Πυρ Αέναον (Pyr Aenaon) is the name of the second single of Greek melodic death metallers Aetherian, from their upcoming second album At Storm’s Edge, which is due to be released on July 14th via Lifeforce Records. The production has been made by Fotis Benardo (Nightfall, ex-Septic Flesh) at Devasoundz studios.

The band also released an animated video for the single, which was created by HK Visual Creations, which has worked with Sabaton and other notable artists. This album follows their debut album, The Untamed Wilderness,which gained significant recognition.

The beautiful painting used for the cover of At Storm’s Edge is called “Les Fleurs du Mal” and is painted by French artist Yoann Lossel.

Aetherian comments for Πυρ Αέναον: “In every myth and every legend, across vast continents and raging seas, through the ages they are preserved. Looming over empires, igniting revolutions, destroying civilizations. Where the perpetual flames awoke, what was built, is no more.”

Το τραγούδι είναι άλλο ένα κλασικό τραγούδι του Jesper και του Niclas που περιλαμβάνει όλα όσα αγαπάμε να κάνουμε μαζί σε αυτή τη μπάντα. Στιχουργικά ασχολείται με τις μη ρεαλιστικές προσδοκίες και με το πόσο σημαντικό είναι να ακολουθεί κανείς το δικό του μονοπάτι και να είναι ανένδοτος σε αυτό ό,τι και αν συμβεί. Purveyors of the legendary Gothenburg sound THE HALO EFFECT have presented us with a visualizer for the song ´Path Of Fierce Resistance´, which was previously released as a Japanese exclusive on the band’s globally acclaimed debut album Days Of The Lost, that was released in August 2022. Now, the ferocious track is finally being released to the rest of the world, before the band embarks on their first US headline run in May and gets back to the studio to work on their next full-length album.

Frontman Mikael Stanne comments:”Path Of Fierce Resistance” is a song we wrote for the Days of the Lost album but it only surfaced on the limited Japanese edition and it has been very close to us and having it here now for all to hear feels fantastic. The new album is in the works and we are incredibly excited about it, so consider this as something to keep you guys going until we unveil what is coming next.
The song is another Jesper and Niclas classic that features everything that we love doing together in this band. Lyrically it deals with unrealistic expectations and about how important it is to follow one’s own path and be adamant about it no matter what. AMONGRUINS have been active ones again for good as it seems and they are preparing to release the successor of No Light which was released in 2016.

Their new, as yet untitled third album is expected to be released this summer via Theogonia Records. To pave the way, the band has released the first single/video clip for the track Wells Of War.

The video was directed by Tuomas Saukkonen of WOLFHEART and BEFORE THE DAWN.

O κιθαρίστας των Kalmah, Antti Kokko, είπε σε συνέντευξη που παραχώρησε στο Φινλανδικό ηλεκτρονικό περιοδικό Soundi:  “Το Haunted By Guilt είναι το πρώτο τραγούδι από το νέο άλμπουμ. Η ιδέα για το εναρκτήριο riff βρισκόταν στο πίσω μέρος του μυαλού μου για πολύ καιρό, αλλά δεν πήρε μια τελική μορφή μέχρι που η κατάλληλη μελωδία να έρθει από πάνω και να βρει το δικό της groove. Από εκεί εξελίχθηκαν και τα υπόλοιπα κομμάτια”, προσθέτοντας πως ο  Pekka Kokko (κιθάρα/φωνή) είναι ο υπεύθυνος για το βάθος της ψυχής των στίχων. Το μήνυμα, λέει, θα μπορούσε να συνοψιστεί ως εξής: η ανθρωπότητα πρέπει να ζει λίγο πιο καθαρά και δεν πρέπει να πηγαίνει παντού με την ελπίδα μιας τρομερής νίκης.”

Five years after the release of their last studio album, Palo, Finland’s Kalmah return with new music. The first single titled Haunted by Guilt was released today, February 24, with the full album expected to be released in late spring.

Kalmah guitarist Antti Kokko said in an interview with Finnish electronic magazine Soundi: “Haunted By Guilt is the first song from the new album. The idea for the opening riff has been in the back of my mind for a long time, but it didn’t take a final shape until the right melody came over the top and found its own groove. The rest of the songs evolved from there”, adding that Pekka Kokko (guitar/vocals) is responsible for the depth of soul in the lyrics. The message, he says, could be summed up as follows: humanity needs to live a little more clearly and not go everywhere in the hope of a terrible victory.”

