Το 10ο στούντιο άλμπουμ των FIREWIND STAND UNITED κυκλοφόρησε την 1η Μαρτίου από την AFM Records. Είναι το δεύτερο άλμπουμ με τον Herbie Langhans στα φωνητικά και ο Gus το περιγράφει ως ένα είδος concept άλμπουμ καθώς τα θέματα των στίχων περιστρέφονται γύρω από την ανάγκη να μείνουμε ενωμένοι. Συγκεκριμένα . “Δεν θα αποκαλούσα ακριβώς το ‘Stand United‘ ένα κλασικό concept άλμπουμ, αλλά ο τίτλος του άλμπουμ υποδηλώνει το περί τίνος πρόκειται θεματικά”, δήλωσε ο Gus G, ο οποίος έχει επίσης συνεισφέρει με περισσότερες στιχουργικές ιδέες σε αυτό το άλμπουμ από οποιοδήποτε άλλο άλμπουμ στο παρελθόν. “Αυτός ο κόσμος φαίνεται να βγαίνει όλο και περισσότερο εκτός ισορροπίας, με τις περιβαλλοντικές καταστροφές, την πανδημία, τους πολέμους που μαίνονται αυτή τη στιγμή σε όλο τον πλανήτη. Σε τέτοιους καιρούς, είναι πιο σημαντικό από ποτέ για την ανθρωπότητα να σταθεί κοντά η μία στην άλλη αντί να πολεμάει η μία την άλλη. Αυτό είναι το θέμα του ‘Stand United‘!”

Το STAND UNITED περιλαμβάνει εννέα ολοκαίνουργια τραγούδια σε παραγωγή του Dennis Ward (Magnum, Unisonic), καθώς και μια διασκευή του κλασικού pop rock τραγουδιού των 80s ‘Talking in Your Sleep‘, που αρχικά ηχογραφήθηκε από τους Romantics, αλλά του δίνει μια μεταλλική πινελιά στο στυλ των FIREWIND. Μουσικά θα βρείτε πιασάρικα heavy metal riffs με πολλές μελωδίες και μια ανεβαστική και δυναμωτική ατμόσφαιρα. Μου άρεσαν ιδιαίτερα τα τραγούδια Fallen Angel και Chains, τα οποία επίσης βγάζουν ένα είδος μελωδικού ροκ των 80s. Σίγουρα ένα must have για όλους τους οπαδούς του heavy metal.

There aren’t many Greek bands that have been ambassadors of the Greek scene outside the borderlines but FIREWIND and specifically Gus G has been the one Greek who has made his mark around the world. Both with his personal releases but also with the albums of FIREWIND he is spreading riffs and making heads bang for metalheads.

FIREWIND’s 10^th studio album STAND UNITED was released on March 1^st through AFM Records. It is the second album with Herbie Langhans on vocals and Gus describes it as kind of a concept album as the themes of the lyrics revolve around the need to stand united. Specifically . “I wouldn’t exactly call ‘Stand United’ a classic concept album, but the album title indicates what we’re about thematically,” Gus G, who has also contributed with more lyric ideas on this one than any album before, said. “This world seems to be getting more and more out of balance, what with environmental disasters, the pandemic, the wars currently raging all over the globe. In such times, it’s more important than ever for mankind to stand close together instead of fighting each other. That’s what ‘Stand United’ is about!”

STAND UNITED features nine brand new songs produced with Dennis Ward (Magnum, Unisonic), as well as a cover of the 80s pop rock classic ‘Talking in Your Sleep’, originally recorded by The Romantics but giving it a metal twist in the style of FIREWIND. Music wise you’ll find catchy heavy metal riffs with lots of melodies and an uplifting and empowering vibe. I specially liked the songs Fallen Angel and Chains, which also give out an 80s melodic rock kind of vibe. Definitely a must have for all heavy metal fans.

