Ήρθε η ώρα για την κυκλοφορία της χρονιάς από μια μπάντα που ηγείται στον χώρο εδώ και τρεις δεκαετίες και το αποτέλεσμα πραγματικά εκπλήσσει! “The nightmare of being” τιτλοφορείται η νέα δισκογραφική δουλειά των At The Gates που κυκλοφορεί 2 Ιουλίου από τη Century Media Records και δεν αφήνει περιθώρια αμφισβήτησης για το πόσο η μουσική σκηνή στην Σουηδία έχει εξελιχθεί με τα χρόνια και για το πόσο μεγάλο είναι το εύρος της προσφοράς στην metal μουσική βιομηχανία από μπάντες του είδους.

Τα σχόλια περισσεύουν! Το άλμπουμ από την αρχή έως το τέλος, ικανοποιεί με ένα μοναδικό τρόπο τις μουσικές προσδοκίες ακόμα και του πιο απαιτητικού οπαδού! Οι κιθάρες είναι πραγματικά απίστευτες, γεμίζουν από όγκο τις εκπληκτικές συνθέσεις των Martin Larsson & Jonas Stålhammar, που σε συνδυασμό με την ηγετική παρουσία του Adrian Erlandsson στα τύμπανα (The Haunted, Cradle of Filth, Paradise Lost, Terror κτλ) απογειώνουν κάθε σύνθεση. Το άλμπουμ έχει μια μοναδική πολυδιάστατη ταυτότητα με επιρροές από Progressive, Punk και πολλά Jazz στοιχεία, τα οποία και έχει αποδώσει η μπάντα με τον δικό της μοναδικό τρόπο και κρατάνε αμείωτο το ενδιαφέρον έως το τέλος. Πρόκειται για ένα πρωτότυπο concept άλμπουμ γραμμένο πάνω στις θεωρίες της απαισιόδοξης φιλοσοφίας. Δεν είναι ο πειραματισμός απλά που κάνει την διαφορά στο άλμπουμ! Είναι συνολικά η μουσική παιδεία της μπάντας που με έναν μοναδικό τρόπο ήρθε να πάρει από το χέρι κάθε μπάντα, και να διδάξει πως εξελίσσεται και ανεβαίνει σε επίπεδο η μουσική σκηνή! Δημιούργησαν ένα άλμπουμ το οποίο τολμώ να πω, πως είναι χρόνια μπροστά από τα σημερινά δεδομένα!

Το μόνο σίγουρο είναι πως το άλμπουμ θέλει ανοιχτό μυαλό και αυτιά για να αντιληφθεί ο ακροατής το μεγαλείο του! Σημεία που θυμίζουν έντονα, Progressive μεγαθήρια όπως οι Rush & Dream Theatre, Tool αλλά και riff από Iron Maiden σε μερικά σημεία, ανεβάζουν τον πήχη και περνάνε το είδος σε ένα ψηλότερο level που ειλικρινά θα εκτιμηθεί αρκετά στην πορεία.

Οι πρωτοπόροι του Σουηδικού Death Metal ήχου, βάζουν την σφραγίδα τους και προκαλούν με ένα μεγαλειώδες άλμπουμ! Όσοι αντέχετε τις προκλήσεις τέτοιου είδους….. προσέλθετε. Από την πλευρά μου, ένα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ στους At The Gates για το μεγαλείο που δημιούργησαν!

It is rather comforting when you come across some “values” in life that sustain their quality! And the pleasure becomes greater, when we meet such standards in music or bands, who stay true to their roots and depth! Having passed over the first half of 2021, the second half kicks in with a release which I strongly believe will become a milestone in the metal community!

The time is now, for the release of the year from the band who leads in the genre for over three decades and the result is mind-blowing! “The nightmare of being” is the new release by At The Gates, out July 2^nd on Century Media Records and it’s beyond any doubt that music in Sweden has advanced beyond its past and the legacy of these pioneers in metal music and the music industry in general, is vast.

