Στο άλμπουμ αυτό συλλέγονται τα πιο εντυπωσιακά στοιχεία από τη μουσική κληρονομιά των προηγούμενων έργων του συγκροτήματος και προσαρμόζονται σε συνθέσεις πιο ξεκάθαρες, πιο συναισθηματικές και πιο μελωδικές που δεν υστερούν όμως σε δύναμη και βάθος. Χρειάζεται μεγάλο ταλέντο και ακόμα μεγαλύτερη έμπνευση για να φτιάξεις τραγούδια που ενώ κουβαλάνε μέσα τους την πεμπτουσία του ακραίου, κολασμένου ήχου δεκαετιών, αφήνουν στον μέσο ακροατή τέτοια ισορροπημένη αίσθηση αρμονίας ανάμεσα στο λυρικό και το extreme. Οι μελωδίες, τα ρεφρέν και η ζοφερή ατμόσφαιρα του The Screaming Of The Valkyries ήρθαν για να μείνουν και να στοιχειώσουν τα πιο παράξενα και αλλόκοτα όνειρα μας με τραγούδια θρησκευτικής φλεγματικής σάτιρας όπως το To Live Deliciously. Τραγούδια γεμάτα σκοτεινή μεγαλοπρέπεια και μαγεία που αμφιταλαντεύονται ανάμεσα στη ζωή και το θάνατο όπως το White Hellebore και το Malignant Perfection. Τραγούδια γεμάτα βαμπιρικό εκστασιασμό όπως το Ex Sanguine Draculae και ζοφερή υπαρξιακή περιδίνηση όπως το The Trinity of Shadows. Cradle of Filth‘s fourteenth album sets a new impressive direction in their sound with the able Scott Atkins remaining firmly behind the production. Despite their thirty-one years of recording, not only do they not rehash but on the contrary, they are constantly evolving their sound and to many of us they give the impression that with this latest release, a bright new era has already begun. The Screaming Of The Valkyries, sounds very pleasant and time seems to contract the more we get lost in the music and lyrics.

In this album, the most impressive elements from the musical heritage of the band’s previous works are collected and adapted to compositions that are clearer, more emotional and more melodic but not lacking in power and depth. It takes great talent and even greater inspiration to create songs that while carrying within them the quintessential extreme, hellish sound of decades, leave the average listener with such a balanced sense of harmony between the lyrical and the extreme. The melodies, choruses and bleak atmosphere of The Screaming Of The Valkyries are here to stay and haunt our strangest and weirdest dreams with songs of religious phlegmatic satire like To Live Deliciously. Songs full of dark majesty and magic that vacillate between life and death like White Hellebore and Malignant Perfection. Songs full of vampiric rapture like Ex Sanguine Draculae and grim existential wanderings like The Trinity of Shadows. Songs full of love, devotion and dark romanticism like Non Omnis Moriar (“Not all of me will die” ) and You Are My Nautilus. And finally, songs with a metaphorical style that reflect the more nerve-wracking and deadly aspects of today such as Demagoguery and When Misery Was a Stranger.

The grandiose title of the album, The Screaming Of The Valkyries, can only make the listener wonder. Where does such a title fit into such an album? The answer is hidden in the last song When Misery Was A Stranger and you will discover it for yourself by listening to it. Those of you who have studied the lyrics of the charismatic Dani Filth will have realized that he is a gifted poet with a unique talent. Speaking of Valkyries, it’s good to mention the album’s peculiar cover artwork created by Roberto Diaz, whose art combines traditional drawing with digital painting to create dark surrealistic portraits of revered figures from bygone eras, distorted by monstrous changes, additions and horrific transformations.

And because nothing in this life is random, don’t wonder how Cradle of Filth after so many years of career sound more refreshed than ever. The answer lies in the endless talent of Dani Filth, their line-up (Marek “Ashok” Šmerda on guitar, Martin “Marthus” Škaroupka on drums, Daniel Firth on bass) and the two new members of the band. Thirty-seven year old Donny Burbage on guitar and thirty-two year old Zoe Marie Federoff on keyboards and female vocals. The story behind the song couldn’t fit better into the world of Powerwolf: It’s about a mysterious beast that killed countless people in the south of France at the end of the 18th century. The beast was never caught and there have always been many legends surrounding the events, up to the interpretation of the clergy, who saw the beast as ‘God’s punishment’ or even as a ‘savior of mankind from the worldly and sinful existence.'”