Kalmah has also a tour planned this spring, alongside Mors Subita and Suotana.

Ο κιθαρίστας Markus Vanhala σχολιάζει για το κομμάτι: “Αυτό είναι ένα καλό παράδειγμα ενός τραγουδιού που μεγαλώνει και βρίσκει τα δικά του φτερά κατά τη διάρκεια της διαδικασίας στο στούντιο. Αυτό έχει σίγουρα μια κινηματογραφική αίσθηση- η ιστορία χρειάζεται την ουσία του ταξιδιού που προχωράει μπροστά. Στην πραγματικότητα, έκανα ένα φινλανδικό φωνητικό demo για αυτό, διαβάζοντας και φωνάζοντας την ιστορία του Niilo, αλλά μόνο το όνομα έμεινε και μεταφράστηκε από το ‘Noidanmetsästäjä’ στα αγγλικά. Αλλά αυτό είναι μια άλλη ιστορία και μια μυστική εκδοχή που δεν θα βρεθεί ποτέ από τους ‘ξένους’… :)”

On February 24th, Finnish metal melancholists INSOMNIUM will release their ninth full-length, Anno 1696, via Century Media Records. Based on a short story by Niilo Sevänen (bass/vocals), Anno 1696 is woven with sorrow and the last crumbling vestiges of hope. For a preview of this upcoming album, the new single, “The Witch Hunter”, can be streamed now here; the visualizer (created by David Minall//Cloud Music Typography) can be watched above.

Guitarist Markus Vanhala comments about the track: “This is a good example of a song growing and finding its own wings during the studio process. This one definitely has a cinematic feel; the storyline needs the essence of journey moving forward. In fact, I made a Finnish vocal demo for this one, reading and screaming Niilo’s storyline, but only the name stayed and translated from ‘Noidanmetsästäjä’ to English. But that’s another story and a secret version never to be found by ‘outsiders’… :)”

Bassist/vocalist Niilo Sevänen adds: “This is Markus Vanhala’s composition; it actually does not really sound like the archetypal Insomnium song and has some very interesting elements. One of the songs that improved the most in the studio in my opinion – and became one of the singles. Lyrically it continues to tell the story from the Witch Hunter’s point of view.”

Guitarist Ville Friman concludes: “For me, this song has a really strong cinematic feel to it, and I can easily travel into the story in my head when I close my eyes.”

Today, IN FLAMES release the fifth single from Foregone: “Meet Your Maker” is a pulsating track with hypnotizing power and furious anger. Like a raw nerve exposed, the song speaks of the desperation and frustration brought on by the chaotic dystopia of post-pandemic society.

Frontman Anders Fridén states, “When we started to write for Foregone, Meet Your Maker became the song that set the tone in terms of what we were aiming for sonically as well as thematically. A few weeks ago, the New Wave of Swedish Death Metal architects IN FLAMES announced their fourteenth studio album, Foregone, with the immense single ‘Foregone Pt. 1′. Today, the band pick up the threads releasing ‘Foregone Pt. 2′! The new song arrives just in time for the band’s huge upcoming tour,  that launches on November 12th in Tallin, Estonia. IN FLAMES will be supported on the road by AT THE GATES, IMMINENCE and ORBIT CULTURE.
Frontman Anders Fridén states, “While revisiting songs in our catalog like Moonshield and Gyroscope, I felt we hadn’t done that style for awhile. We wanted honor those types of songs which incorporates the Swedish folk vibe, but bring it to the current era of In flames. Musically and lyrically it is a continuation of Foregone.”