No comments are enough! Beginning to end, this album exceeds even the most demanding fan’s requirements! Guitars are amazing, flooding the amazing songs of Martin Larsson & Jonas Stålhammar, which combined with the immaculate skill of Adrian Erlandsson on the drums (The Haunted, Cradle of Filth, Paradise Lost, Terror etc) send every song over the top. The album has a unique multidimensional identity with influences of Progressive, Punk and Jazz elements, which the band has incorporated in its sound in a masterful way, in order to keep you on your toes, throughout the album.  The nightmare of being is an original concept album based on philosophical theories of pessimism. It’s not only experimenting that makes this album different from the rest! It’s the entire musical background of the band, who paves the way for every band by educating them on how to push boundaries, evolve and elevate the entire genre! At The Gates have created and album which I dare to say is way ahead of its time!

One thing is for certain, this album requires an open mind and listening without taboos so that you can fully grasp its magnificence. Parts that are heavily influenced by Progressive masterminds such as Rush,  Dream Theatre and Tool but also riffs that remind Iron Maiden, raise the bar and elevate the genre and is yet to be appreciated in the future.

The Pioneers of Swedish Death Metal, make their mark and push boundaries with an album that’s magnificent! If you feel you can take the challenge… press play! From my personal point of view, an honest thank you to At The Gates for the grandiose album they created!

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES are now launching the first single off their upcoming album “The Nightmare Of Being” (Out July 2nd, 2021 via Century Media Records) to enhance today’s album pre-order start.

Tomas Lindberg Redant commented about “Spectre of Extinction”, a track which features a guest lead-guitar appearance by King Diamond guitarist Andy La Rocque, and its video clip, which was directed by Patric Ullaeus / www.rEvolver.se (Arch Enemy, In Flames, Dimmu Borgir, etc.), as follows: 

“It is always very hard to choose which song to release to the public first, especially with this album having so many layers and textures. We did feel, however, that this, the opening track of the record, represented the overall feel of the album. It has the musical depths that you would expect from an AT THE GATES track, and still carries that intensity and urgency that we have always tried to get across with our music. 

For the video, it was wonderful to be able to continue the work with the mighty Patric Ullaeus, as he understands our vision with the music and is willing to go all the way to portray the song’s inner dimensions. I think he did that excellently with this one and I’m very proud of the result. The lyrics deal with humanity’s will and how that clashes with our consciousness, and our knowledge of our mortality. Το νέο άλμπουμ των AT THE GATES κυκλοφορεί 2 Ιουλίου 2021 από την Century Media Records. Οι ηχογραφήσεις του “The Nightmare Of Being” έγιναν σε διάφορα studios της Σουηδίας – Drums στα Studio Gröndal με τον Jens Bogren, κιθάρες και μπάσο με τον Andy La Rocque στα Sonic Train Studio και τα φωνητικά στα Welfare Sounds με τον Per Stålberg. Μίξη και master έγινε στα Fascination Street Studios (Amon Amarth, Opeth, Kreator, etc.) από τον Jens Bogren, που έχει ξανασυνεργαστεί με τη μπάντα στο άλμπουμ του 2014  “At War With Reality”. Το οπτικό μέρος του άλμπουμ έχει επιμεληθεί η Eva Nahon.

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES have recently completed the recordings and preparations for their upcoming new studio album and can now reveal that it will be entitled “The Nightmare Of Being” and that it will be released on July 2nd, 2021 via Century Media Records.

While main parts for “The Nightmare Of Being” were recorded in several different Swedish studios – Drums at Studio Gröndal with Jens Bogren, guitars and bass with Andy La Rocque at Sonic Train Studio and vocals at Welfare Sounds with Per Stålberg –, the album was mixed and mastered at Fascination Street Studios (Amon Amarth, Opeth, Kreator, etc.) by Jens Bogren, who has previously worked with AT THE GATES on their “At War With Reality” comeback album in 2014. The album’s visual concept (The frontcover is to be seen above!) was developed by artist Eva Nahon.

AT THE GATES vocalist Tomas Lindberg Redant checked in with the following comment about the album’s concept: “The overall theme deals with the topic of pessimism, and I have been diving deep down in pessimistic philosophers. Trying to understand this way of looking at the world. It is not a negative album, more a gateway into new ideas for me personally, trying out different perspectives. You could call the album an introduction to pessimism as a concept, I guess. It is a very dark album, but not negative…”

And musically, while “The Nightmare Of Being” unveils a newly liberated and adventurous AT THE GATES via some of the bravest and most mesmerising material they have ever written, Lindberg Redant adds: “It still sounds like AT THE GATES, 100 percent. It is just more of everything….”
