Οι HEATHEN FORAY μας έρχονται από την Στυρία της Αυστρίας και έκαναν την πρώτη τους δισκογραφική εμφάνιση το 2009, με το ντεμπούτο άλμπουμ τους The Passage. Οι HEATHEN FORAY αποτελούνται από τον τραγουδιστή Robert Schroll, τους κιθαρίστες Jürgen Brüder και Alex Wildinger, τον Max Wildinger στο μπάσο και τον Markus “Puma” Kügerl στα τύμπανα. Το Oathbreaker είναι η 6η ολοκληρωμένη δουλειά των modern melopagan death metallers HEATHEN FORAY που κυκλοφόρησε από την Massacre Records στις 7 Απριλίου 2023.
Το Oathbreaker αποτελείται από 8 κομμάτια συνολικής διάρκειας 41 λεπτών, με το ομώνυμο Oathbreaker να ανοίγει το άλμπουμ με τραγανούς death metal, πιασάρικους ήχους και άφθονη μελωδικότητα, με τους στίχους, που είναι τόσο στα αγγλικά όσο και στα γερμανικά, να καταπιάνονται με την προδοσία της φύσης από τον άνθρωπο. Ένα δυνατό και απολαυστικό εναρκτήριο τραγούδι που σε βάζει κατευθείαν σε διάθεση ακρόασης.
Το Oathbreaker θα συνεχίσει με αρκετά power-epic metal διαθέσεις, αλλά και πάρα πολλούς folk ήχους όπως στο Ahnenreih, για το οποίο η μπάντα συγκέντρωσε ιστορίες και αποσπάσματα από αποθανόντες συγγενείς και τα συνδύασε σε ένα άκρως συγκινητικό τραγούδι στη μητρική τους διάλεκτο ώστε να εκφράσουν τα συναισθήματά τους όσο πιο ατόφια γίνεται.
Και από εκεί και πέρα οι HEATHEN FORAY θα συνεχίσουν με αρκετά επιθετικά riffs ανεβάζοντας τους ρυθμούς ενώ θα καταφέρουν να διατηρήσουν μία πολύ ατμοσφαιρική death metal διάθεση. Το 1000 Years of Human Flesh στιχουργικά, αλλά και μουσικά, δίνει μία αμείλικτη γροθιά στην κατεστημένη οργανωμένη θρησκεία και είναι ένα από τα αγαπημένα μου του δίσκου.
Το Raiment κινείται σε ένα παρόμοιο επίπεδο επιθετικότητας, αγγίζοντας στιχουργικά κοινωνικά θέματα όπως η παιδική εργασία και ο καταναλωτισμός, ξεχωρίζοντας ηχητικά από όλα τα υπόλοιπα κομμάτια του δίσκου αφού είναι σίγουρα πιο groovy και έχει μια πιο παιχνιδιάρικη εκτελεστικά διάθεση με τους HEATHEN FORAY να διευρύνουν τον ήχο που μάς έχουν συνηθίσει μέχρι στιγμής στο Oathbreaker.
Οι HEATHEN FORAY συνεχίζουν να δίνουν προσοχή στον ήχο τους και να διατηρούν την αυθεντικότητά τους μέσω των μουσικών και των στίχων τους. Neo-Pagan death metal ατμόσφαιρα και όμορφες μελωδίες που όταν εμπλουτίζονται με τα folk στοιχεία μας δίνουν ένα Oathbreaker που αξίζει την προσοχή μας και με το παραπάνω και που αφήνει ευχαριστημένους τους ήδη οπαδούς, αλλά και τους νέους ακροατές της μπάντας.

HEATHEN FORAY come to us from Styria, Austria and they made their first recording appearance in 2009, with their debut album The Passage. HEATHEN FORAY consists of vocalist Robert Schroll, guitarists Jürgen Brüder and Alex Wildinger, Max Wildinger on bass and Markus “Puma” Kügerl on drums. Oathbreaker is the 6th full-length album by modern melopagan death metallers HEATHEN FORAY released by Massacre Records on April 7, 2023.
Oathbreaker consists of 8 tracks totaling 41 minutes in length, with the title track Oathbreaker opening the album with crisp death metal, catchy sounds and plenty of melodicism with the lyrics, which are in both English and German, dealing with the betrayal of nature by man. A powerful and delightful opening song that puts you straight into a listening mood.
Oathbreaker will continue with power-epic metal mood ,ut also a lot of folk sounds like in Ahnenreih, for which the band gathered stories and quotes from deceased relatives and fellow human beings and combined them into a highly touching song which is sung in their native dialect, therefore it achieves to express their feelings as pure as possible.
From there on HEATHEN FORAY will continue with quite aggressive riffs raising the rhythm while they will manage to maintain a very atmospheric death metal mood. 1000 Years of Human Flesh lyrically, but also musically, delivers a relentless punch to established organised religion and is also one of my favourites of the album.
Raiment moves on a similar level of aggression, lyrically touching on social issues such as child labour and consumerism and standing out sound wise from all the other tracks on the album as it is definitely more groovy and has a more playful delivery, with HEATHEN FORAY expanding the sound we have been used to so far on Oathbreaker.
HEATHEN FORAY continue to pay attention to their sound and maintain their authenticity through their music and lyrics. Neo-Pagan death metal atmosphere and beautiful melodies that when fused with folk elements give us an Oathbreaker that is totally worth our attention and that leaves already fans, but also new listeners of the band happy.
