Οι βρετανοί Paradise Lost ιδρύθηκαν στο Halifax του Δυτικού Yorkshire το 1988 και θεωρούνται από τους πρωτοπόρους του death-doom είδους, καθώς και η κύρια επιρροή για το μεταγενέστερο gothic metal κίνημα. Εγώ τους ανακάλυψα το 2001 στην τρυφερή ηλικία των 19 ετών, ακούγοντας το Just Say Words και από κει και μετά ουσιαστικά μεγάλωσα μαζί τους. Από το 1988 οι Paradise Lost έχουν δημιουργήσει κάποια από τα πιο μελαγχολικά και σκυθρωπά riffs που έχουν κυκλοφορήσει εκεί έξω ενώ δεν έχουν φοβηθεί να πειραματιστούν αποδεικνύοντας έμπρακτα ότι αρνούνται να παραμείνουν στάσιμοι.

Το Ascension είναι το 17ο full studio album των Paradise Lost, κυκλοφόρησε στις 19 Σεπτεμβρίου από την Nuclear Blast Records και μετά από πολλές ακροάσεις νομίζω πως έχει αρκετό misery, doom and sorrow ώστε να αποτελεί μία εξαιρετική προσθήκη στην ήδη πανέμορφη δισκοκραφία των Paradise Lost.

Από τις πρώτες νότες του εναρκτήριου κομματιού Serpent On The Cross παίρνουμε ακριβώς αυτό που θέλουμε: τη σκοτεινή μεγαλοπρέπεια των Paradise Lost. Mία σαγηνευτική και μελαγχολική doom μελωδία, που γρήγορα αλλάζει και σε τυλίγει με thundering riffs και βαρύγδουπο drumming, που φυσικά κρατάει το doom & misery της υπόθεσης στην θέση του, και με τον Nick Holmes να ρίχνει μια ηλιαχτίδα φωτός (ή μπορεί και όχι) στο σκοτάδι μας τραγουδώντας “…your lonely soul will rot”! Αλλά τέτοιοι είμαστε και τέτοια θέλουμε! Keep the doom coming Νικολάκη μας!

Θα ήθελα να σταθώ λίγο στo Salvation. A Paradise Lost golden classic διάρκειας 7 λεπτών. Μελαχγολική αίγλη με καμπάνες και κοράκια να κραυγάζουν στην εισαγωγή, μελαγχολικά αρμονικά σόλο και απελπισμένα γρυλίσματα να δημιουργούν μια θλιβερή και σκοτεινή ατμόσφαιρα. Προς το ρεφραίν αρχίζεις να ελπίζεις πως ίσως το φως έρχεται να σε διαπεράσει, με τον Nick Holmes να γίνεται πιο ενθαρρυντικός με τα καθαρά φωνητικά του, αλλά μην ελπίζεις και πολύ…γιατί αυτό οδηγεί σε ένα τεράστιο κρεσέντο με την φωνή του Nick να γίνεται και πάλι απελπισμένη επικαλύποντας καταιγιστικότατα riffs και καταλήγοντας σ’ ενα υπέροχο μελωδικό σόλο και κατ’ ευθείαν πάλι μέσα στην κατάθλιψη. Ένα βροντερό πένθιμο άσμα το οποίο όπως διάβασα κάπου και νομίζω δεν θα μπορούσα να το διατυπώσω καλύτερα, ανασταίνει όλα τα παλιά φαντάσματα των Paradise Lost (και κατά μεγάλη πιθανότητα και τα δικά σου).

Όμως το Ascension  έχει περισσότερα από ένα highlights και είναι διαδοχικά τοποθετημένα ώστε να ενθαρρύνουν την πλήρη αναπαραγωγή του δίσκου αντί για το στίβαγμα των πιο “δυνατών” στην αρχή. Για παράδειγμα, το πομπώδες και γοητευτικότατο Diluvium βρίσκεται ανάμεσα στα Lay A Wreath Upon The World και Savage Days τα οποία αποτελούν τις πιο ήπιες στιγμές του Ascension, χωρίς όμως να τους λείπει η δυναμική και οι απροσδότηκες ανατροπές ενισχύοντας έτσι την αίσθηση της ροής στο άλμπουμ. To Savage Days θα σε πάει σίγουρα στο memory lane του One Second (1997) και το Sirens που το ακολουθεί, μοιάζει ανά στιγμές σα να παντρέυτηκαν οι Depeche Mode με τους Metallica in a Paradise Lost kinda way.

Αλλά δεν πρόκειται μόνο για τα μεμονωμένα κομμάτια αφού το Ascension είναι θεωρώ ένα συνεχόμενο μουσικό ταξίδι. Υπάρχει μια παλίρροια και μια άμπωτη στην ακολουθία των κομματιών που δείχνει την κατανόηση της μπάντας για τη δυναμική και το ρυθμό. Τα καταθλιπτικά περάσματα έχουν χώρο να αναπνεύσουν, επιτρέποντας την πλήρη συναισθηματική τους επίδραση να προσγειωθεί και να καταλαγιάσει, ενώ οι πιο επιθετικές στιγμές χτυπούν με χειρουργική ακρίβεια.

Τα φωνητικά του Nick Holmes είναι ένα πολύ δυνατό σημείο του άλμπουμ, εξαιρετικός και πιο πολύπλευρος από ποτέ. Ο Aaron Aedy και ο Greg Macintosh ξεπερνούν τους εαυτούς τους γεμίζοντας το Ascension με μια συλλογή υψηλής ποιότητας riffs, με ελκυστικά lead, θλιβερές αρμονίες και τα συναισθηματικά σόλο. Τα ντραμς και το μπάσο παρέχουν σταθερά θεμέλια, εξασφαλίζοντας την πυκνότητα και τον εναλασσόμενο αλλά ακούραστο ρυθμό του άλμπουμ.

