Τα περισσότερα από τα πρώτα δείγματα από τα single με άφησαν λίγο σκεπτικό γιατί μεμονωμένα τουλάχιστον δεν μου άφησαν την καλύτερη γεύση. Χάρηκα όμως στην πορεία να διαπιστώσω πως όντως, σαν μεμονωμένα κομμάτια δεν έχουν τρομερή δυναμική, σαν μέρος όμως ενός συνόλου όπως το Karma όμως, λειτουργούν πάρα πολύ καλά και ακούγονται ευχάριστα. Ο δίσκος αποτελεί μια πάρα πολύ φυσική συνέχεια των δύο προηγούμενων κυκλοφοριών των φίλων μας από την Τυνησία, με αρκετά ευδιάθετη και ανεβαστική διάθεση, χωρίς ιδιαίτερα επιθετικές στιγμές. Αυτό πιθανόν να αποτελεί την μοναδική αρνητική για εμένα λεπτομέρεια. 

Πιασάρικα, μεγάλα refren, ethnic ρυθμοί όπως είναι αναμενόμενο, πολύ ωραία 80s’ disco πινελιά στο Let It Go που ακούγεται πολύ φρέσκια για την μπάντα και σε γενικές γραμμές ότι ακριβώς περιμένεις από έναν δίσκο των MYRATH. Αποδεικνύονται σταθερή αξία και εγγύηση, καλά καιρό τώρα αλλά για λίγο με τρόμαξαν με τα single. Ωραία κομμάτια, χωρίς fillers υπό αυτή την έννοια καθαρά, χωρίς όμως και εκπλήξεις ή μεγάλη ποικιλία ως προς τα ηχοχρώματα σε αντίθεση με παλαιότερες δουλειές τους. Αν κάτι μου λείπει εμένα προσωπικά είναι η πιο κιθαριστική προσέγγιση στα κομμάτα, κοινώς riff driven συνθέσεις με περισσότερο τις κιθάρες στο επίκεντρο και λιγότερο τις μελωδίες των πλήκτρων. Λίγο νεύρο παραπάνω, λίγο χρώμα από Tales Of The Sands θα ήθελα και πάλι. Παικτικά η ομάδα απλά φυσάει, o Zorgati μας παίζει στα δάχτυλα και οι τριάδα Ben Arbia/Bertnet/Jouini κεντάνε. Επιλεκτικά To The Stars, Let It Go, Temple Walls, Child Of Prophecy (μιλάμε για μεγάλη κομματάρα), Carry On τραβάνε την προσοχή με το καλημέρα. Καλά από θέμα παραγωγής ούτε λόγος, δεν έκαναν ποτέ έκπτωση σε αυτό το θέμα, έτσι απλά για να το ακούνε κάποιο άλλοι αυτό.

I was looking forward to the new album of MYRATH, you see I have a special love for them since the beginning of their career. You don’t call them an easy listen, they are definitely not for everyone, especially for a country where the imported “tsiftelli” has been combined with very specific audiences and images, unlike MYRATH who for them are part of their culture and tradition. And as I have said in a past review, there is no room for review in the tradition and culture of each musician and country. 

Most of the first singles left me a bit skeptical because individually at least they didn’t leave me with the best taste. But I was pleased to find out along the way that indeed, as individual tracks they don’t have a great potential, but as part of a whole like Karma, however, they work very well and are pleasant to listen to. The album is a very natural continuation of the two previous releases of our friends from Tunisia, with a quite cheerful and uplifting mood, without any particularly aggressive moments. This is probably the only negative detail for me. 

Catchy, big choruses, ethnic rhythms as expected, very nice 80s’ disco touch in Let It Go that sounds very fresh for the band and in general everything you expect from a MYRATH album. They prove to be a solid value and guarantee, well for quite a long time now but they had me worried for a while with the singles. Nice tracks, no fillers in that sense, but no surprises or much variety in terms of sound colors unlike their earlier works. If there is something I personally miss is the more guitar driven approach to the compositions, with more guitars in the center and less keyboard melodies. A little more nerve, a little more Tales Of The Sands vibe, that is something I would like to hear again. The band just kills it, Zorgati plays us on his fingers and the Ben Arbia/Bertnet/Jouini trio is just amazing. Selectively To The Stars, Let It Go, Temple Walls, Child Of Prophecy (talk about a great track), Carry On grab the attention right off the bat. Well from a production point of view there is nothing to talk about, they never made discounts in this area, just saying, for some others to listen to it.

