Οι MOTHER OF MILLIONS είναι πραγματικά ένα από τα πιο μοναδικά και όμορφα συγκροτήματα που θα ακούσεις ποτέ. Δημιουργήθηκαν το 2008 και αποτελούνταν από τους Μάκη Τσαμκόσογλου, Γιώργο Προκοπίου, Κώστα Κωνσταντινίδη, Πάνο Πρίφτη και Γιώργο Μπουκαούρη. Μέχρι και το 2019 μας είχαν χαρίσει 3 ολοκληρωμένα albums, Human (2014), Sigma (2017) και Artifacts (2019), με τα δύο τελευταία να αποτελούν δύο από τα πιο όμορφα progressive albums που έχω ακούσει μέχρι στιγμής. Δυστυχώς τον Ιούνιο του 2019 ο Μάκης Τσαμκόσογλου έφυγε ξαφνικά από τη ζωή κατά τη διάρκεια μίας συναυλίας. Το φθινόπωρο του 2019 και μετά από μία αποχαιρετιστήρια συναυλία για τον Μάκη, οι MOTHER OF MILLIONS είπαν: “Οι MOTHER OF MILLIONS είναι ένα συλλογικό όραμα και ο Μάκης ήταν ένα τεράστιο κομμάτι του. Του οφείλουμε να συνεχίσουμε να κάνουμε αυτό που αγαπάμε. Η μπάντα συνεχίζει, θα σας ξανασυναντήσουμε όλους.”
Τρία χρόνια αργότερα οι MOTHER OF MILLIONS μας ξανασυναντούν μέσω ενός αφοπλιστικού EP που ακούει στο όνομα Orbit. To Orbit κυκλοφόρησε τον Μάιο από την ViciSolum Productions και πρόκειται για 16 λεπτά γεμάτα μουσική ειλικρίνεια. Το Orbit είναι αφιερωμένο στη μνήμη του Μάκη Τσαμκόσογλου και η ηχογράφησή του περιγράφηκε από το συγκρότημα ως μια αναγκαία θεραπευτική εμπειρία για τη διαδικασία επανεκκίνησης.
Από το πρώτο δευτερόλεπτο του Where Do We Go From Here διακρίνεται η συναισθηματική ειλικρίνεια με την οποία δημιουργήθηκε το Orbit. Το διακριτικό πιάνο, ελαφρώς παραμορφωμένο, και η φωνή του Γιώργου Προκοπίου, ταυτόχρονα ήρεμη και καθηλωτική, θέτουν τον τόνο του υπόλοιπου EP και καταφέρνουν μέσα σε λιγότερο από δύο λεπτά να σε πλημμυρίσουν με άπειρα συναισθήματα. Το Orbit είναι το ομώνυμο και κεντρικό κομμάτι του EP παρέχοντάς μας οικείους MOTHER OF MILLIONS ήχους, με λίγο βαρύτερες κιθάρες και ηλεκτρονικά εφέ, ο άψογος συνδυασμός των οποίων κάνουν το Orbit ένα σκοτεινό και συναισθηματικά καθηλωτικό μουσικό ταξίδι.
Θα ακολουθήσει μία πραγματικά υπέροχη διασκευή του No Light, No Light των FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE. Ένα standalone υπέροχο κομμάτι που οι MOTHER OF MILLIONS καταφέρνουν να κάνουν “δικό τους”, δίνοντάς του νέα μορφή και το προσωπικό τους άρωμα; και για μένα αυτό άλλωστε κάνει μια διασκευή επιτυχημένη. Όποιοι από εσάς ακολουθείτε τις μουσικές των MOTHER OF MILLIONS θα είστε σίγουρα εξοικειωμένοι με το υπέροχο Rome από το Sigma του 2017. Το κλείσιμο του Orbit θα έρθει με την πιανιστική εκδοχή του Rome, με έντονο συναισθητικό βάρος μια εκτέλεση που μπορεί να μην είναι ανώδυνη αλλά είναι σίγουρα λυτρωτική.