Το Ascension δεν είναι κάποια επαναστατική μουσική ανακάλυψη, μια δραματική αλλαγή ή κάποια τεράστια καινοτομία, αλλά μια όμορφη φυσική εξέλιξη. Δεν είναι το Icon ούτε το Draconian Times (όπως πολλοί σχολίασαν), αλλά γιατί να είναι; Και αν με ρωτάτε δεν θα ήθελα να είναι ούτε το ένα ούτε το άλλο. They have been there, done that και έδειξαν ήδη τον δρόμο και τον τρόπο σε αναρίθμητες μπάντες που ακολούθησαν.

Το Ascension είναι θλίψη, επιβλητικά riffs, γοτθική μεγαλοπρέπεια και αδιαμφισβήτητη μελαγχολία. Είναι όλες οι στιγμές, οι πληγές και τα φαντάσματα των τελευταίων τεσσάρων δεκαετιών. Είναι το έργο μία μπάντας που νιώθει άνετα με τον εαυτό της, που αγκαλιάζει το παρελθόν με ανοιχτό μυαλό και συνεχίζει να μην μένει στάσιμη. Είναι μία συλλογή των καλύτερων στοιχείων που έχουν καθορίσει τον ήχο των Paradise Lost για σχεδόν τέσσερις δεκαετίες, φτιαγμένη με την αντίστοιχη ωριμότητα.

Χαίρομαι αφάνταστα όταν μία μπάντα που ακούω ασταμάτητα τα τελευταία 24 χρονιά συνεχίζει να με εκπλήσσει. Οι Paradise Lost επιστρέφουν υφαίνοντας μελωδίες που εισχωρούν βαθιά στο μυαλό και την ψυχή σου και αρνούνται να φύγουν. Ένα πολύ δυνατό άλμπουμ σε έναν ήδη επιβλητικό κατάλογο μιας σπουδαίας μπάντας. And this looks like Ascension to me!

Founded in Halifax, West Yorkshire, in 1988, Paradise Lost are considered pioneers of the death-doom genre and a major influence on the later gothic metal movement. I discovered them in 2001 at the tender age of 19 while listening to Just Say Words, and since then I haven’t done life without them. Since 1988, Paradise Lost have created some of the most melancholic and gloomy riffs ever released, while not being afraid to experiment, proving in concrete terms that they refuse to remain stagnant.

Ascension is Paradise Lost’s 17th full studio album, released on September 19th  by Nuclear Blast Records, and after many spins, I think it has enough misery, doom, and sorrow to be an excellent addition to Paradise Lost’s already beautiful discography.

From the first notes of the opening track, Serpent On The Cross, we get exactly what we want: the dark grandeur of Paradise Lost. A captivating and melancholic doom melody, which quickly changes and envelops you with thundering riffs and heavy drumming, which of course keeps the doom & misery of the story in place, with Nick Holmes throwing a ray of light (or not) into our darkness by singing “…your lonely soul will rot”! But hey, this is who we are and that’s how we want it! Keep the doom coming, Nikolakis!

I would like to touch on Salvation for a moment. A golden Paradise Lost classic lasting 7 minutes. Melancholic glamour with bells and crows crying out in the intro, melancholic harmonic solos and desperate growls creating a sad and dark atmosphere. Towards the chorus, you start to hope that maybe the light is coming through, with Nick Holmes becoming more hopeful with his clean vocals, but don’t get your hopes up too much… because this leads to a huge crescendo with Nick’s voice becoming desperate again, overlapping with stormy riffs and ending in a wonderful melodic solo and straight back into depression. A thunderous funeral song which, as I read somewhere and I don’t think I could put it better myself, resurrects all the old ghosts of Paradise Lost (and most likely yours too).

But Ascension has more than one highlight, and they are arranged in sequence to encourage listening to the entire album rather than skipping to the “strongest” tracks. For example, the punchy and super charming Diluvium is between Lay A Wreath Upon The World and Savage Days, which are the mellowest moments in Ascension, but without losing any of their energy and unexpected twists, making the album feel more fluid throughout. Savage Days will definitely take you down the One Second (1997) memory lane, and Sirens, which follows, at times sounds like Depeche Mode married Metallica in a Paradise Lost kinda way.

But it’s not just about the individual tracks, as Ascension is, in my opinion, a sustained musical journey. There is a ebb and flow to the sequence of tracks that demonstrates the band’s understanding of dynamics and rhythm. The more depressing passages have room to breathe, allowing their full emotional impact to land and settle, while the more aggressive moments strike with surgical precision.

Nick Holmes’ vocals are a very strong point of the album, excellent and more versatile than ever. Aaron Aedy and Greg Macintosh surpass themselves, filling Ascension with a collection of high-quality riffs, attractive leads, mournful harmonies, and emotional solos. The drums and bass provide a solid foundation, ensuring the album’s density and alternating but tireless rhythm.

Ascension is neither a revolutionary musical discovery, a dramatic change or a tremendous breakthrough, but a beautiful natural evolution. It is neither Icon nor Draconian Times (as many have commented), but why should it be? And if you ask me, I wouldn’t want it to be either one or the other. They have been there, done that and they have already shown the way to countless bands that followed.

Ascension is sadness, sweeping riffs, gothic grandeur, and undeniable melancholy. It is all the moments, wounds, and ghosts of the last four decades. It is the work of a band that is comfortable with itself, that embraces the past with an open mind and continues to move forward. It is a collection of the best elements that have defined Paradise Lost’s sound for almost four decades, crafted with the corresponding maturity.

It brings me great joy when a band that I have been listening to non-stop for the last 24 years continues to surprise me. Paradise Lost returns with melodies that deeply resonate in your mind and soul and refuse to leave. A very strong album in an already impressive catalogue of a great and very important band. And this looks like Ascension to me!