Όσον αφορά τη μουσική το King of The North έχει στοιχεία από τους DAWN OF SOLACE και τους BEFORE THE DAWN μέσα του σαν ο Tuomas να φέρνει τα “παιδιά” του για να ενώσουν τις δυνάμεις τους. Μελωδίες που ξεδιπλώνονται σε μέρη πιάνου, κιθάρες που αφηγούνται ιστορίες, ενώ κρατάνε γερά τον ήχο των WOLFHEART. Νομίζω ότι η μπάντα έχει ανυψωθεί σε νέα ύψη και το King Of The North είναι το καλύτερό τους άλμπουμ μέχρι στιγμής. Αλλά είμαι επίσης σίγουρη, ότι από τη στιγμή που αυτή η μουσική ευφυΐα έχει κατακτήσει αυτόν τον στόχο, οδεύει προς τον επόμενο και μουσικά για αυτούς τους τύπους, ο ουρανός είναι το όριο. There is a Finnish word which can’t be translated in another language and ever since I heard about it, I identified it with Tuomas Saukkonen. Because it takes a man of “sisu” to be able to shift from genres, moods and influences in such a brilliant way and yet remain such a hamble easy going person. Once I listened to the new WOLFHEART King of the North out now on Napalm Records I have to say I would crown him without a second thought, as this album is the best WOLFHEART album so far and probably the most mature Saukkonen release, at least so far.

In this release WOLFHEART utilize 3 singers and have two guest appearances both of which are exceptional in their genre. Vocals are shared between Tuomas, Vangelis and Lauri in a way they best serve the songs. Karl Sanders of NILE who opens his mouth in Cold Flame and it sounds like he covers the sun in gloom darkness and Jesse Leach of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE in Ancestor is a musical bridge joining genres in such a way that he brings two audiences together.

As far as the music is concerned King of The North has elements of DAWN OF SOLACE and BEFORE THE DAWN in it like Tuomas brings in his “children” to join forces. Melodies unfolding in piano parts, guitars narrating stories while holding strong the WOLFHEART identity sound. I think that the band has elevated itself into new heights and King Of The North is their best so far. But I am also sure, that once this musical brilliance has conquered this goal, it’s heading for the next one and music wise for these guys, sky is the limit. Open your ears and turn it up!

In Flames’ fourteenth studio album, Foregone, arrives via Nuclear Blast on February 10, 2023.

Frontman Anders Fridén states, “Going into the Foregone sessions, we wanted to make a record that was heavily guitar-driven, and that had a strong foundation between the bass and drums. We still approached our songwriting the same way, as we always have, as a juxtaposition between melody and aggression. That’s the DNA of our music. From the lyrical end of things, there was no shortage of inspiration to draw from, especially the concept of time.”

He continues,  “Humanity as a whole was forced to slow down and take breather. In that break, many of us spent time evaluating and reprioritizing. Time is a constant, but what do we do with it and how we perceive it varies. Especially now looking at where the world seems to be headed faster than ever before.”

Fridén finishes, “It’s crazy that after everything we are still here and on our fourteenth album. I feel that we’ve found a great balance between the past, the present and the future with Forgone. This is a new era of In Flames!”

Θέματα που απλά φαίνονται πολύ μεγάλα ή ακατανόητα μένουν στο περιθώριο προκειμένου να ασχοληθούμε με πιο άμεσα αλλά λιγότερο σημαντικά ζητήματα. Καταλήγουμε κάπου όχι επειδή το θέλουμε αλλά επειδή δεν μπορέσαμε να καταλάβουμε τι έπρεπε να κάνουμε. Υπάρχει μια ένταση σε αυτό το τραγούδι και μια ανεβαστική μελωδία που νομίζω ότι ταιριάζει σε αυτή την ιδέα. Three singles have been released so far by the new Gothenburg outfit THE HALO EFFECT and they have raised a lot of attention and praise in the media and fan world.

Just before hitting the stage at legendary Sweden Rock festival, the band yet reveals another melodic death metal gem,  leading up to their highly anticipated debut album “Days Of The Lost”, to be released on August 12^th via Nuclear Blast.

Frontman Mikael Stanne tells about the track: “The Needless End deals with the crippling inability to deal with abstract problems. Issues that just seem too huge or incomprehensible falls by the wayside in order to deal with more immediate but less important issues. We end up somewhere not because we want to but because we were unable to understand what we needed to do. There is an intensity to this song and a uplifting melody that I think suits this idea. Among all the anger and resentment it’s also hopeful and has an infectious groove and drive.”

Amon Amarth reveal second single Get In The Ring. The song is probabbly going to be included in the band’s upcoming album but is officially released today as a single. Η συναυλία για την κυκλοφορία του άλμπουμ του συγκροτήματος από το Aalen θα γιορταστεί την ίδια μέρα στο Summer Breeze Open Air στο Dinkelsbühl.