With the album that brings them out of their ten-year hiatus just over a month away, BEFORE THE DAWN have released another single.

The single is for the track Chains and features a combination of clean and brutal vocals from the band’s new frontman Paavo Laapotti.

Stormbringers is scheduled for release on June 30th via Napalm Records.

SEVENDUST are preparing to release their 14th album via Napalm Records. The band’s new album is titled Truth Killer and is scheduled for release on July 28.

The album contains 12 tracks with Michael “Elvis” Baskette, who has previously worked with such acts as ALTER BRIDGE and SLASH, producing the album.

So in anticipation of the release of Truth Killer, the band has posted a second single/video clip, this time for the track Everything.

A few days before the release of their new album, Dealing With Demons Vol. II, DEVILDRIVER have released a new single/video clip.

This new single is for the track This Relationship, Broken, which the band’s frontman Dez Fafara commented on:

“This Relationship, Broken’ explores the severance that happens between two long time partners when they leave each other after years of turmoil”.

DEVILDRIVER‘s new album, Dealing With Demons Vol. II, will be released on May 12th via Napalm Records and it continues the saga Dealing With Demons Vol. I started back in 2020. Steve Evetts is ones again behind the production/engineering with the band’s guitarist Mike Spreitzer assisting with additional engineering.

It’s been 20 years since the last live release of the special blacksters CRADLE OF FILTH, something that changes with Trouble And Their Double Lives which has just been released by Napalm Records.

In Trouble And Their Double Lives, apart from live performances of some of the most classic tracks and moments of their long career, we find 2 new compositions, one of which is She Is A Fire, a track that from the first moment it was released, almost a month ago, is already a reference point among the band’s friends.

The second new composition is titled Demon Prince Regent and is accompanied by a video clip through the band’s live performances in the past months. Both the album and the 2 new tracks were produced by Scott Atkins and recorded by Danny B.

After 10 years of absence, Finns Before The Dawn return with their new single Destroyer, which was  released today along with the official music video, and they also announce their new album, Stormbringers.

Before The Dawn said of Destroyer:  “Destroyer was the first song written for the new album and being the spark that ignited the whole writing process it deserves to be the first single as well. The song also reflects really well the rediscovered fire inside the band and our determination and strength we have gathered during the 10 years of hibernation.”

With a new lineup, the band presents its largest shake-up to date. Former guitarist and vocalist Tuomas Saukkonen has moved behind the drums and talented Voice Of Finland 2022 finalist Paavo Laapotti has taken over all vocalist duties, while Juho Räihä of Swallow The Sun – who has also been a member of Before The Dawn since 2006 – serves as lead guitarist.

Μέσα από την επερχόμενη της δουλειά, η μπάντα δημοσίευσε το single για το κομμάτι If Blood Is Life. Το video του κομματιού περιλαμβάνει πλάνα από την κοινή περιοδεία του συγκροτήματος με τους Cradle Of Filth.

Ο frontman των  DEVILDRIVER,Dez Fafara ανέφερε σχετικά με το If Blood Is Life:

New album is to be expected in early May from DEVILDRIVER. Dealing With Demons Vol. II is expected to be released via Napalm Records and is the second part of the thematic saga that began on their previous release.

From their upcoming work, the band has released the single for the track If Blood Is Life. The video for the track features footage from the band’s joint tour with Cradle Of Filth.

Wolfheart have released the best album in their discography so far so even though it hasn’t been long since we last talked with Tuomas Saukkonen, we had to talk about the masterpiece entitled “King Of The North” out now on Napalm Records.

Σε αυτή την κυκλοφορία οι WOLFHEART χρησιμοποιούν 3 τραγουδιστές και έχουν δύο guest εμφανίσεις και οι δύο είναι εξαιρετικοί στο είδος τους. Τα φωνητικά μοιράζονται μεταξύ Tuomas, Vangelis και Lauri με τον τρόπο που εξυπηρετούν καλύτερα τα τραγούδια. Ο Karl Sanders των NILE που ανοίγει το στόμα του στο Cold Flame και ακούγεται σαν να σκεπάζει τον ήλιο με ένα καταθλιπτικό σκοτάδι και ο Jesse Leach των KILLSWITCH ENGAGE στο Ancestor είναι μια μουσική γέφυρα που ενώνει τα είδη με τέτοιο τρόπο που φέρνει κοντά δύο ακροατήρια.