Αν κάνετε το λάθος και δείτε το υπέροχο εξώφυλλο του UNATØNED, που μοιάζει να είναι συνέχεια του εξώφυλλου του προηγούμενου πολύ πετυχημένου άλμπουμ τους ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN, και περιμένετε να ακούσετε κάτι αντίστοιχο ή παρεμφερές με τον ήχο του ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN, θα απογοητευτείτε. Για την ακρίβεια, όσο και αν ψάξετε στην πλούσια και πολύ αξιόλογη δισκογραφία των MACHINE HEAD, δεν πρόκειται να βρείτε κάποιο άλμπουμ που να σας θυμίζει, ούτε στο ελάχιστο, αυτό που θα ακούσετε στο UNATØNED. Αυτό βέβαια σε καμία περίπτωση δεν πρέπει να σας αποθαρρύνει ως προς την ακρόαση του άλμπουμ. Γιατί φανταστείτε πόσο προβλέψιμο και ίσως για κάποιους από εσάς, ανιαρό, θα ήταν να ακούγατε μια νέα δουλειά από το αγαπημένο σας συγκρότημα που θα θύμιζε μια από τις δέκα προηγούμενες του δουλειές. Θα μου πείτε τώρα, αυτό δεν είναι κακό. Ιδιαίτερα όταν μιλάμε για ένα συγκρότημα σαν τους MACHINE HEAD. Σίγουρα δεν είναι. Όμως, μετά από τριάντα χρόνια πετυχημένης δισκογραφικής πορείας, η απόφαση να φτιάξεις ένα άλμπουμ που δεν θυμίζει σε τίποτα τα προηγούμενα μπορεί να κριθεί, αν μη τι άλλο, γενναία. Και χρησιμοποιώ τη λέξη γενναία γιατί σίγουρα πρέπει να έχεις μεγάλη αυτοπεποίθηση για να πιστέψεις ότι θα τα καταφέρεις.

Οι MACHINE HEAD, πολύ ορθά κατά την ταπεινή μου γνώμη, προχωρούν στο UNATØNED μπροστά κοιτάζοντας ελάχιστα πίσω. Τόσο όσο πρέπει. Και γιατί το κάνουν αυτό; Πολύ απλά, γιατί μπορούν.

Το UNATØNED είναι ένα άλμπουμ εμπνευσμένο από την τελευταία λέξη του σύγχρονου metal ήχου. Δεν σας κρύβω ότι στο πρώτο του άκουσμα μου φάνηκε πολύ παράξενο για MACHINE HEAD άλμπουμ. Από το δεύτερο όμως άκουσμα και μετά άρχισα πραγματικά να το απολαμβάνω. Λατρεύω τα άλμπουμ που τα ακούω και ο χρόνος κυλάει σαν νερό. Και το UNATØNED είναι σίγουρα ένα από αυτά. Οι γκρούβες του, τα blast beats του, τα riffs του και οι εκρηκτικές ερμηνείες του Robb Flynn είναι δεμένα στις φόρμες και τη φιλοσοφία του σύγχρονου metal ήχου. Με διάρκεια γύρω στα τριάμισι λεπτά το κάθε κομμάτι (εκτός από το Bleeding Me Dry που είναι γύρω στα πεντέμισι λεπτά) και με δομή σύνθεσης τέτοια που θέλει να σε διασκεδάσει χωρίς να σε κουράσει, το UNATØNED, ιδιαίτερα αν είσαι νέος σε ηλικία, μπορεί και να γίνει το soundtrack του φετινού σου καλοκαιριού. Αν πάλι είσαι μεγαλύτερος και πέτυχες τους MACHINE HEAD στο σπουδαίο ξεκίνημα τους ή στις μετέπειτα φοβερές κυκλοφορίες τους, δεν έχεις παρά να κρίνεις αυτό που ακούς. Γιατί μπορεί να σου αρέσει, μπορεί και όχι.

Η προσωπική μου άποψη, και πάντοτε κρίνοντας από το πόσο με έλκει ένα άλμπουμ να το ακούσω ξανά και ξανά, είναι ότι το UNATØNED είναι σίγουρα ένα τολμηρό βήμα για ένα τόσο καταξιωμένο συγκρότημα όπως οι MACHINE HEAD, σε μονοπάτια που δεν είχαν βαδίσει πριν. Είναι όμως φορές σαν αυτή που ακούγοντας ένα άλμπουμ νοιώθω τον δυνατό αέρα της ανανέωσης και την αύρα της ζωντάνιας και της αλλαγής να με αγκαλιάζει τόσο σφιχτά, που αυτό από μόνο του, είναι λόγος να το αγαπήσω.

It’s rare that a band with almost thirty years of successful recordings decides to make an album that literally doesn’t resemble anything of their previous releases. And to be more specific, UNATØNED differs from every previous work of MACHINE HEAD in terms of the philosophy of composition, in terms of the length of the tracks and in terms of the musical direction the band decides to follow in the wider field of metal sound.

If you make the mistake of looking at the beautiful cover of UNATØNED, which seems to be a continuation of the cover of their previous very successful album ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN, and expect to hear something similar or similar to the sound of ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN, you will be disappointed. In fact, no matter how much you search through MACHINE HEAD’s rich and very remarkable discography, you will not find any album that reminds you, not in the least, of what you will hear on UNATØØNED. This, of course, should in no way discourage you from listening to the album. Because imagine how predictable and maybe for some of you, boring, it would be to listen to a new work from your favourite band that would remind you of one of their ten previous works. You’ll tell me now, that’s not a bad thing. Especially when we are talking about a band like MACHINE HEAD. It certainly isn’t. But, after thirty years of a successful recording career, the decision to make an album that doesn’t resemble anything of the previous ones can be considered, if anything, brave. And I use the word brave because you certainly have to be very confident to believe that you can do it.

MACHINE HEAD, very rightly in my humble opinion, move forward in UNATØNED, looking back a little. As much as they should. And why do they do this? Quite simply, because they can.