PARASITE INC. announce the release of their third studio album “Cyan Night Dreams” on August 19, 2022 via Reaper Entertainment. The most professional production of the German melodeathers so far was also made possible this time by the support of the Initiative Musik within the framework of the “Neustart-Kultur-Programm”.

The album release show of the Aalen-based band will be celebrated on the same day at the Summer Breeze Open Air in Dinkelsbühl.

The first single “I Am” is announced for May 13, 2022, the video premiere will take place on May 12, 2022.
Statement from the band:

“As with the previous albums, we have implemented the concept and design of the album cover ourselves, because the artwork is for us not only an important building block in the overall concept and implementation of a new record, but at the same time should also create a unity between old works and new material. The upcoming album is an evolution of the typical PARASITE INC. sound and the cover reflects exactly that: On “Dead and Alive” the motif was a mechanical heart, which we transplanted into a complete, mechanical being for “Cyan Night Dreams”. We always try to create something new and exciting from individual, familiar elements, both visually and in the terms of our songs.”

Watch last night’s performance of Punish My Heaven by Dark Tranquility and Mikael Stanne getting emotional while talking about late guitarist Fredrik Johansson.

Η μπάντα που περιλαμβάνει τους Jesper Strömblad και Niclas Engelin (ex- IN FLAMES), τον τραγουδιστή Mikael Stanne (DARK TRANQUILITY), καθώς και τα πρώην μέλη των IN FLAMES Peter Iwers και Daniel Svensson, παρουσιάζει ένα ακόμα masterclass στο σουηδικό μελωδικό death metal!

Ο frontman Mikael Stanne εξηγεί για το τραγούδι: Το “Days Of The Lost” έχει να κάνει με το να βρεις τη θέση σου στη ζωή, με το να μετατρέψεις το στίγμα του απόκληρου σε κάτι που σε ωθεί μπροστά. Γνωριστήκαμε όλοι στα μέσα της εφηβείας μας και όλοι προσπαθούσαμε να βρούμε κατεύθυνση, κίνητρο και νόημα. Ευτυχώς το βρήκαμε στη δημιουργικότητα και τη μουσική και μοιραστήκαμε αυτό το πάθος και φτιάξαμε κάτι από αυτό που παραμένει ένα ουσιαστικό μέρος του ποιοι είμαστε ως άτομα και ως μέρη ενός συνόλου. Έτσι, εδώ είμαστε εμείς που αναλογιζόμαστε το παρελθόν μας, ενώ παρακολουθούμε μια νέα γενιά να βρίσκει αργά αλλά σταθερά το δρόμο της. Το βίντεο γυρίστηκε μια κρύα μέρα του Ιανουαρίου σε μια ταράτσα σε μια τοποθεσία στο Γκέτεμποργκ που ονομάζεται “Ringön”, η οποία ήταν κάποτε βιομηχανική, αλλά σήμερα μετατρέπεται σε ένα δροσερό μέρος με όλες τις ζυθοποιίες, τα κλαμπ, τους χώρους και όλα τα δημιουργικά είδη δραστηριοτήτων. Τη σκηνοθεσία έχει αναλάβει ο Theo Gabay μαζί με τον συνεργάτη του Morgan Jensen, οι οποίοι είναι περισσότερο γνωστοί στη Σουηδία για τις κινηματογραφικές και τηλεοπτικές τους δουλειές.

THE HALO EFFECTis the biggest surprise in the metal scene in a long time. After making a big impression with their debut single “Shadowminds” and the follow up single “Feel What I Believe”, the band now announces their debut album for August 12^th and kicks off the pre-save phase with a third single and video for the album title track “Days Of The Lost”.

The band featuring guitar heroes & songwriting wizards Jesper Strömblad and Niclas Engelin (ex- IN FLAMES), singer Mikael Stanne (DARK TRANQUILITY), as well as former IN FLAMES members Peter Iwers and Daniel Svensson, presenting another masterclass in Swedish melodic death metal!

