Η τραγικότητα και η δραματικότητα στις συνθέσεις του Children of Eve σε συνδυασμό με τις συγκλονιστικές ερμηνείες του Ευθύμη Καραδήμα συνθέτουν ένα μουσικό τοπίο οργής, άρνησης και αντίστασης απέναντι σε οτιδήποτε παθητικό και δόλιο. Δίχως υπερβολή, ακούγοντας το άλμπουμ, έπιασα πολλές φορές τον εαυτό μου να νιώθει σαν να βρίσκεται μέσα σε συναυλιακή αρένα και όχι σε σπίτι. Στα drums του Φώτη Benardo χτυπάει η καρδιά των NIGHTFALL με το δεινό τους σφυροκόπημα και υπό την σκέπη της απαράμιλλα επικοδραματικής ερμηνείας του Ευθύμη Καραδήμα οδηγούν την κιθάρα του Κώστα Kυριακόπουλου και το μπάσο της Βασιλικής Μπιζά σε ένα ηχητικό παραλήρημα, που αλώνει κάθε άβατο.

Πριν ξεκινήσετε να ακούτε το άλμπουμ δυναμώστε πολύ την ένταση του ήχου. Η εισαγωγή- μονόλογος του εναρκτήριου I Hate, που μοιάζει να έχει ξεπηδήσει μέσα από αρχαία ελληνική τραγωδία, πρέπει να ακουστεί δυνατά. Το συναίσθημα που γεννάται είναι διαπεραστικό και φέρνει ρίγη. Ο δραματικός αυτός γυναικείος μονόλογος της Πηνελόπης Αναστασοπούλου απoτελείται από πιθανόν τέσσερις προτάσεις, που είναι στην ουσία οι τίτλοι των τραγουδιών με τη σειρά που εμφανίζονται στο άλμπουμ. ”I hate The Cannibal Lurking Inside my head. Seeking revenge For the expelled ones. The traders of anathema. With outlandish desire to disobey The makhaira of the deceiver Christian svengali.”  Στα παραπάνω λόγια συνοψίζεται με απόλυτη ακρίβεια και λεπτομέρεια το νόημα ολόκληρου του άλμπουμ. Καί ὁ νοῶν νοήτω.

Το άλμπουμ κυκλοφόρησε στις 2 Μαΐου του 2025 από τη Season of Mist και ηχογραφήθηκε στην Αθήνα στα Devasoundz Studios. Την παραγωγή ανέλαβαν ο Ευθύμης Καραδήμας και ο Φώτης Benardo με τη βοήθεια του κιθαρίστα των InnerWish, Θύμιου Κρίκου. Το Mixing & Mastering έγινε από τον Jacob Hansen στα Hansen Studios, στο Ribe, στη Δανία. Ο πίνακας ζωγραφικής, που κοσμεί το εξώφυλλο του άλμπουμ και αντικατοπτρίζει με πολύ παραστατικό τρόπο τον δραματικό του τόνο, είναι δημιούργημα του φημισμένου Eliran Kantor γνωστού από τα έργα του σε εξώφυλλα των Testament, Soulfly, Kreator, My Dying Bride, Helloween και άλλων metal συγκροτημάτων.