“Είναι δύσκολο να πιστέψει κανείς ότι μια μπάντα όπως οι FIREWIND υπάρχει εδώ και 2 δεκαετίες. Το 2022 είχαμε σχεδιάσει μόνο μια επανέκδοση του ντεμπούτο άλμπουμ μας, αλλά με την πανδημία να υποχωρεί σιγά σιγά, ήμασταν αρκετά τυχεροί ώστε να αρχίσουμε να κάνουμε ξανά συναυλίες στην Αμερική και την Ευρώπη. FIREWIND‘s performance at the Principal Club Theater for the 20th anniversary of their career was captured and is expected to be released on September 1st on blu-ray and double CD from AFM Records, under the title Still Raging: Live At Principal Club Theater.

On this special release, guitarist and driving force behind the band Gus G, commented:

“It’s hard to believe that a band like FIREWIND has been around for 2 decades. In 2022 we had only planned a re-issue of our debut album, but with the pandemic slowly winding down, we were fortunate enough to start doing shows in America and Europe again. Come Fall of 2022 we played 2 headline shows in our homeland, Greece to celebrate our 20th anniversary.
Prior to the Greek shows, my friends from OTSE film crew asked me about filming our hometown gig in Thessaloniki. In a way, the stars aligned, as we returned to the same venue (Principal Club Theater), with the exact same crew that filmed our DVD back in 2008 (Live Premonition anyone?).

Quantum Leap is the fourth solo album by Gus G, the guitarist of FIREWIND, and was released on October 8, 2021. Currently, Gus G is currently on tour with Electric Guitarlands, a joint tour of Gus G, Rowan Robertson, Michael Angelo Batio and Andy Martongelli.

Power metallers Pyramaze will release their 7th full length album on June 23rd via AFM Records.The band from Denmark was introduced to us in 2004, making its presence especially felt in its 3rd album Immortal, where Greek audience’s favorite Matt Barlow was behind the microphone for that single album.

Through Bloodlines, as the new album will be titled, the band today releases its 2nd single/video for the track Fortress.

October last year seen Firewind mastermind and guitar icon, Gus G., release his critically acclaimed, new solo affair entitled Quantum Leap via AFM Records. Following an impressive music career of more than 20 years, nine record releases with Firewind, as well as recording and touring with acts such Mystic Prophecy, Nightrage, Arch Enemy, Dream Evil and Ozzy Osbourne, Quantum Leap is Gus G.‘s fourth, and entirely instrumental solo album, featuring 10 tracks that both showcase the distinctive playing style Gus is known for yet taking fans into new territory.

Quantum Leap came together over the course of the worldwide pandemic that, unfortunately, prevented Firewind’s self-titled album from 2020 from gaining any real momentum. Immobilized by the quarantine measures that kept him at home, Gus began compiling musical ideas to keep himself occupied, which led to the full-on effort to write and record an album during the summer of 2021 “I didn’t make Quantum Leap with the intention of it being the next one in the cycle of solo albums,” Gus admits. “It was more of a case of, ‘What else is there?’ I needed the creative outlet.”

Just a few months since the successful album release via AFM, today the guitarist has shared a brand new music video clip for the song ‘Night Driver’! Gus comments: “Night Driver is probably the most stylistically diverse song of Quantum Leap. I gave it a synth wave twist and it now has that 80s vhs movie vibe!”

Χωρίς να επιδίδεται σε κιθαριστικές «ακρότητες» για να κάνει επίδειξη δύναμης δομεί μελωδίες πάνω στην κιθάρα και ακροβατεί ανάμεσα στην τεχνικότητα, το ρόκ, το metal αλλά κυρίως το συναίσθημα. Όλα τα θέματα είναι έτσι φτιαγμένα που δεν απευθύνονται αποκλειστικά σε μουσικούς, αλλά σε όποιον ακούει μουσική. Για εμένα προσωπικά που με κουράζουν τα ορχηστρικά άλμπουμ, το Quantum Leap ήταν μια ευχάριστη εξαίρεση. Ο τρόπος που δομεί τα θέματα ο Gus είναι αφηγηματικός με τέτοιο τρόπο που εξαλείφει την απουσία των στίχων. Πρωταγωνιστής η μελωδία και η τεχνικότητα υποστηρικτής του αποτελέσματος, και όχι κύριος στόχος. Όταν δεν έχεις την ανάγκη να επιδείξεις την ικανότητά σου, αφήνεις όλο το χώρο στη μουσική να γεμίσει το χώρο και να απλωθεί και αυτό είναι διάχυτο ως συναίσθημα στο Quantum Leap .

