Όταν τον Ιούλιο κυκλοφορούσε η ζωντανή ηχογράφηση των SWALLOW THE SUN, 20 Years of Gloom Beauty and Despair Live in Helsinki δεν ξέραμε ότι πρόκειται σχεδόν αμέσως μετά να ακολουθήσει νέα κυκλοφορία με φρέσκο υλικό.

Όταν έσκασε η είδηση της κυκλοφορίας του Moonflowers μαζί με τις ορχηστικές εκδόσεις που έσκαγαν μια κάθε εβδομάδα η αναμονή έγινε βασανιστική. Παρασκευή 19 Νοεμβρίου επιτέλους ολοκληρώνεται η αναμονή και ακούμε ένα ολοκαίνουριο άλμπουμ που δεν ξεφεύγει από τη γνωστή σκοτεινή βελούδινη καταχνιά που χαρακτηρίζει το ατμοσφαιρικό doom των Φινλανδών μόνο που το υλικό τους είναι διανθισμένο από black πινελιές που το κάνουν άκρως ενδιαφέρον!

Με 8 συνθέσεις στο γνώριμο ύφος της μπάντας και εναλλαγή καθαρών και growl φωνητικών το Moonflowers δεν είναι μια κυκλοφορία που μας εκπλήσσει με τις καινοτομίες της όμως έχει μέσα κάποιες στιγμές που θα μας συνοδεύουν για καιρό, όπως το Keep Your Heart Safe From Me, All Hallow’s Grief (feat. OCEANS OF SLUMBER’s Cammie Gilbert) αλλά και το προσωπικό αγαπημένο του άλμπουμ This House Has No Home (feat. Stam1na’s Antti Hyyrynen). Για μένα οι Swallow The Sun ήταν και παραμένουν η νέα γενιά του ατμοσφαιρικού doom που δεν ανεβάζει ταχύτητα αλλά χρησιμοποιεί καθαρά φωνητικά θυμίζοντας το ύφος των KATATONIA. Ωστόσο σε αυτή την κυκλοφορία με το This House Has No Home με κάνουν να αναρωτιέμαι αν κλείνουν το μάτι στο post black metal των HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY. Ο ίδιος ο Raivio δηλώνει σχετικά με τις «πληγές» από τις οποίες προέρχεται αυτή η κυκλοφορία: “Γνωρίζω ότι πιθανότατα δεν θα έπρεπε να το πω αυτό αλλά μισώ βαθιά αυτό το άλμπουμ. Μισώ το που με πηγαίνει και το τι αντιπροσωπεύει για μένα. Εύχομαι να μη το έκανε. Αλλά με όλη του την αλήθεια, δεν έχω καμία επιλογή παρά να το αγαπώ. Αυτό μετράει για μένα στη μουσική έτσι και αλλιώς. Δεν έχει σημασία τι σε κάνει να νιώθεις αρκεί που σε συγκινεί.”

Το εξώφυλλο του Moonflowers είναι φτιαγμένο από αποξηραμένα λουλούδια που είχε μαζέψει ο Raivio και το αίμα του για να βάψει το φεγγάρι. Οπότε που καταλήγουμε; Είναι το Moonflowers ένα από τα άλμπουμ της χρονιάς; Όχι αλλά έχει μέσα του στιγμές που αξίζουν να μείνουν στην playlist σου για χρόνια.

When Swallow The Sun released SWALLOW THE SUN, 20 Years of Gloom Beauty and Despair Live in Helsinki last July we had no idea they already had an album ready with new songs. When the news hit us for the release of Moonflowers along with the orchestral version that were published one each week the wait for November 19^th became quite torturing. So yesterday the wait was finally over and we got to listen to the new album. Moonflowers is an album that doesn’t deviate from the familiar dark, velvety gloominess of the atmospheric doom Finns only this time they have enhanced it with black brushstrokes and have made the final result deeply interesting!