UNATØNED is an album inspired by the latest in modern metal sound. I won’t hide from you that on first listen it seemed very strange for a MACHINE HEAD album. But from the second listen onward I really started to enjoy it. I love albums that I listen to and time flows like water. And UNATØNED is definitely one of them. Its grooves, its blast beats, its riffs and Robb Flynn’s explosive performances are tied to the forms and philosophy of the modern metal sound. With a duration of around three and a half minutes per track (except for Bleeding Me Dry which is around five and a half minutes) and with a compositional structure that wants to entertain you without tiring you, UNATØNED, especially if you are young in age, can be the soundtrack of your summer this year. If you’re older and caught MACHINE HEAD in their great beginning or their later great releases, you have no choice but to judge what you’re listening to. Because you might like it, you might not.

My personal opinion, and always judging by how much I’m drawn to listen to an album over and over again, is that UNATØNED is definitely a bold step for such an established band like MACHINE HEAD, in paths they hadn’t walked before. But it’s times like this when listening to an album that I feel the strong air of renewal and the aura of vitality and change embrace me so tightly, that that in itself is reason to love it.

Σίγουρα δεν είμαι εγώ αυτός που θα σας πει ποιοι είναι οι Benediction. Οι περισσότεροι από εσάς θα ξέρετε. Και αν δε ξέρετε, νομίζω, ότι καλό θα ήταν να τους ανακαλύπτατε. Αν σας αρέσει ο ακραίος metal ήχος, ίσως οι Benediction να γίνουν ένα από τα αγαπημένα σας συγκροτήματα.

Το Scriptures του 2020 ήταν ένα πολύ καλό άλμπουμ. Η επιστροφή του Dave Ingram στη φωνή των  Benediction  σε αυτό το άλμπουμ πυροδότησε ένα εκκριτικό μείγμα Death Metal  κόλασης, που συνεχίζεται με ακόμα μεγαλύτερη ένταση στο Ravage of Empires, που κυκλοφόρησε στις 4 του Απρίλη του 2025 από την Nuclear Blast Records.

Ένδεκα τραγούδια δυναμίτες που συντρίβουν οτιδήποτε συμβατικό στο πέρασμα τους. Αμάσητο Death Metal με φονικές κιθάρες, καταστροφικά riffs και drums που σπέρνουν τον όλεθρο. Ο στίχος είναι χαοτικός και για να είμαι ειλικρινής όχι του γούστου μου, όμως θα ήταν ψέμα αν έλεγα, ότι δεν κουμπώνει τέλεια με τον ισοπεδωτικό ήχο  που χαρακτηρίζει τούτο εδώ το άλμπουμ. Εννοείται σε τέτοια ακούσματα δεν μας περισσεύει χρόνος για φιλοσοφίες, προβληματισμούς και άλλα τέτοια. Εδώ γίνεται μάχη. Και ο σώζων εαυτόν σωθήτω. Από το εναρκτήριο λάκτισμα του A Carrion Harvest μέχρι την τελειωτική βολή  του ομότιτλου Ravage of Empires το μακελειό δε σταματά ούτε δευτερόλεπτο. Και για να είμαι ειλικρινής, πιστεύω ότι έτσι πρέπει να είναι το Death Metal που φέρει το όνομα των Benediction. Αδυσώπητο και χωρίς οίκτο.

Εννοείται ότι δε θα σας περιγράψω τα τραγούδια γιατί όπως όλοι γνωρίζουμε εν έτη 2025 ο καθένας μπορεί να βρει το official streaming της κάθε νέας κυκλοφορίας και να ακούσει με τα ίδια του τα αυτιά αυτό για το οποίο εγώ γράφω. Να το ακούσει και να αποφασίσει, αν του αρέσει ή όχι. Γιατί περί ορέξεως ουδείς λόγος. Και συν τοις άλλοις, you have to trust yourself like nobody else σε θέματα μουσικού γούστου, που λέει και ο λαός.

Αυτό όμως που οφείλω να σας πω είναι ότι κατά το προσωπικό μου γούστο τέτοια άλμπουμ τα ακούς και εύχεσαι να μην τελειώσουν. Και όταν τελειώσουν, θα πατήσεις το play και θα ξεκινήσουν ξανά ή θα σηκωθείς από εκεί που κάθεσαι και θα βάλεις τη βελόνα στο δίσκο για να τον ξανακούσεις, μέχρι να τον λιώσεις.

Before I start writing anything about Ravage of Empires, I have to warn you that I don’t belong to the hard core of Death Metal fans. To be honest my very favorite bands belong to the Black genre, not Death. Benediction along with some other Death Metal bands are an exception.
I’m certainly not the one to tell you who Benediction is. Most of you will know. And if you don’t know, I think, it would be a good thing to discover them. If you like extreme metal sound, Benediction might become one of your favorite bands.

2020’s Scriptures was a very good album. The return of Dave Ingram on Benediction’s vocals on that album sparked a secretive mix of Death Metal hell, which continues with even more intensity on Ravage of Empires, released on April 4, 2025 by Nuclear Blast Records.

Eleven songs of dynamite that crush anything conventional in their path. Unapologetic Death Metal with killer guitars, devastating riffs and drums that wreak havoc. The lyrics are chaotic and to be honest not to my taste, but I would be lying if I said, that it doesn’t fit perfectly with the flattening sound that characterizes this album. It goes without saying that in such sounds we don’t have time for philosophies, reflections and other things like that.

There is a battle going on here. And may he who saves himself be saved. From the opening kick of A Carrion Harvest to the final shot of the title track Ravage of Empires the carnage doesn’t stop for a second. And to be honest, I think that’s what the Death Metal that bears the Benediction name should be like. Unrelenting and without mercy.

Of course I won’t describe the songs because as we all know in 2025 everyone can find the official streaming of every new release and listen with their own ears to what I’m writing about. To listen to it and decide if he likes it or not. Because there is no question of appetite. And on top of that, you have to trust yourself like nobody else in matters of musical taste, as the saying goes.

