δισκογραφικό βήμα!
Αυτοί είναι οι FULL HOUSE BREW CREW φίλοι μου και αν τους έχετε ακούσει, διαβάζοντας αυτές τις γραμμές αυτό θα σκέφτεστε και εσείς. Στις 6 Φεβρουαρίου λοιπόν έρχεται το επόμενο δισκογραφικό βήμα για την μπάντα που εξερευνά το χώρο του groove metal φλερτάρει με το metalcore ή ακόμη και το Gojiroτεχνικό ήχο. Στο καινούριο τους άλμπουμ είναι πιο επιθετικοί από ποτέ. Από ότι μας είπε και ο Βαγγέλης Καρζής, τραγουδιστής κιθαρίστας και βασικός συνθέτης της μπάντας είναι σε μια τέτοια φάση και για αυτό ο τίτλος Glasgow Grin που πήρε την έμπνευσή του από το Glasgow smile που είναι αυτό που οι συμμορίες των δρόμων έκαναν και μοιάζει με αυτό το χαμόγελο στα μάγουλα του Tζόκερ που ουσιαστικά ένα μαχαίρι έχει διευρύνει τις γωνίες του χαμόγελου σκίζοντας τα μάγουλα.
Ας ξεκινήσουμε από το γεγονός ότι οι συνθέσεις δεν μοιάζουν με τις προηγούμενες κυκλοφορίες και έχουν μέσα ατμόσφαιρες metalcore, μελωδικό death, groove και πολύ περισσότερα brutal φωνητικά. Σκεφτείτε THY ART IS MURDER, FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY, GOJIRA, DARK TRANQUILITY, OV SULFUR… σκεφτείτε τα εσείς γιατί ο Βαγγέλης δεν τα σκέφτηκε (δείτε τη συνέντευξη παρακάτω και θα καταλάβετε) Για την ακρίβεια τα καθαρά θα τα ψάξετε και θα τα βρείτε σε καμιά γωνίτσα που και που. Όπως μας εξήγησε ο Βαγγέλης και στη συνέντευξη αυτή τη φορά ήταν πολύ μεγαλύτερη η συμμετοχή όλης της μπάντας και σίγουρα η προσθήκη του νέου ντράμερ έκανε μεγάλη διαφορά. Τον είχαμε δει και στο live της παρουσίασης του RISE OF THE UNDERDOGS και φαινόταν ήδη από εκεί ότι ο Χρήστος παίζει λες και η ζωή του εξαρτάται από αυτό. Αυτή ωστόσο είναι η πρώτη φορά που δισκογραφεί με τη μπάντα και η πινελιά του ταίριαξε και απογείωσε το αποτέλεσμα. Τα τραγούδια είναι από τσαμπουκαλεμένα έως εξαγριωμένα και ταυτίζεσαι με τα «νεύρα» τους από το πρώτο άκουσμα. Για πρώτη φορά, συνεργαστήκαν με τον Saku Moilanen, έναν καταπληκτικό ηχολήπτη από τη Φινλανδία, ο οποίος ακολούθησε το όραμα της μπάντας σε αυτό το άγριο μονοπάτι και δημιούργησε αυτές τις εξαιρετικά καθαρές κιθάρες, προσθέτοντας όμως και εκείνη την ένταση και τον δυναμικό ήχο των φωνητικών και των ντραμς.
Εκτός από τα τρία single που έχουν ήδη βγει στο YouTube No Gods, No Chains, Freefall και Tear εγώ ξεχώρισα πολύ το Distant Star και το Τhe Other Side. Ο Βαγγέλης μας εξήγησε ότι πάντα έτσι ήθελε να παίξει απλά μέχρι τώρα δεν μπορούσε. Εμείς θα πούμε ότι χαιρόμαστε που έφτασαν σε αυτό το σημείο. Στο προηγούμενο άλμπουμ είχα εντυπωσιαστεί με το άλμα που είχε κάνει o Βαγγέλης στα φωνητικά στο GLASGOW GRIN νομίζω ότι έχουν κάνει όλοι πολλά βήματα μπροστά. Όλη αυτή η ενέργεια που έδωσε η μπάντα, που αφοσιώθηκε, έβαλε ιδέες, μεράκι και ικανότητα απέδωσε και το ολοκληρωμένο αποτέλεσμα είναι το καλύτερο άλμπουμ των FULL HOUSE BREW CREW μέχρι σήμερα και σίγουρα μια από τις καλύτερες κυκλοφορίες της χρονιάς παρόλο που βγαίνει 6 Φεβρουαρίου που είναι και η live παρουσίαση στο Arch στην Αθήνα. Ραντεβού εκεί να ιδρώσουμε γιατί νομίζω δεν θα μείνει ούτε ένας αυχένας στη θέση του με το GLASGOW GRIN.

Even for me, I think this streak is strange, not to say unprecedented. I have written reviews for every FULL HOUSE BC album from Me Against You to today, and every time I start in pretty much the same way. What did you go and do there, you old boys? Did you go and make an album better than the last one? Because if you take it incrementally and over time, as the releases progress, the band gets better and better with every recording step!
These are FULL HOUSE BREW CREW, my friends, and if you’ve heard them, reading these lines will make you think so too. So, on February 6th, the band’s next album is coming, exploring the realm of groove metal, flirting with metalcore, and even Gojira’s technical sound. In their new album, they are more aggressive than ever. As Vangeliss Karzis, singer, guitarist, and main composer of the band, said on Metalradio.gr they are in such a phase, which is why the title GLASGOW GRIN was inspired by the Glasgow smile, which is what street gangs used to do and resembles the smile on the Joker’s cheeks, which is essentially a pocket knife has widened the corners of the smile by tearing the cheeks.
Let’s start with the fact that the compositions are unlike previous releases and feature metalcore, melodic death, groove, and much more brutal vocals. Think of bands such as THY ART IS MURDER, FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY, GOJIRA, DARK TRANQUILITY, OV SULFUR… think about it yourselves because Vangeliss didn’t (watch the interview above and you’ll understand- subs included). To be precise, you will search for the clean parts and find them here and there. As Vangeliss explained to us in the interview, this time the whole band was much more involved, and the addition of the new drummer certainly made a big difference. We had seen him live at the presentation of RISE OF THE UNDERDOGS, and it was already apparent that Christos plays as if his life depends on it. However, this is the first time he has recorded with the band, and his touch fit perfectly and elevated the result. The songs range from aggressive to furious, and you identify with their “aggression” from the first listen. For the first time, they collaborated with Saku Moilanen, an amazing sound engineer from Finland, who followed the band’s vision on this wild path and created these extremely clear guitars, while also adding that intensity and dynamic sound to the vocals and drums.
Apart from the three singles that have already been released on YouTube, No Gods, No Chains, Freefall, and Tear, I particularly liked Distant Star and The Other Side. Vangeliss explained to us that this is how he always wanted to play, but until now he couldn’t. We are delighted that they have reached this point. On the previous album, I was impressed by the leap Vangeliss had made in his vocals. On GLASGOW GRIN, I think everyone has taken many steps forward. All the energy the band put in, their dedication, their ideas, passion, and skill has paid off, and the end result is FULL HOUSE BREW CREW‘s best album to date and definitely one of the best releases of the year, even though it comes out so early in the year, February 6th which is also the date of their live presentation at Arch Club in Athens. See you there to sweat it out, because I don’t think there will be a single neck left in place with GLASGOW GRIN.
