Τρίτη 16 Ιανουαρίου 2024 – Οι SAXON κυκλοφορούν το video για το “There’s something in Roswell”, το δεύτερο single από το 24ο στούντιο άλμπουμ του γκρουπ, “Hell, fire and damnation”, που βγαίνει αυτή την εβδομάδα από τη Silver Lining Music.

Το “Hell, Fire And Damnation” βρίσκει το συγκρότημα να διερευνά όλους τους τομείς της ιστορίας και του μυστηρίου ανάμεσα σε δέκα από τα πιο δυναμικά τραγούδια τους και το “There’s Something In Roswell” είναι ένας πραγματικός θησαυρός ανάμεσα στα κοσμήματα, με το τεράστιο groove που αξίζει παιχτεί σε αρένες. Το κομμάτι αφορά τα αινιγματικά γεγονότα γύρω από τη συντριβή του 1947 ενός υποτιθέμενου μετεωρολογικού μπαλονιού του Στρατού στο Roswell, στο  Νέο Μεξικό, που αναφέρεται ως «Το περιστατικό του Roswell».

Το 2024, υπόσχεται να είναι μία σπουδαία χρονιά για τους SAXON, με την ευρωπαϊκή περιοδεία τους παρέα με τους JUDAS PRIEST και τους URIAH HEEP, η οποία ξεκινά από τη Μ. Βρετανία το Μάρτιο, την κυκλοφορία του “Hell, Fire And Damnation”, αλλά και την αμερικάνικη co-headline περιοδεία τους με τους URIAH HEEP, με τίτλο “Hell, fire & chaos – The best of British Rock & Metal”.

«Κλείνοντας αυτές τις συναυλίες το Μάρτιο του 2024 με τους JUDAS PRIEST και τους URIAH HEEP, σήμαινε ότι θα είχε μεγαλύτερο νόημα να πιεζόμασταν να κυκλοφορήσουμε το δίσκο γρηγορότερα» λέει ο Biff, «οπότε μπορεί να προχωρήσαμε κάπως βιαστικά για να το βγάλουμε. Just a few hours are left until the release of the new album of the heavy metal geriatrics SAXON and the band has published another single in the form of a video clip. The video is for There’s Something In Roswell, which as you may well have guessed, deals with the famous Roswell area of the United States and the theories surrounding it about the presence of extraterrestrial life. Below is the press release issued by the band:

Tuesday 16 January 2024 – SAXON release the video for “There’s something in Roswell“, the second single from the group’s 24th studio album, “Hell, fire and damnation“, out this week on Silver Lining Music.

“Hell, Fire And Damnation” finds the band exploring all areas of history and mystery amongst ten of their most powerful songs and “There’s Something In Roswell” is a real treasure amongst the gems, with a huge groove worth playing in arenas. The track is about the puzzling events surrounding the 1947 crash of a supposed Army weather balloon in Roswell, New Mexico, referred to as “The Roswell Incident”.

“It’s such a great story. It’s been around for many years and it’s exactly what the song says: there has to be something in Roswell because there’s too much talk about it still,” explains singer and founding member Biff Byford. “I also like the melody, I think it goes back to SAXON of the 80s musically, a great bridge between the classic era of ‘Dallas 1 PM‘ and ‘Saxon 2023′.

“Hell, Fire And Damnation” is an excellent piece of British classic Heavy Metal. Biff delivers his “richest” vocals in years, Nigel Glockler and Nibbs Carter on drums and bass respectively keep the pace with tremendous power, and Doug Scarratt and Brian Tatler‘s guitars are fresh and fiery, complementing each other perfectly, with an overall energy and fury that will have fans drooling. Musically, SAXON bring it all to the table. There’s a tribute to true heavy metal in the hyper-fast, denim & leather “Fire And Steel“, a wonderful nod to the birth of NWOBHM in the mid-tempo “Pirates Of The Airwaves” and the frantic assault of the title track, “Hell, Fire And Damnation“.

“Hell, Fire And Damnation” was produced by Andy Sneap (JUDAS PRIEST, EXODUS, ACCEPT and guitarist of PRIEST) together with Biff Byford, while Sneap himself has undertaken the mixing and mastering with the album walking the fine line between the confident and modern power and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, which SAXON was one of its creators.