But what I have to tell you is that in my personal taste you listen to such albums and wish they would never end. And when they are over, you press play and they start again, or you get up from where you’re sitting and stick the needle in the record and listen to it again until you melt it down.

Δεν μιλάμε για μια απλή εξέλιξη του ήχου των EPICA, αλλά για μια αναγέννηση του μέσα από τις ρίζες του, με φοβερά πετυχημένο αποτέλεσμα. Πρόκειται για ένα εκπληκτικό άλμπουμ με έντεκα συνθέσεις που δεν χορταίνεις να ακούς. Τρομερά ξεκούραστο άκουσμα με έντονη συναισθηματική φόρτιση και υποδειγματική ενορχήστρωση και παραγωγή. Χωρίς συνθετική φλυαρία αλλά με αξιοζήλευτο συνθετικό βάθος. Οι συνθέσεις θα αγγίξουν όχι μόνο τους οπαδούς του συμφωνικού metal, αλλά όλους όσους αγαπάνε τη μουσική, τη μελωδία και το όνειρο.

Οι EPICA με το Aspiral δεν ακολουθούν την πολύ πετυχημένη συνταγή των προηγούμενων άλμπουμ τους. Αλλάζουν τη φιλοσοφία στη σύνθεση και την πολυπλοκότητα του ήχου τους και ουσιαστικά προσαρμόζουν τις όποιες prog τάσεις τους χαρακτηρίζουν, στην κατεύθυνση του λυρισμού, της αμεσότητας και του συναισθήματος. Διατηρούν την ορχήστρα και την χορωδία που είναι η ψυχή τους και φτιάχνουν τραγούδια που όλα μαζί και το κάθε ένα ξεχωριστά μπορούν να κατακτήσουν και τον πιο αμύητο στο metal (πόσο μάλλον στο symphonic metal) ακροατή.

Η επιλογή του τίτλου του άλμπουμ είναι ενδεικτική της παραπάνω νέας φιλοσοφίας στον ήχο του συγκροτήματος. Ο τίτλος Aspiral είναι εμπνευσμένος από το ομώνυμο χάλκινο γλυπτό του 1965 του Πολωνού γλύπτη και ζωγράφου Stanisław Szukalski. Το χάλκινο αγαλματίδιο με τη γυμνή κοπέλα, που αναδύεται μέσα από τη γεμάτη λεπτομέρεια και συμβολισμό βάση του και απλώνει τα χέρια της προς το ουράνιο άπειρο, αποτελεί καλλιτεχνική απεικόνιση του τρίπτυχου “Spire – Aspire – Inspire”. Στην ανακοίνωση για την επικείμενη κυκλοφορία του άλμπουμ μέσω της επίσημης σελίδας της δισκογραφικής εταιρίας Nuclear Blast Records, έγινε γνωστό ότι το έργο αυτό του Stanisław Szukalski αντιπροσωπεύει την ανανέωση και την έμπνευση – λέξεις κλειδιά- που προσδιορίζουν τους EPICA του 2025.

Το εντυπωσιακό εξώφυλλο του άλμπουμ είναι δουλειά του βραβευμένου εικαστικού και γλύπτη Hedi Xandt γνωστού από τις συνεργασίες του με τους Rammstein, τους Ghost και τους Parkway Drive. Όπως θα παρατηρήσατε είναι η πρώτη φορά που δεν εμφανίζεται το όνομα των EPICA και ο τίτλος του άλμπουμ στο εξώφυλλο. Ο Hedi Xandt έχει πει στην

επίσημη σελίδα του στο instragram για το συγκεκριμένο εξώφυλλο, μεταξύ άλλων, ότι: “Όπως η μουσική των EPICA χτίζει κόσμους μέσα σε κόσμους έτσι και αυτό το έργο τέχνης δεν είναι απλώς ένα εξώφυλλο, αλλά μια πύλη — ένας ψίθυρος από το απέραντο άγνωστο, που μας καλεί μπροστά”.

Οι ένδεκα συνθέσεις του Aspiral είναι ένα πολύ προσεκτικά φτιαγμένο μείγμα σκληρού ήχου, αιθέριων φωνητικών, συνοδευτικών brutal φωνητικών, ορχήστρας, χορωδίας και φιλοσοφικής αναζήτησης. Σχετικά με την ιδέα του Mark Jansen για τη συνέχιση της A New Age Dawns saga και σε αυτό εδώ το άλμπουμ, (θυμίζουμε ότι τα τρία πρώτα μέρη της πρωτοεμφανίστηκαν στο άλμπουμ Consign to Oblivion του 2005 και συνεχίστηκε στο άλμπουμ Design Your Universe του 2009 με τα τρία επόμενα μέρη της ) η Simone Simons σε μια πρόσφατη συνέντευξη της, δήλωσε: “Ουσιαστικά με λίγα λόγια απλά καταλήγουμε στο ότι, βρισκόμαστε στο τέλος της αλλαγής στη συνείδησή μας όπου πρέπει όλοι να βρεθούμε μαζί σε αυτόν τον χαοτικό κόσμο για να προσπαθήσουμε να αλλάξουμε τα πράγματα προς το καλύτερο.”

Σε έναν Κόσμο, που βρίσκεται ίσως στην πιο κρίσιμη καμπή της μεταπολεμικής του Ιστορίας, οι Ολλανδοί EPICA παραδίδουν ένα ξεχωριστό album συμφωνικού metal, γεμάτο τέχνη, ελπίδα, φιλοσοφία, προοπτική και πρόκληση. Όπως αναγράφεται στο inlay του πρώτου δίσκου από το διπλό βινύλιο του Aspiral:

EPICA return with their ninth album, which will be released on April 11th via Nuclear Blast Records. Joost van den Broek remains firmly behind the sound production, while the band’s line-up is the same as on their previous album, Omega, from 2021. The album is titled Aspiral and in every respect it’s a decisive step forward for the much-loved Dutchmen.