Εξάρσεις που δείχνουν τον heavy χαρακτήρα του Gus αλλά και περάσματα όπως το Night Driver που μας θυμίζουν κινηματογραφικά σκηνικά και μας κάνουν να θέλαμε να παρακολουθήσουμε ταινία με soundtrack τον guitar hero. Ο ίδιος ο Gus όπως μας αποκάλυψε στη συνέντευξη που μας παραχώρησε (δείτε την ΕΔΩ) δημιούργησε αυτό το άλμπουμ ως δημιουργική διαφυγή την περίοδο της καραντίνας χωρίς καν να έχει τη διάθεση να περιοδεύσει σε υποστήριξη του αλλά για εμάς που το ακούμε είναι σαν να άνοιξε ένα παραθυράκι και να άφησε να δούμε ακριβώς τι συμβαίνει μέσα στο μυαλό και την ψυχή του. Συνοδεύεται από ένα δεύτερο άλμπουμ με ζωντανές ηχογραφήσεις επιλεγμένων εμφανίσεων του συγκροτήματος.

Απολαυστικό και γεμάτο από ιδέες, εναλλαγές και ποιοτικές κιθαριστικές διαδρομές όπως μόνο ο Gus μπορεί να της δημιουργήσει το Quantum Leap είναι η απολαυστικότερη instrumental κυκλοφορία της χρονιάς. Προσωπικά το προτείνω σε δυνατή ένταση κατά τη διάρκεια μιας αγαπημένης διαδρομής χωρίς κυκλοφοριακή συμφόρηση.

Never before has a solo release by Gus G been more personal than Quantum Leap that is set to be released on October 8^th through AFM Records. Gus chooses for the very first time to go fully instrumental and the result is transcending and enchantingly revealing for the virtuoso.

Noble enough to let aside his master skills on the guitar he builds melodies and balances between technicality, rock and metal but most of all emotion.  All themes are written in a way that they reach beyond musicians to whomever listens to music. I personally get extremely tired of instrumental albums and Quantum Leap is a pleasant exception. The way Gus structures the music, sounds as if he is narrating a story in a way that illuminates the absence of lyrics. The star of the album is melody and skill is a firm supporter of the result but not the main goal. When there’s no need to prove your quality as a guitarist, you let space overflow with music and that is the overall feeling throughout Quantum Leap.

There are outbursts showcasing Gus’s heavy background but also moments like Night Driver which bring to mind cinematic pictures and make us want to watch a film with the guitar hero’s soundtrack. Gus himself revealed in the interview he gave Metalradio.gr (interview in Greek HERE) that this album was his creative release during the quarantine of covid-19 era and that he didn’t plan on touring in support of it but for us who listen to it, sounds like he cracked the window to his mind and soul.

Luscious in ideas, diversity and quality guitar paths, in the way only Gus knows how to lead us Quantum Leap is the most indulging instrumental release of the year. Personally, I suggest that you play it loud during your favorite ride on a road with no traffic.

„New Found Power“ – the title of their new single (and music video) perfectly describes the current spirit of Greek power metal masters FIREWIND. The band’s latest incarnation, since 2019, of course led by former Ozzy Osbourne axeman Gus G. is fronted by singer Herbie Langhans (Avantasia), a powerhouse vocalist par excellence. Langhans‘ addition to the group’s ranks gave a new kind of energy to FIREWIND and after the release of the band’s latest (self-titled) album in May 2020, now the new single „New Found Power“ continues the FIREWIND legacy with a heavy, uplifting power metal track of highest quality.