Όσον αφορά τη μουσική το King of The North έχει στοιχεία από τους DAWN OF SOLACE και τους BEFORE THE DAWN μέσα του σαν ο Tuomas να φέρνει τα “παιδιά” του για να ενώσουν τις δυνάμεις τους. Μελωδίες που ξεδιπλώνονται σε μέρη πιάνου, κιθάρες που αφηγούνται ιστορίες, ενώ κρατάνε γερά τον ήχο των WOLFHEART. Νομίζω ότι η μπάντα έχει ανυψωθεί σε νέα ύψη και το King Of The North είναι το καλύτερό τους άλμπουμ μέχρι στιγμής. Αλλά είμαι επίσης σίγουρη, ότι από τη στιγμή που αυτή η μουσική ευφυΐα έχει κατακτήσει αυτόν τον στόχο, οδεύει προς τον επόμενο και μουσικά για αυτούς τους τύπους, ο ουρανός είναι το όριο. Ανοίξτε τα αυτιά σας και δυναμώστε το!

There is a Finnish word which can’t be translated in another language and ever since I heard about it, I identified it with Tuomas Saukkonen. Because it takes a man of “sisu” to be able to shift from genres, moods and influences in such a brilliant way and yet remain such a hamble easy going person. Once I listened to the new WOLFHEART King of the North out now on Napalm Records I have to say I would crown him without a second thought, as this album is the best WOLFHEART album so far and probably the most mature Saukkonen release, at least so far.

In this release WOLFHEART utilize 3 singers and have two guest appearances both of which are exceptional in their genre. Vocals are shared between Tuomas, Vangelis and Lauri in a way they best serve the songs. Karl Sanders of NILE who opens his mouth in Cold Flame and it sounds like he covers the sun in gloom darkness and Jesse Leach of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE in Ancestor is a musical bridge joining genres in such a way that he brings two audiences together.

As far as the music is concerned King of The North has elements of DAWN OF SOLACE and BEFORE THE DAWN in it like Tuomas brings in his “children” to join forces. Melodies unfolding in piano parts, guitars narrating stories while holding strong the WOLFHEART identity sound. I think that the band has elevated itself into new heights and King Of The North is their best so far. But I am also sure, that once this musical brilliance has conquered this goal, it’s heading for the next one and music wise for these guys, sky is the limit. Open your ears and turn it up!

Και όντως γιορτάζουν την εγγύτητα με τους οπαδούς τους κάνοντάς τους μέρος δύο τραγουδιών τους. Έχοντας φτάσει σε νέα ύψη δημοτικότητας, οι EVERGREY κάνουν τώρα το βήμα τους επανεξετάζοντας στοιχεία της πορείας τους από όλα αυτά τα χρόνια, μέσα από μια φρεσκοαποκτημένη διάσταση. Οι κιθάρες είναι κυρίαρχες και τα ντραμς γρήγορα και σκληρά και μέσα σε αυτή την έντονη ατμόσφαιρα του riffing έρχεται η συναισθηματική, εύθραυστη φωνή του Tom Englund να χαράξει το δρόμο της προς τον πυρήνα σου. Τα τραγούδια είναι ταυτόχρονα πορωτικά και καταθλιπτικά, καθώς μπορούν να σας εμπνεύσουν και να σε καταρακώσουν την ίδια στιγμή. Από την εποχή του Hymns For The Broken οι EVERGREY αναπτύσσονται όλο και περισσότερο από άποψη δημοτικότητας. Όσον αφορά τη δημιουργικότητά τους, αναπτύσσονται δυναμικά από την αρχή της δημιουργίας τους. Και εμείς οι παλιοί οπαδοί, είμαστε ευτυχείς να καλωσορίσουμε όλους εσάς τους καινούργιους, που μόλις μπήκατε στην παρέα.

Το Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) είναι η επόμενη πρόκληση για το συγκρότημα. Με τραγούδια όπως το Call Out The Dark – σας προκαλώ να σταματήσετε να τραγουδάτε αυτό το τραγούδι αφού το ακούσετε- που μιλάνε κατευθείαν στην καρδιά σας, βαθιές ερμηνείες όπως το Ominous, Blindfolded, Reawakening (τι υπέροχες φωνητικές γραμμές σε αυτό) αλλά και γρήγορα περασμένα “progie” τραγούδια όπως το ομώνυμο κομμάτι που φέρνουν στο μυαλό το Monday Morning Apocalypse και το Torn το A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) είναι βέβαιο ότι θα κυριαρχήσει στο playlist σας για πολύ καιρό. Αυτό που είναι εντυπωσιακό είναι ότι καθώς επιστρέφεις στο άλμπουμ ανακαλύπτεις περισσότερα στοιχεία στα τραγούδια.