2024 promises to be a great year for SAXON, with their European tour alongside JUDAS PRIEST and URIAH HEEP, which starts in the UK in March, the release of “Hell, Fire And Damnation“, and their American co-headline tour with URIAH HEEP, entitled “Hell, fire & chaos – The best of British Rock & Metal“.

“Booking those shows in March 2024 with JUDAS PRIEST and URIAH HEEP meant that it would have made more sense to push to release the record sooner,” says Biff, “so we may have moved a bit hastily to get it out. It was a risk, but I think we did well.”

Yes, it’s safe to say they did indeed do well!

Και μιλώντας για σταθερές, ακριβώς 2 χρόνια μετά την τελευταία τους δουλειά, οι SAXON επιστρέφουν με τον 24ο full length δίσκος τους ο οποίος φέρει τον τίτλο Hell, Fire and Damnation. Ως ημερομηνία κυκλοφορίας έχει οριστεί η 19η Ιανουαρίου και ως προπομπό του album, το συγκρότημα δημοσίευσε το πρώτο single/video clip για το ομότιτλο κομμάτι του δίσκου.

Αξίζει να σημειωθεί πως το Hell, Fire and Damnation αποτελεί και τον πρώτο δίσκο του συγκροτήματος χωρίς τον ιδρυτικό κιθαρίστα της μπάντας Paul Quinn,τουλάχιστον ως προς τις ζωντανές εμφανίσεις. Στο video επίσης του single κάνει την εμφάνιση του και ο Brian Tatler των DIAMOND HEAD, ο οποίος και έχει αντικαταστήσει τον Quinn.

Σχετικά με την νέα τους δουλειά, ο Biff Byford δήλωσε τα εξής:

“Έχω αυτό το ρητό στο μυαλό μου από τότε που ήμουν μικρό παιδί, επειδή ο πατέρας μου συνήθιζε να το λέει όταν ήταν αναστατωμένος. Συνήθιζε να λέει, “Κόλαση, φωτιά και καταδίκη, τι κάνεις τώρα;” όταν “του χάλαγα το λάχανο” ή σκάλιζα πράγματα στο τραπέζι της κουζίνας. Ήταν ένα πολύ “Γιόρκσαϊρικο” ρητό τότε.

Υπάρχει τόση πολλή μουσική εκεί έξω για την κόλαση, το διάβολο και τον αποκρυφισμό που σκέφτηκα ότι ήταν καιρός να γράψει κάποιος ένα κομμάτι για τη μάχη μεταξύ του καλού και του κακού! Δεν μπορείς να τραγουδήσεις για τον διάβολο χωρίς να τραγουδήσεις και για τον καλό, και το τραγούδι ουσιαστικά λέει ‘κάνε την επιλογή σου’. Όλοι πρέπει να κάνουμε την επιλογή, είμαστε κακοί ή είμαστε καλοί; Το τραγούδι μιλάει γι’ αυτή τη μάχη”.

Το 2024 αναμένεται μια φοβερή χρονιά δισκογραφικά για τους γερόλυκους του heavy metal. Ανυπομονούμε.

They have one of the biggest catalogs of releases and recordings in general and are an absolute constant in the field of what we call classic heavy metal.

And speaking of constants, exactly 2 years after their last work, SAXON return with their 24th full length album which is titled Hell, Fire and Damnation. The release date is set for January 19th and as a precursor to the album, the band has released the first single/video clip for the title track of the album.

It is worth noting that Hell, Fire and Damnation is also the band’s first album without founding guitarist Paul Quinn, at least as far as live performances are concerned. The video of the single also features DIAMOND HEAD‘s Brian Tatler, who has replaced Quinn.

About their new work, Biff Byford said the following:

“I’ve had that saying in my head since I was a small boy because my dad used to say it when he was upset. He used to say, ‘Hell, fire, and damnation, what’s tha’ been doing now?!’ when I was ‘messing up his cabbage patch’ or carving things into the kitchen table. It was a very ‘Yorkshire’ saying back in the day.

There’s so much music out there about hell and the devil and the occult that I just thought it’s about time somebody wrote one about the battle just between good and evil!. You can’t sing about the devil without singing about the good guy either, and the song basically says ‘make your choice’. We all have to make the choice, are we evil or are we good? The song’s about that fight”.

2024 is expected to be a great year for the old guard of heavy metal. We can’t wait.