“New Found Power” will also be part of the AFM Records label compilation “25 Years Metal Addiction”, which includes 30 rare or previously unreleased tracks and comes as 2CD Digipak (out October 29).

As he explained in a video a few days ago, the title of the album is inspired by the fact that in this release he steps up and takes the risk of releasing a fully instrumental album as covid kept him from flying and collaborating with other artists but couldn’t put his inspiration on lock down. This is the third single after Exosphere and Fierce. Quantum Leap will be out October 8th on AFM Records.

Στο βίντεο ο Gus εξηγεί οτι ο τίτλος αντιπροσωπεύει το ρίσκο του να κυκλοφορήσει τον πρώτο δίσκο του χωρίς τη συμμετοχή τραγουδιστών. Θα είναι η πρώτη του προσωπική κυκλοφορία μόνο με ορχηστρικές κιθαριστικές συνθέσεις, μιας και ενώ είχε το χρόνο λόγω lock down να είναι δημιουργικός δεν μπορούσε να ταξιδέψει και να συνεργαστεί με άλλους μουσικούς. Όπως εξηγεί ο ίδιος «Σκέφτηκα το concept ενός μοναχικού Rock star που βρίσκει την αληθινή αγάπη στα μάτια της “Necromantissa” –  ένα κορίτσι που πριν κρατούσε όμηρο στο υπόγειό του. Η μουσική τελικά τους ενώνει και φτιάχνουν μια Metal band. Εφιάλτης ή πραγματικότητα;

Διασκεδάσαμε πάρα πολύ στα γυρίσματα με το πλήρες μακιγιάζ μας. Αγαπώ κάποια black metal & shock rock  αισθητικά στοιχεία και ήθελα να δοκιμάσω κάτι διαφορετικό, αντί για το κλασσικό performance video. Και φυσικά ήθελα και ένα βίντεο με τις γάτες μου! Πολλά ευχαριστώ στον Παναγιώτη Κουντουρά για την εξαιρετική του σκηνοθεσία, στη σύντροφό μου και στις γάτες μας Marquise και Leon.»

Second video single for Gus G entitled Fierce se to be included in his upcoming album “Quantum Leap”, which will be released on October 8^th through AFM Records.

As Gus himself describes: “I came up with the concept of a lonely Rock star who eventually finds true love in the eyes of “Necromantissa” –  a girl he previously kept hostage in his dungeon. Music finally unites them and they live happily ever after and even form a Metal band. Nightmare or reality??

We had tons of fun shooting this, getting in full makeup. I love certain black metal & shock rock  aesthetics & wanted to try something different, instead of doing yet another performance video. And I also wanted to make a video with my cats too.

Όπως αναφέρει η μπάντα στην επίσημη δήλωσή της: “ Hello fans, φίλοι και συνεργάτες, πρώτα απ’ όλα πρέπει να πούμε οτι είμαστε πολύ μπερδεμένοι με την επίσημη δήλωση του Urban ότι εγκαταλείπει τους SERIOUS BLACK. Πραγματικά εκπλαγήκαμε που μάθαμε για το σχόλιό του μέσω περιοδικών και του crew μας – δεν είχε γίνει καμία συζήτηση πιο πριν. Σεβόμαστε την απόφασή του!

Είναι αλήθεια ότι η παραγωγή του «226» αλλά και η περιοδεία έδειξαν τις διαφορές ανάμεσα στο πως θέλουμε την μπάντα και την άποψή του. Αλλά έτσι κι αλλιώς δεν υπάρχει λόγος να τσακωνόμαστε για αυτό με τον Urban. Είναι ένας εκπληκτικός τραγουδιστής και μουσικός και θέλουμε να τον ευχαριστήσουμε για τα περισσότερα από 100 σόου παγκοσμίως, τα υπέροχα τραγούδια και τη δουλειά του σε 4 καταπληκτικούς δίσκους! Πραγματικά του ευχόμαστε τα καλύτερα για το μέλλον!