We’re not talking about a mere evolution of EPICA’s sound, but a rebirth of it from its roots, with a tremendously successful result. This is an amazing album with eleven compositions that you can’t get enough of listening to. Terribly relaxing listening with a strong emotional charge and exemplary instrumentation and production. Without compositional chatter but with enviable compositional depth. The compositions will touch not only the fans of symphonic metal, but all those who love music, melody and dream.

EPICA with Aspiral don’t follow the very successful recipe of their previous albums. They change the philosophy in the composition and complexity of their sound and essentially adapt any prog tendencies that characterize them, in the direction of lyricism, immediacy and emotion. They keep the orchestra and choir that is their soul and make songs that all together and each one individually can conquer even the most uninitiated metal (let alone symphonic metal) listener.

The choice of the album’s title is indicative of the above new philosophy in the band’s sound. The title Aspiral is inspired by the 1965 bronze sculpture of the same name by Polish sculptor and painter Stanisław Szukalski. The bronze statuette of a naked girl, emerging from its detailed and symbolic base and extending her arms towards the celestial infinite, is an artistic representation of the triptych “Spire – Aspire – Inspire”. In the announcement of the upcoming release of the album via the official website of the record label Nuclear Blast Records, it was made known that this project by Stanisław Szukalski represents renewal and inspiration – key words – that define EPICA of 2025.

The album’s impressive cover is the work of award-winning artist and sculptor Hedi Xandt known for his collaborations with Rammstein, Ghost and Parkway Drive. As you may have noticed, it’s the first time that EPICA’s name and the album title don’t appear on the cover. Hedi Xandt has said in

official instragram page about this cover, among other things, that: “Just as EPICA’s music builds worlds within worlds, this artwork is not just a cover, but a portal – a whisper from the vast unknown, calling us forward.”

Aspiral’s eleven compositions are a very carefully crafted blend of hard sound, ethereal vocals, accompanying brutal vocals, orchestra, choir and philosophical quest. Regarding Mark Jansen’s idea of continuing the A New Age Dawns saga on this album, (we recall that the first three parts first appeared on the 2005 album Consign to Oblivion and continued on the 2009 album Design Your Universe with the next three parts ) Simone Simons in a recent interview stated: “Basically in a nutshell it just comes down to, we’re at the end of the change in our consciousness where we all have to come together in this chaotic world to try and change things for the better.”

In a world that is perhaps at the most critical turning point in its post-war history, the Dutch EPICA deliver a unique album of symphonic metal, full of art, hope, philosophy, perspective and challenge. As stated on the inlay of the first album from Aspiral’s double vinyl:

Four years after the release of The Ghost of Orion, British death-doom metal wizards, My Dying Bride, have announced the release of their 15th studio album, A Mortal Binding, which is expected to be released on April 19th via Nuclear Blast. Today, My Dying Bride released the first sample from the upcoming A Mortal Binding, which goes by the name Thornwyck Hymn and is accompanied by a stunning video directed by Daniel Gray, illustrating a maritime story of evolving desire and tragedy.

Δεν εγκαταλείπουν βέβαια την “comfort zone” τους, αλλά επιστρέφουν στον ήχο που τους έκανε το συγκρότημα που αγαπούν οι οπαδοί τους. Ωμά, γρήγορα, κοφτερά riffs και εκρηκτικό drumming σηματοδοτούν τον ήχο του Goliath και τον κάνουν να ταιριάζει απόλυτα με μια γερή δόση αδρεναλίνης, ακριβώς το είδος που χρειάζεσαι για να ανεβάσεις πίεση.

Δημιουργημένοι το 1992 στο Μόντρεαλ του Κεμπέκ του Καναδά, οι KATAKLYSM κυκλοφορούν το 15ο στούντιο άλμπουμ τους και παραμένουν επίκαιροι σαν να μην έχουν περάσει 30 χρόνια από τότε που ξεκίνησαν. Σε παραγωγή του François Dagenais, με τον Colin Richardson (Carcass, Machine Head, Overkill, Trivium, κ.α.), ο ήχος είναι μοντέρνος και heavy, διατηρώντας παράλληλα την ωμότητα που χαρακτηρίζει το στυλ-σήμα κατατεθέν τους. Το artwork έγινε από τον Eliran Kantor (Kreator, Helloween, Testament μεταξύ άλλων).

Οπότε, για να τα συνοψίσουμε όλα και να φτάσουμε στην ουσία, μου αρέσει το Goliath; Το συνιστώ; Η ταχύτητα και τα εκρηκτικά ξεσπάσματα σε συνδυασμό με τα groove, mid tempo μελωδικά μέρη θυμίζουν τους παλιούς καλούς KATAKLYSM. Η παραγωγή είναι εξαίσια αλλά δεν είναι τόσο βίαιη όσο οι πρώτες τους κυκλοφορίες. Παρόλα αυτά έχει πολλά σημεία μέσα του, και σε μια συνολική εκτίμηση είναι ένας καλός δίσκος – κατά τη γνώμη μου καλύτερος από το Unconquered.

Back to basics! That was the first thought that popped into mind when I started listening to KATAKLYSM’s new album “Goliath” out now on Nuclear Blast Records. The Canadian death metallers have been silent since 2020’s “Unconquered”.  Three weeks before the album’s release, the band announced drummer Oli Beaudoin had left the band and was replaced by James Payne, and the difference is quite notable. So “Goliath” is the first release with their new line up and it is refreshingly brutal and it reminds us of the blasting fast sound that made us like them in the first place.

They are not stepping out of their “comfort-zone” but they are returning to the sound that made them the band their fans love. Raw, fast, sharp riffs and blasting drumming marks the sound of Goliath and makes it a perfect fit to a heavy dose of adrenaline, just the kind you need to get your blood pumping.