Frontman Mikael Stanne explainsabout the song: “Days Of The Lost” is about finding your place in life, about making that outcast experience into something that propels you forward. We all met in our mid teens and we were all trying to find direction, motivation and meaning. Thankfully we found it in creativity and music and we shared this passion and made something from it that remains an essential part of who we are as individuals and as parts of a whole. So this is us reflecting on our past, while watching a new generation slowly but surely find their path. It’s about standing up, being your true self and about not letting anything stand in your way. Our choices and our paths have led to all kinds of things but we wouldn’t change a thing.”

The video was shot on a cold day in January at a rooftop at a location in Gothenburg called “Ringön”, that used to be all industrial but nowadays turning into a cool place with all it´s breweries, clubs, venues and all creative sorts of activities. It is directed by Theo Gabay along with his sidekick Morgan Jensen, who are more known in Sweden for their movie and tv work.

 Η παραγωγή του The Entropic Queen έγινε από τον Tommy Monticelli στο Sonitus Studio κατά τη διάρκεια των μεταγενέστερων συνεπειών της μόλυνσης του συγκροτήματος από τον ιό Covid-19. Το τραγούδι αφηγείται μια ιστορία σχετικά με την πανδημία, αλλά από την οπτική γωνία του ιού, ο οποίος αναπαρίσταται ως μια εντροπική βασίλισσα που (εισβολέας της συνεχούς επέκτασης του ανθρώπου) αντιδρά και απαντά στην επίθεση, με το στρατό της από στρατιώτες που φέρουν ακίδες. Όλο το τραγούδι είναι μια μεγάλη αλληγορία που αφηγείται την επίθεση του ιού στο κύτταρο σαν να επρόκειτο για την επίθεση σε ένα κάστρο. Το single διαθέτει εξώφυλλο από τον Tom Roberts.

The Entropic Queen is the new music video and single from Italian symphonic death metal masters, Genus Ordinis Dei. The single was just released worldwide a couple of days ago, and it is the latest since the release of their critically acclaimed full-length album and metal music video series Glare of Deliverance.

The Entropic Queen was produced by Tommy Monticelli at Sonitus Studio during the after-effects of the band’s infection with the Covid-19 virus. The song tells a story about the pandemic, but from the perspective of the virus which is represented as an entropic queen who (invaded by the continuous expansion of man) reacts and responds to the attack, with her army of spike-carrying soldiers. The whole song is a great allegory that narrates the attack on the cell by the virus as if it were the assault of a castle. The single features cover art by Tom Roberts.

Έχω παρακολουθήσει μερικά livestreams αφότου ο covid τα έκανε “μόδα” και πάντα μου έλειπε ο παλμός και το πάθος που έχει ένα πραγματικό live, οπότε ήμουν μάλλον επιφυλακτική για το τι θα παρακολουθούσα…

Ωστόσο, πρέπει να λάβουμε υπόψη το γεγονός ότι ο Dani Filth είναι ένας ιδιοφυής καλλιτέχνης και θα γινόταν ένας ιδιοφυής σκηνοθέτης αν ήθελε να το επιχειρήσει, ειδικά σε θρίλερ, καθώς η αισθητική του είναι ένα μεγάλο μέρος της επιτυχίας του CoF.

Το Livestream ξεκίνησε ακριβώς όπως είχε προγραμματιστεί με ένα πολύ ζωηρό chatbox στο πλάι, ωστόσο το έκρυψα προκειμένου να απολαύσω πλήρως την παράσταση. Το σκηνικό ήταν ένας κύκλος από φως, πυροτεχνήματα και σκηνικά φτιαγμένα από δέντρα, νεκροκεφαλές και καπνό από τη μηχανή καπνού.

Οι Cradle Of Filth έπαιξαν το Dusk And Her Embrace στο σύνολό του δημιουργώντας μια όμορφη τρομακτική ατμόσφαιρα. Τα φωνητικά του Danni ακούγονταν σαν να μην τα είχε αγγίξει καθόλου ο χρόνος. Η Anabelle Iratni ακουγόταν σχεδόν ακριβώς όπως η Sarah Jezebel Deva που ήταν στην αρχική ηχογράφηση του άλμπουμ. Το drumming ήταν καταπληκτικό και οι κιθάρες δημιουργούσαν μια ζοφερή, τρομακτική ατμόσφαιρα.