ΚΑΙ ΤΩΡΑ τα ΚΑΛΑ ΝΕΑ της ημέρας:

Πρώτο: Είχαμε μια κουβέντα με την δισκογραφική μας “AFM Records“ πριν από λίγο. Έχουμε την πλήρη στήριξή τους για να τελειώσουμε το άλμπουμ πάνω στο οποίο δουλεύουμε … και πρέπει να τους ευχαριστήσουμε για την εμπιστοσύνη τους!

Δεύτερο: Ένας παλιός καλός μας φίλος προσφέρθηκε να βοηθήσει για να ολοκληρώσουμε το άλμπουμ. Σε αυτό το σημείο πρέπει να ευχαριστήσουμε τον Bob Katsionis, είναι πραγματικά πολύ καλό να τον έχουμε με το μέρος μας! Ένα πράγμα μπορούμε να υποσχεθούμε… θα σας παρουσιάσουμε ένα άλμπουμ που θα σκοτώνει με φοβερά νέα τραγούδια, στα καλύτερά τους διαμορφωμένα από ομαδική δουλειά! Extreme times call for extreme measures in the Serious Black band as their singer left the band!

As the official statement of the band says: “ Hello fans, friends and partners, first of all we have to say that we are very confused about Urban‘s statement that he is leaving SERIOUS BLACK. We were really surprised to hear about his comment via magazines and our crew – there was no conversation before.

We respect his decision!

It is true, that the production of „Suite 226“and also the tour showed the differences between how we want this band to be and his view. Anyway, there is no reason for us to fight here with Urban. He is an outstanding great singer and musician and we want to thank him for more than 100 concerts worldwide, great songs and his work on 4 amazing records! We truly wish him all the best for his future!

AND NOW the GOOD NEWS of the day:

First: We had a talk with our label „AFM Records“ a few minutes ago. We have their full support to finish this record we are working on … we have to thank them a lot for their given trust!

Όπως ανακοίνωσε το νέο single του προσωπικού του σχήματος θα κυκλοφορήσει την 1η Απριλίου και μπορείτε να κάνετε presave ΕΔΩ! Θυμίζουμε ότι ο καταξιωμένος κιθαρίστας είχε κυκλοφορήσει το 2018 το άλμπουμ Fearless από την AFM Records αποσπώντας πολύ καλές κριτικές.

Το εντυπωσιακό δε για το Eternal Nocturnal είναι ότι συνοδεύεται από βίντεο κλιπ με την υπογραφή του ταλαντούχου Patric Ullaeus. Γραμμένο και ηχογραφημένο κατά τη διάρκεια της πανδημίας το νέο άλμπουμ της μπάντας “Escape Of The Phoenix“ ετοιμάστηκε σύμφωνα με το πρόγραμμα που είχε ήδη από το 2019. Ο Englund και ο drummer Jonas Ekdahl ξεκίνησαν τη σύνθεση των τραγουδιών τον Ιανουάριο δημιουργώντας τη βάση για το νέο άλμπουμ.

Σε αντίθεση με τη συνηθισμένη δημιουργική διαδικασία που διακόπτεται από περιοδείες και μεμονομένες συναυλίες αυτή τη φορά το lockdown έδωσε στην μπάντα τον πολύτιμο χρόνο να δουλέψει απερίσπαστη, Το αποτέλεσμα είναι 11 τραγούδια που ενσωματώνουν όλα όσα περιμένουν οι οπαδοί του συγκροτήματος. Όπως αναφέρουν ο Englund & ο παραγωγός Jacob Hansen χαρακτηριστικά «μια πιο metal version του “The Atlantic”, με τραγούδια που είναι πιο άμεσα». Το νέο άλμπουμ κυκλοφορεί 26 Φεβρουαρίου 2021 από την AFM Records.

Μόλις λίγες μέρες μετά την κυκλοφορία του εξαιρετικού Firewind το συγκρότημα του Gus G παρουσιάζει ένα ακόμη βίντεο αυτή τη φορά Lyric.