Χρειάζεται να γράψω περισσότερα; Νομίζω πως όχι. Μετά από τόσα χρόνια οι Evergrey δεν χρειάζεται να αποδείξουν τίποτα σε κανέναν, ωστόσο παραμένουν δημιουργικοί και τολμηροί και αυτό μας κάνει να τους αγαπάμε περισσότερο.

There are those of us who love EVERGREY ever since The Dark Discovery and there are those of you who are just getting into that unique mystique enchantment this band is capable of.  With a new label by their side (Napalm Records) the Swedish progsters set out for a new adventure to conquer new fans and celebrate their old ones through A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament).

And they do celebrate the closeness with their fans by making them part of two of their songs. Having reached new heights of popularity, EVERGREY are now making their stand by revisiting elements of their course throughout the years through a freshly gained dimension. The guitars are dominant and the drums fast and hard hitting and in this turbulence of riffing comes the sentimental, fragile voice of Tom Englund to carve its way to your core. The songs are both empowering and crushing as they can inspire you and cut deep at the same time. Melodies, which are always a key element in EVERGREY’s music are unraveling within rough riffing and the end result are songs that stick in your mind and are almost instantly attached to emotions, memories and moments. As I kept listening to the album before our interview with Tom, I caught myself waking up one morning singing Call Out The Dark (what a song!). Ever since Hymns For The Broken Evergrey have been growing bigger and bigger in terms of popularity. In terms of creativity, they have been growing strong since the very beginning. And us old fans, are glad to welcome all you newbies, who are just joining the ride.

A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) is the next challenge for the band. With songs like Call Out The Dark – I dare you to stop singing this song after listening to it- that speak directly to your heart, deep cuts like Ominous, Blindfolded, Reawakening (what wonderfully crafted vocal lines in this one) but also fast passed “progie” songs like the title track who bring to mind Monday Morning Apocalypse and Torn era A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) is bound to dominate your playlist for a long time. What’s striking is that as you return to the album you discover more elements in the songs.

Need I write more? I think not. After all these years EVERGREY need to prove nothing to no one yet they stay creative and daring and that makes us love them more.

Σε ανακοίνωσή του το συγκρότημα πριν από λίγο αναφέρει:

“Αγαπητοί φίλοι,
Ήρθε η ώρα για κάποια ιστορικά νέα για τους DRACONIAN. Μετά από μια δεκαετία και ένα χρόνο, με μεγάλο ενθουσιασμό καλωσορίζουμε τη Lisa Johansson πίσω στο συγκρότημα. Όπως οι περισσότεροι από εσάς γνωρίζετε, η Lisa ήταν η τραγουδίστρια μας στα πρώτα 5 ολοκληρωμένα άλμπουμ μας, αλλά η πρώτη της δουλειά μαζί μας ήταν για το 5ο και τελευταίο μας demo “Dark Oceans We Cry” που κυκλοφόρησε το 2002, οδηγώντας μας τελικά σε ένα δισκογραφικό συμβόλαιο με τη Napalm Records αργότερα εκείνη τη χρονιά. Παρόλα αυτά, είμαστε πολύ χαρούμενοι που ανακοινώνουμε ότι θα παίξουμε στο HELLFEST αυτό τον Ιούνιο ως 7μελής ειδική σύνθεση, με τη Lisa και τη Heike στη σκηνή. Draconian announce end of co operation with Heike Langhans and replacement by Lisa Johansson.

As they mention in their announcement: ” Dear friends, It is time for some historic news for DRACONIAN. After a decade and a year, it is with great excitement we welcome Lisa Johansson back into the band. As most of you know Lisa was our singer on our first 5 full-length albums, but her first work with us was for our 5th and final demo “Dark Oceans We Cry” which was released in 2002, finally leading us to a record deal with Napalm Records later that year. We have remained with them ever since.Heike Langhans will leave the band with a focus on family and her own musical projects. Although together arriving at this notion we are, needless to say, of course, sad to see her leave. With Heike, we have written and released two enigmatic, truly special albums held in much high regard all over the world. Heike and her voice with its spectacular presence and approach are a large part of that.