Born in 1992 in Montreal, Québec, Canada, KATAKLYSM are offering their 15^th studio album and they remain current like it’s not been 30 years since they started. Self-produced by François Dagenais, with Colin Richardson (Carcass, Machine Head, Overkill, Trivium, etc), the sound is modern and heavy while maintaining a rawness that marks their trademark style. The artwork was done by Eliran Kantor (Kreator, Helloween, Testament among others).

So, to sum it all up and get to the bottom line, do I like Goliath? Do I recommend it? The speed and the exploding outbursts combined with groove, mid tempo melodic parts remind us of the good old KATAKLYSM. The production is exquisite yet it is not as violent as their early releases. However it has many parts in it, and in an overall view it is a good album – in my opinion better than Unconquered.

Προλογίζοντας την νέα τους κυκλοφορία, το συγκρότημα δημοσίευσε το πρώτο single/video clip για το κομμάτι In Abeyance.

Ο frontman του συγκροτήματος Matt McGachy σχολίασε:

“Είμαι ενθουσιασμένος που επιτέλους αποκαλύπτω το As Gomorrah Burns. Είναι ένα άλμπουμ που ετοιμάζαμε τα τελευταία πέντε χρόνια. Μια σχολαστική προσπάθεια για την οποία είμαστε περήφανοι. Είναι το τέλειο medley των oldschool CRYPTOPSY με μερικές σύγχρονες ανατροπές. Έχουμε ακουμπήσει πολύ στα grooves και έχουμε αφήσει μερικά από τα riffs να αναπνεύσουν λίγο περισσότερο απ’ ό,τι στις προηγούμενες κυκλοφορίες. Είμαι πραγματικά ενθουσιασμένος για τη νέα εποχή των CRYPTOPSY.

Το In Abeyance αφορά εννοιολογικά το αίσθημα της απομόνωσης ενώ βυθίζεται σε ένα νέο περιβάλλον. Το κυνήγι της αίσθησης του ανήκειν, ενώ πενθεί μια προηγούμενη ζωή. Μουσικά, είναι ένα χαστούκι στο πρόσωπο. Είναι ένα banger που φαίνεται να είναι απλό αλλά παραμένει εξαιρετικά πολύπλοκο”.

After 11 years of recording absence, CRYPTOPSY return with a new album. The title of this, As Gomorrah Burns and is due out on September 8th via Nuclear Blast Records.

In anticipation of the new release, the band has posted the first single/video clip for the track In Abeyance.

The band’s frontman Matt McGachy commented:

“I’m excited to finally unveil As Gomorrah Burns. It’s an album that we have been crafting for the past five years. A meticulous endeavor that we are proud of. It’s the perfect medley of oldschool CRYPTOPSY with a few modern twists. We’ve leaned heavily into the grooves and let some of the riffs breathe just a little more than we have on the past few releases. I’m really stoked about the new era of CRYPTOPSY.

In Abeyance’ is conceptually about feeling isolated while being submerged in a new environment. The hunt for a sense of belonging while mourning a previous life. Musically, it’s a slap in the face. It’s a banger that appears to be straightforward yet remains ultra complex”.

The release of SYLOSIS‘ new album, A Sign of Things to Come, is set for September 8th via Nuclear Blast. Continuing to prepare the ground, the band has posted another single/video clip for the track Poison For The Lost.

Regarding their new album, the band’s guitarist and vocalist Josh Middleton commented:

“This has been a homecoming for me, in many ways! We’re confident that we’ve created something special with our new record and we can’t wait for you to hear the new music over coming months ahead of the release in September. This is the first time I’ve allowed myself to be produced; taking on some brutal criticism and pushing myself to deliver the best vocal performance of my career. I’m a big fan of progressive and long albums, but I was ruthless on myself during the whole process. I think that shows in the final result on the record”.

Το κομμάτι που επιλέχθηκε μέσα από το νέο τους album, είναι το Return To Cold, για το οποίο ο mastermind την μπάντας και εναπομείναν μέλος Demonaz, σχολίασε τα εξής:

“Το Return To Cold ήταν το δεύτερο τραγούδι που έγραψα για αυτό το άλμπουμ.Η κιθαριστική δουλειά είναι στο παλιό επίμονο, IMMORTAL στυλ με μόνο μια χούφτα riffs. Για να το κάνουμε να μοιάζει ακόμα περισσότερο με τραγούδι από τα προηγούμενα άλμπουμ, δεν υπάρχουν μεγάλα διαλείμματα, κιθαριστικά σόλο ή άλλοι περισπασμοί. Ένα δυνατό ανοιχτό κύριο riff μαζί με τη μεγαλειώδη αρμονία και τις ζοφερές καθαρές κιθάρες δημιούργησαν το πλαίσιο για ένα ακόμα ατμοσφαιρικό, ξεχωριστό και χαρακτηριστικό τραγούδι των IMMORTAL.
Οι στίχοι γράφτηκαν έξω, στη βόλτα μου μέσα στο δάσος, στην πλαγιά του βουνού, στις κρύες ανεμοδαρμένες κορυφές, αγκαλιάζοντας τη δύναμη και τη διαχρονική αίσθηση από το χειμώνα – Είναι μια ξεκάθαρη επιστροφή στο κρύο, και όπως και το υπόλοιπο άλμπουμ… ένας φόρος τιμής στους μακροχρόνιους οπαδούς των IMMORTAL”.

With their new album War Against All being released today via Nuclear Blast, IMMORTAL have released a new lyric video.

The track chosen from within the new album is Return To Cold, for which the band’s mastermind and remaining member Demonaz commented the following:

“Return To Cold was the second song I wrote for this album. The guitar work is in the old insisting IMMORTAL style with just a handful of riffs. To make it feel even more like a song from the earlier albums, there is no big breaks, guitar solos, or other distractions. A powerful open main riff together with the majestic harmony and gloomy clean guitars created the frame for another atmospheric, distinct and characteristic IMMORTAL song.