Πρόκειται για το Break Away και σχετικά με αυτό σχολιάζει ο Gus: Αυτό το τραγούδι έχει ένα πολύ έντονο 80’s vibe. Αρχικά προοριζόταν να είναι instrumental, για αυτό και είναι ένα αρκετά “busy” σε κιθαριστικά μέρη. Οι στίχοι του έχουν να κάνουν με το PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder μετατραυματικό στρες) από το οποίο υποφέρουν συχνά οι στρατιώτες. Νιώθουμε ότι το “Break Away” είναι ένα από τα ισχυρά tracks του album και έχει σίγουρα μια θέση στη live Setlist όταν επανεκκινήσουν οι περιοδείες.“

Το Firewind κυκλοφόρησε από την AFM records στις 15 Μαΐου και σχετικά με αυτό μιλήσαμε με τον Gus G στην παρακάτω συνέντευξη.

Ένα άλμπουμ που όπως μας είπε ο Gus G στη συνέντευξή του που μπορείτε να ακούσετε παρακάτω, έχει τον ήχο που  θα είχε το συγκρότημα αν το έφτιαχνε από την αρχή. Με ένα νέο τραγουδιστή υψηλών αποδόσεων αλλά και χωρίς τα πλήκτρα του Bob (Katsionis). Αυτό το άλμπουμ είναι νέο αλλά και ταυτόχρονα μέσα στον πυρήνα του ήχου της μπάντας. Σα να αποδίδει φόρο τιμής σε όλες τις εποχές της μπάντας και ταυτόχρονα να τις εμπλουτίζει με όλα τα στοιχεία που έχουν οι Firewind σήμερα.

Δεν θα μπούμε καθόλου σε λεπτομέρειες που αφορούν την παραγωγή του άλμπουμ γιατί είναι όλα στην συνέντευξη που μας παραχώρησε ο Gus G και μπορείτε να τα ακούσετε παρακάτω. Θα μπούμε στο ψητό της ακρόασης του άλμπουμ…

Με επική εισαγωγή το Welcome To The Empire που νομίζω δίνει τον τόνο για τη νέα εποχή. Μια εποχή με γεμάτα καλοπαιγμένα riff μελωδίες heavymetalικές με τα πόδια τους στο κλασσικό παρελθόν και τα κλαδιά τους να «γαργαλούν» το μοντέρνο ήχο και να αγκαλιάζουν την σύγχρονη παραγωγή. Με στιγμές όπως το  Orbitual Sunrise που βγάζει ένα epic vibe καλπασμού που σχεδόν θυμίζει Maiden και τη φωνή του Herbie Langhans να ερμηνεύει με τον απόλυτο λυρισμό, το Perfect Strangers που Priestίζει, το Overdive που έχει την ατμόσφαιρα του Headless Cross οι Firewind εκσυγχρονίζουν τις κλασσικές επιρροές τους και τις κάνουν κοινωνούς του σήμερα. Αγαπημένη στιγμή του άλμπουμ το All My Life. Μου θύμισε τη Riotική νοσταλγία (βλέπε Sons Of Society – Twist Of Fate) με ένα αέρα του σήμερα και τον Gus να “λούζει” με κιθαρίστικές μελωδίες το τελικό αποτέλεσμα κάνοντας το μοναδικό. Ενώ μια ειδική θέση στον player ειδικά όταν οδηγείς σε ανοιχτή λεωφόρο και έχει μπροστά σου τα χιλιόμετρα να ξεδιπλώνονται πρέπει να έχει το Space Cowboy.

Το άλμπουμ που έκανε τον Gus να αναρωτηθεί αν θέλει να τα παρατήσει (άκου τη συνέντευξη που μας το λέει) εμένα μου ακούστηκε σαν το τραγούδι που επέλεξαν για  να μας δώσουν μια πρώτη γεύση… Rising Fire. Έτσι όπως ακούγονται το 2020 οι Firewind έχουν την «δίψα» της νέας μπάντας με την «εμπειρία» της παλιάς και αυτό για μένα είναι killer συνδυασμός. Welcome To Firewind’s Empire!