Οι NIGHTFALL συνεχίζουν και σε αυτό το άλμπουμ τους να καταπιάνονται με πολύ ευαίσθητα και νευραλγικά πεδία της ανθρώπινης ύπαρξης και κοινωνίας. Ένα από αυτά τα πεδία είναι και η θρησκευτική πίστη. Και εάν το εντυπωσιακό At Night We Prey με την εκτενή αναφορά του στον αόρατο και τόσο ύπουλο εχθρό της ψυχικής διαταραχής και της κατάθλιψης έφερε στο δικό μου μυαλό τη φράση του J.R.R. Tolkien: “Let him not vow to walk in the dark, who has not seen the nightfall.”, το Children of Eve φέρνει στη δική μου σκέψη την επιγραφή που είναι χαραγμένη στα Λατινικά στον τάφο του Ελβετού ψυχίατρου Karl Jung: “VOCATUS ATQUE NON VOCATUS DEUS ADERIT”. Γιατί στην πρόσφατη συνέντευξη που έδωσαν οι NIGHTFALL στο Metal Radio και την Έλενα Μιχαηλίδου ξεκαθάρισαν ότι δεν αντιτίθενται στην ανάγκη του ατόμου να πιστεύει, να φιλοσοφεί και να αναζητά. Αντιτίθενται στην εκμετάλλευση αυτής της ανάγκης από οργανωμένα θρησκευτικά συστήματα για εξυπηρέτηση αλλότριων σκοπών. Επιπλέον αντιτίθενται  στη φίμωση της καλλιτεχνικής ελευθερίας στο βωμό της θρησκευτικής ορθότητας και σε σειρά άλλων ανάλογων ζητημάτων. Αξίζει νομίζω εδώ να αναφέρουμε ότι έχουμε την τύχη να ζούμε σε εκείνο το κομμάτι του πλανήτη που μπορούν να ακούγονται ανοιχτά φωνές σαν αυτή των NIGHTFALL. Γιατί στον ελεύθερο κόσμο η τέχνη μπορεί και πρέπει να εκφράζεται ελεύθερα.

I won’t hide from you that when I saw, five years ago on the Season of Mist YouTube page, the impressive live reissue of Ishtar from the distant Athenian Echoes with the lineup of the then reunited NIGHTFALL, I felt, like maybe many of you, that something very big had been reborn. Fotis Benardo’s collaboration with NIGHTFALL, which began with 2021’s impressive At Night We Prey, was to be the beginning of a great new era for the already established band. And here comes now Children of Eve not only to confirm the above reflection but to shape a musical reality that is hard to find its equal. I am one of those who firmly believe that the right chemistry between people is responsible for all kinds of collective achievements. And the chemistry in Children of Eve’s NIGHTFALL unleashes their musical talent, inspiration and creativity to the fullest extent.

The tragedy and drama in Children of Eve’s compositions combined with the shocking performances of Efthimis Karadimas compose a musical landscape of rage, denial and resistance against anything passive and deceitful. Without exaggeration, listening to the album, I found myself many times feeling as if I was in a concert arena and not at home. The heart of NIGHTFALL beats in the drums of Fotis Benardo’s drum kit with their dreadful pounding and under the cover of Efthimis Karadimas’ unparalleled epic dramatic interpretation they lead Kostas Kyriakopoulos‘ guitar and Vasiliki Biza’s bass in a sonic delirium, which smears every sanctuary.

The album was released on May 2, 2025 under Season of Mist and was recorded in Athens at Devasoundz Studios, produced by Efthimis Karadimas and Fotis Benardo with the help of InnerWish guitarist Thymios Krikos. Mixing & Mastering was done by Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios, Ribe, Denmark. The painting, which adorns the album cover and reflects its dramatic tone in a very descriptive way, is the creation of the renowned Eliran Kantor known for his work on the covers of Testament, Soulfly, Kreator, My Dying Bride, Helloween and other metal bands.

NIGHTFALL continues in this album to deal with very sensitive and nerve-wracking fields of human existence and society. One of these fields is religious faith. And if the impressive At Night We Prey with its extensive reference to the invisible and so insidious enemy of mental disorder and depression brought to my mind the phrase of J.R.R. Tolkien: “Let him not vow to walk in the dark, who has not seen the nightfall.” Because in the recent interview that NIGHTFALL gave to MetalRadio and Elena Mihailidou, they made it clear that they are not opposed to the individual’s need to believe, to philosophize and to seek. They oppose the exploitation of this need by organized religious systems to serve alien purposes. They further oppose the silencing of artistic freedom on the altar of religious correctness and a host of other similar issues. I think it is worth mentioning here that we are lucky enough to live in that part of the planet where voices like NIGHTFALL’s can be heard openly. Because in the free world art can and should be expressed freely.