Μετά από αυτό, ο Danni απευθύνθηκε στο κοινό, λέγοντας ότι ο λόγος που αποφάσισαν να κάνουν ένα δεύτερο livestream ήταν επειδή το προηγούμενο πήγε πολύ καλά, και αν και αυτό είναι δημοφιλές, θα συνεχίσουν να κάνουν live streams, αφιερωμένα σε ολόκληρα άλμπουμ.

Το δεύτερο μέρος του livestream ξεκίνησε με το τρίτο βίντεο κλιπ από την τελευταία τους κυκλοφορία, Existence Is Futile, το οποίο ήταν το How Many Tears To Nurture A Rose. Ένα ακραίο βίντεο που έχω αμφιβολίες για το αν το You Tube θα το επιτρέψει χωρίς περιορισμούς. Μετά από αυτό συνέχισαν με διαφορετικά κοστούμια, τουλάχιστον για τον Danni, διαφορετικό σκηνικό στο οποίο κυριαρχούσε το εξώφυλλο του νέου άλμπουμ, και έπαιξαν μερικά από τα νέα τραγούδια αλλά και κάποια αγαπημένα των οπαδών. Η προσωπική μου αγαπημένη στιγμή ήταν το Bathory Aria που ερμηνεύτηκε εξαιρετικά.

Μειονέκτημα της όλης παραγωγής ήταν η σκηνοθεσία η οποία ήταν, για να το θέσω ξεκάθαρα, απροετοίμαστη. Δεν ξέρω αν ήταν καλλιτεχνική επιλογή, πάντως προσωπικά θα προτιμούσα να βλέπω τον κιθαρίστα να παίζει το σόλο παρά τον ρυθμικό κιθαρίστα, την ώρα που παίζει σόλο.  Κατά τα άλλα, ήταν ένα livestream που άξιζε το εισιτήριό του και αν με ρωτούσαν, σίγουρα θα επέλεγα να το παρακολουθήσω ξανά. Το livestream θα είναι διαθέσιμο για άλλες 9 ημέρες και μετά οι χρήστες θα έχουν πρόσβαση στο προηγούμενο, του Μαϊου, livestream του συγκροτήματος.

Μέχρι το Release Athens και τη ζωντανή τους εμφάνιση στην Αθήνα… stay Filthy!

Ever since Existence is Futile was released, I am going through a second “honey moon” in love period with Cradle Of Filth, so when the Brits announced their infernal livestream entitled “The Infernal Vernal Equinox” in tribute to their legendary release Dusk And Her Embrace, I was one of the first to go on and buy a “ticket”. I have watched a few livestreams after covid made them a “trend” and was always missing the heat and passion a real live show has, so I was rather skeptical about what I would watch…

However, we have to take into account the fact Dani Filth is a brilliant artist and would make a brilliant director if he wished to attempt that, especially in horror as his aesthetics is a big part of CoF’s success.
Livestream began exactly as planned with a very lively chatbox on the side however I hid it in order to fully enjoy the show. The set was a circle of light, pyro and set made of trees, skulls and the occasional smoke from the smoke machine. Cradle Of Filth played Dusk And Her Embrace in its entirety creating a beautiful spooky atmosphere. Dani’s vocals sounded as if time hadn’t touched them at all. Anabelle Iratni sounded almost exactly like Sarah Jezebel Deva who was in the original version of the album. The drumming was amazing and the guitars created a thick gloomy, horror atmosphere.

After that, Danni addressed the audience, saying that the reason they decided to have a second livestream was because the pervious one went very well, and if this one is popular too, they will continue to do live streams, dedicated to entire albums.

The second part of the livestream started with the third video clip from their latest release, Existence Is Futile, which was How Many Tears To Nurture A Rose, an extreme video which I have my doubts whether You Tube will allow it without restrictions. After that they went on with different costumes, at least for Danni, different setting which was dominated by the new album’s backdrop artwork, and played some of the new songs but also some fan favorites. My personal favorite moment was Bathory Aria which was performed exquisitely.

Downside to the whole production was the direction which was, to put it to the point, not prepared. I don’t know if it was an artistic choice, however I personally would prefer watching the guitarist playing the solo than the rhythm guitarist.  Other than that, it was a livestream well worth its ticket and had I been asked, I would definitely choose to watch it again. The livestream will be available for 9 more days and after that the users will have access to the band’s previous, May livestream.

Until Release Athens and their live appearance in Athens… stay filthy!