Yet, we are very much delighted to announce that we will play HELLFEST this June as a 7-piece special arrangement, with both Lisa and Heike on stage. This will be Heike’s final show with DRACONIAN and the perfect opportunity to pass back the torch to Lisa, shining bright together on what will be a very special occasion and at the largest metal festival on the planet. Here you’ll have the chance to firsthand experience songs from ‘Under A Godless Veil’ in this extraordinary setting. The full show will be streamed live and will also be available for viewing at a later date.We also would like to shed a light on the fact we’re working on songs for a new album, as well as a unique streaming show. Exciting times are ahead, so stay tuned for more news.

Heike comments: 10 years with any band is no small thing and I thank Draconian for the wonderful opportunities and challenges that made me confident in my path forward. The time has come for me to start a new chapter in music and life that requires my undivided focus.I’m so grateful to Lisa for being here to step in and seeing the old songs performed in the way they should be, will be as much of a treat for me as the rest of our listeners!Thank you for all the friends and supporting fans I met along the way. I have much more in store for you all this year, so please no sadness. I wish the band great success in 2022 and beyond!

Lisa comments: With great excitement, and with a humble heart I rejoin Draconian. I’m still a bit surprised that Johan called to ask me if I could consider touring with Draconian again. Μιλήσαμε με την τραγουδίστρια των Konvent για το δεύτερο άλμπουμ τους Call Down The Sun! Η Rikke μας μιλά για τη δημιουργία του άλμπουμ, τα φωνητικά της, τις επιρροές της και τα επερχόμενα σχέδιά τους

Αυτές οι κυρίες τα σπάνε από κάθε άποψη στον τρόπο που παρουσιάζουν τη μουσική τους, στον τρόπο που παίζουν και στον τρόπο που προσεγγίζουν τη μουσική δημιουργία. Στίχοι κοφτεροί σαν μαχαίρια, που δεν διστάζουν να ασχοληθούν με καθημερινά θέματα, κοινωνικά θέματα πράγματα που έχουν σημασία και όλοι μπορούν να ταυτιστούν. Από την πρώτη κιόλας φορά που άκουσα τις KONVENT μου έφεραν στο μυαλό τους BOLT THROWER αφού ο ήχος τους είναι τόσο ογκώδης και βάναυσος. BOLT THROWER με μια “doomish” sludge πινελιά και τον επιπλέον γυναικείο παράγοντα. Αυτές οι κυρίες δεν είναι εύθραυστες νεράιδες. Είναι πολεμίστριες, που γκρεμίζουν εμπόδια και τοίχους με τον συμπαγή ήχο τους. Με το Puritan Masochism τράβηξαν πάνω τους την προσοχή οπαδών και μουσικοκριτικών. Έτσι, τώρα που είχαν την προσοχή τους, έπρεπε να κάνουν μια δυνατή δήλωση με νόημα, και το Call Down The Sun είναι ακριβώς αυτό!

Like a force rising from a dark thick abyss of tribulation. A raw wave of anger, anguish and despair flooding into shore swiping everything on its way, dimming the sun and sinking it into darkness. That is the exact image that comes to mind when you listen to the second album of the Danish, black, doom with specks of sludge, all female band KONVENT, Call Down The Sun, which is out Friday March 11^th on Napalm Records!

These ladies kick some serious ass with every aspect there is into how they present their music, how the perform and how they approach music creation. Lyrics sharp like knives, who have no hesitation into dealing with everyday issues, social issues things that matter and everyone can relate. From the very first time I listened to KONVENTthey brought to mind BOLT THROWER since their sound is so vast and has such volume. BOLT THROWER with a “doomish” twist and the extra female factor. These ladies are no fragile fairies, they are warriors, breaking down barriers and walls with their crushing sound. With Puritan Masochism they drew the attention of fans and music critics upon them. So now that they got their attention they needed to make a loud meaningful statement, and Call Down The Sun is exactly that!

A meaningful punch to the gut, with heavy riffing, slow deep drums, sludge like growls and current lyrics. With songs like Grains, Harena (which includes violin and cello guest performance by Felix Havstad)- MY DYING BRIDE vibes, Into The Distance, Pipe Dreams and Fatamorgana, KONVENToffer a second album that not only stands up to the expectations their debut had created, but exceeds them. Excellent dark offering by KONVENT, definitely a strong candidate for the top 10 releases of 2022, and a must watch live material!

Englund, είναι γνωστοί για την περιπλάνηση στα πεδία του progressive και heavy μελωδικού metal και τη ζωγραφική ηχητικών αποδόσεων με τους δώδεκα στούντιο δίσκους τους που έχουν κυκλοφορήσει μέχρι σήμερα.