With 8 songs in the familiar sound of the band and the lingering between clean and growling vocals Moonflowers is not the release that will blow your mind with the ground breaking development of the band but is includes songs that will make you listen to over and over for a long time such as Keep Your Heart Safe From Me, All Hallow’s Grief (feat. OCEANS OF SLUMBER’s Cammie Gilbert) and my personal favorite This House Has No Home (feat. Stam1na’s Antti Hyyrynen). For me SWALLOW THE SUN were and remain the new generation of atmospheric doom that doesn’t accelerate the pace, but uses some clean vocals at times reminding the style of KATATONIA. However in this release with songs like This House Has No Home, I can’t help but wonder if they are flirting with the post black metal of HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY. So deep are the wounds from which Moonflowers surfaced that Raivio says about it: “I know well that I should not say this, but I deeply hate this album. I hate where it takes me, how it makes me feel, and what it stands for me. I wish it wouldn’t. But for all its honesty, I got no option than also [to] love it. That is all that matters to me with the music anyway. It doesn’t matter how it makes me feel, as long as it does.”

The artwork of Moonflowers is made of dried flowers Raivio had picked up but also his blood to paint the moon. So where do we stand? Is Moonflowers one of the best albums of the year? Now, but it includes some moments inside it that will be in your playlist for years to come.

WOVEN INTO SORROW ΤΟ ΠΡΩΤΟ VIDEO SINGLE ΤΩΝ SWALLOW THE SUN

Woven Into Sorrow είναι το πρώτο video single των Swallow The Sun που παρουσιάζεται στην ολοκληρωμένη μορφή του μετά την ορχηστρική. Το “Woven Into Sorrow“, θα περιέχεται στο Moonflowers που θα κυκλοφορήσει 19 Νοέμβρη από τη Century Media. Το ολοκαίνουριο τραγούδι είναι η πρώτη heavy version που κυκλοφορεί από τον δίσκο καθώς όπως είχαμε αναφέρει και στο παρελθόν η μπάντα θα κυκλοφορήσει μαζί με την κανονική κυκλοφορία την ορχηστρική κλασσική εκδοχη όλων των τραγουδιών που ήδη είναι διαθέσιμα στο You Tube.

Here is the first single and video “Woven Into Sorrow“, taken off upcoming album Moonflowers which will be released worldwide on November 19 th on Century Media.

The brand-new track is the first heavy version to be released of the record, as the band already released very special classical editions of the regular album songs. Both versions – classical string

and regular album version – are as dark and mournful as we are accustomed to SWALLOW THE SUN.

MOONFLOWERS ΤΟ ΝΕΟ ΑΛΜΠΟΥΜ ΤΩΝ SWALLOW THE SUN

Μόλις μια εβδομάδα μετά την κυκλοφορία του live album τους οι Swallow The Sun ανακοινώνουν την κυκλοφορία νέου άλμπουμ με τον τίτλο Moonflowers!

Με απόλυτη μυστικότητα, οι Φινλανδοί death doom, SWALLOW THE SUN, έγραψαν, ηχογράφησαν και μίξαραν ένα νέο άλμπουμ με τίτλο “Moonflowers”. Είναι ήδη έτοιμο και θα κυκλοφορήσει στις 19 Νοεμβρίου 2021.

Μαζί με μερικές από τις εκδόσεις του άλμπουμ, θα κυκλοφορήσει επίσης ένα πλήρες μπόνους άλμπουμ με πολύ ιδιαίτερες ορχηστρικές εκδόσεις όλων των κανονικών κομματιών του άλμπουμ. Αυτό το ορχηστρικό άλμπουμ έχει δημιουργηθεί για έγχορδα και ηχογραφήθηκε στο Sipoo Church στη Φινλανδία. Τα έγχορδα είναι η ομάδα που ονομάζεται “Trio NOX” από τη Φινλανδία.

Από σήμερα, όλα αυτά τα ορχηστρικά τραγούδια θα κυκλοφορήσουν ως βίντεο, τα οποία δημιουργήθηκαν από την Dronicon Films. Ένα προς ένα κάθε εβδομάδα, που οδηγεί στο πρώτο single κυκλοφορία του κύριου άλμπουμ.

In all the silence, Finnish death doom masters, SWALLOW THE SUN, have written, recorded and mixed a new album called “Moonflowers”. It is done and ready and will be released on November 19th, 2021.

Along with some of the album formats, there will also come a full bonus album featuring very special instrumental versions of all the regular album tracks. This instrumental album has been composed for strings and recorded at Sipoo Church in Finland. The strings were performed by the group called “Trio NOX” from Finland.

Starting today, all these instrumental songs will be launched as animated videos, which were created by Dronicon Films. One by one every week, leading up to the first single release of the main album.