Πρέπει να πω πως μου ήταν πολύ δύσκολο να αποτυπώσω σε λόγια όλα αυτά που ένιωσα όταν έβαλα το Orbit να παίξει για πρώτη φορά. Μου είναι πολύ δύσκολο να το κάνω ακόμα και τώρα που το έχω ακούσει τόσες πολλές φορές, γιατί πολύ απλά τα συναισθήματα που μου δημιουργεί το Orbit δεν χωράνε σε λόγια. Μουσικά και ποιοτικά το Orbit είναι σίγουρα πολύ ψηλά και ένας άξιος συνεχιστής όλων αυτών που μας έχουν μέχρι στιγμής προσφέρει οι MOTHER OF MILLIONS; rise and evolve με όλη του την σημασία. Οφείλω όμως να ομολογήσω πως το συγκεκριμένο κείμενο δεν το έγραψα ως αξιολόγηση, το έγραψα κυρίως για να πω ευχαριστώ στους MOTHER OF MILLIONS, για την μουσική ειλικρίνεια, την ανοιχτή ψυχή και για όλα αυτά τα πολύ δυνατά συναισθήματα που μοιράστηκαν μαζί μας.

MOTHER OF MILLIONS is truly one of the most unique and beautiful bands you will ever listen to. They were formed in 2008 and consisted of Makis Tsamkosoglou, George Prokopiou, Kostas Konstantinidis, Panos Priftes and George Boukaouris. Until 2019 they had given us 3 full length albums, Human (2014), Sigma (2017) and Artifacts (2019), with the last two being two of the most beautiful progressive albums I have heard so far. Sadly, in June 2019 Makis Tsamkosoglou passed away suddenly during a concert. In the fall of 2019 and after a farewell concert for Makis, MOTHER OF MILLIONS said: “MOTHER OF MILLIONS is a collective vision and Makis was a huge part of it. We owe it to him to keep doing what we love. The band goes on, we’ll see you all again.”
Three years later, MOTHER OF MILLIONS have reunited with us via a disarming EP that goes by the name of Orbit. Orbit was released in May via ViciSolum Productions and is 16 minutes of musical honesty. Orbit is dedicated to the memory of Makis Tsamkosoglou and its recording was described by the band as a necessary healing experience for the restart process.
From the first second of Where Do We Go From Here, the emotional honesty with which Orbit was created is evident. The subtle piano, slightly distorted, and George Prokopiou’s voice, at once calm and captivating, sets the tone for the rest of the EP and manages to flood you with infinite emotions in less than two minutes. Orbit is the EP’s title and centerpiece track providing us with familiar MOTHER OF MILLIONS sounds, with slightly heavier guitars and electronic effects, the flawless combination of which make Orbit a dark and emotionally engaging musical journey.
This will be followed by a truly wonderful cover of FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE‘s No Light, No Light. A standalone wonderful track that MOTHER OF MILLIONS manage to make “their own”, giving it a new form and their own personal touch; and for me, that’s what makes a cover a success. Now, those of you who follow the music of MOTHER OF MILLIONS will surely be familiar with the wonderful Rome from 2017’s Sigma. Orbit’s closing track will come with the piano version of Rome, with an intense emotionally weighted performance that may not be painless but is certainly redemptive.
I have to say that it was very difficult for me to put into words all that I felt when I first listened to Orbit. It is very difficult for me to do so even now that I have listened to it so many times, because quite simply the emotions that Orbit evokes in me are beyond words. Musically and qualitatively Orbit is definitely very high and a worthy successor to all that MOTHER OF MILLIONS have offered us so far; rise and evolve in all its meaning. But I have to admit that I didn’t write this text as a review, I wrote it mainly to say thank you to MOTHER OF MILLIONS, for their musical honesty, their open soul and for all those raw feelings they shared with us.