The lyrics was written outside, on my walk through the forest, up the mountainside, to the cold windy tops, embracing the power and the timeless feel from winter – It is a definite return to cold, and like the rest of the album…a tribute to the longstanding IMMORTAL fans”.

Τώρα, με την συμβολή A.I (τεχνητής νοημοσύνης) ο Corinne Larre της Twisted Hooves Studio δημιούργησε ένα video και έδωσε νέα ζωή το κομμάτι. Στο video συναντούμε πολλά γνωστά πρόσωπα της μουσικής όπως οι John Bonham,John Entwistle,Bon Scott,Randy Rhoads,Jimi Hendrix,John Lennon,George Harrison,Jim Morrison,Elvis Presley και Dimebag Darrell, ενώ δεν θα μπορούσε να λείπει από την παραπάνω παρέα και η παρουσία του Peter Steele.

“Ένα video τεχνητής νοημοσύνης για μία τεχνητής νοημοσύνης μπάντα” σχολίασε ο κιθαρίστας του συγκροτήματος Johnny Kenny.

Ο δημιουργός του video Corinne Larre, επίσης, είπε τα εξής:

“Όταν η Nuclear Blast μου ζήτησε να φτιάξω αυτό το βίντεο χρησιμοποιώντας τεχνητή νοημοσύνη, ανυπομονούσα να εξερευνήσω τις χιλιάδες δυνατότητες που προσφέρει αυτή η νέα τεχνολογία. Η πραγματική πρόκληση ήταν η ενσωμάτωση θρυλικών καλλιτεχνών σε αυτή την εικόνα. Είναι δύσκολο να εξηγήσεις στην τεχνητή νοημοσύνη τις μικρές λεπτομέρειες που τους κάνουν μοναδικούς ως ανθρώπους. Στο τέλος, πρέπει να έγιναν εκατοντάδες, ακόμη και χιλιάδες επαναλήψεις για αυτό το βίντεο.

Ως καλλιτέχνης, πιστεύω ότι είναι απαραίτητο να παραμείνουμε ταπεινοί όταν χρησιμοποιούμε την τεχνητή νοημοσύνη, καθώς το θέμα έχει προκαλέσει δικαίως κάποια ηθική συζήτηση στον δημιουργικό κόσμο. Κατά τη γνώμη μου, αυτές οι δημιουργίες δεν θα πρέπει να θεωρούνται από μόνες τους καλλιτεχνικά έργα, αλλά τα πρώτα βήματα μιας τεχνολογίας που θα φέρει επανάσταση στην οπτικοακουστική δημιουργία τα επόμενα χρόνια”.

On the occasion of World Goth Day celebration, a new video clip was released by the TYPE O NEGATIVE. The animated video for Halloween In Heaven, which is the subject of this article as you may have guessed, was originally written as a tribute to the band’s friend and late PANTERA guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott.

Now, with the help of A.I (artificial intelligence) Corinne Larre of Twisted Hooves Studio has created a video and given the track new life. In the video we see many well-known faces of music such as John Bonham ,John Entwistle,Bon Scott,Randy Rhoads,Jimi Hendrix,John Lennon,George Harrison,Jim Morrison,Elvis Presley and Dimebag Darrell, and the presence of Peter Steele could not be missing from the above assembly.

“An artificial intelligence video for an artificially intelligent band” the band’s guitarist Johnny Kenny commented.

The video’s creator Corinne Larre also said:

“When Nuclear Blast asked me to make this video using artificial intelligence, I was eager to explore the thousand possibilities offered by this new technology. I ended up using a combination of two platforms: one that generated images and the other transforming said images into video.

The lyrics left the field open to a lot of experimentation, leading to this universe both eerie and kitsch, which I hope pays homage to the band. The real challenge was the integration of legendary artists into this imagery. It’s hard to explain to the A.I. the small details that make them unique as humans. In the end, hundreds, even thousands of iterations must have been made for this video!

“As an artist, I think it is necessary to remain humble when using artificial intelligence as the topic has quite rightly caused some ethical debate in the creative world. In my opinion, these creations should not be seen as artistic works in their own right, but as the first steps of a technology that will revolutionize audiovisual creation in the coming years.”

Το τραγούδι είναι εμπνευσμένο από τα γεγονότα γύρω από τη δολοφονία του βασιλιά Ριχάρδου Α‘ του Λεοντόκαρδου‘ και την ιδέα ότι μπορεί να χρειαστεί χρόνος αλλά, μια μέρα η δικαιοσύνη θα απονεμηθεί, πάντα”.

Το Goliath είναι προγραμματισμένο για κυκλοφορία στις 11 Αυγούστου από την Nuclear Blast Records.

The first sample of KATAKLYSM’s record return was released with the single for the track Bringer Of Vengeance from their new album.

About Goliath, as the album will be titled, Maurizio Iacono said the following:

“Our new album Goliath comes at a time in our society where division and hate are growing and spreading on a worldwide basis, where ideologies on how the future should be for humanity is colliding, This is also a time of unprecedented power structures fighting for the control of our lives, the story of David vs Goliath has never been more important than these modern times, Metal has always been a voice of rebellion against oppression and for the protection of our freedoms, the album also touches on inner conflict and doing what needs to be done to confront your inner demons.

The Bringer of Vengeance single’s main idea is about a carefully and patiently plotted revenge. The song is inspired by the events surrounding the assassination of King Richard I ‘The Lionheart’ and the idea that it might take time but, one day justice will always be served”.

Goliath is scheduled for release on August 11th via Nuclear Blast Records.

FEAR FACTORY‘s 2 re-releases are scheduled for June 23rd via Nuclear Blast Records and the band has released another single, this time for Depraved Mind Murder via Re-Industrialized.

As a reminder, Re-Industrialized features re-recorded drums, new mastering, new cover artwork and 6 bonus tracks.

A few days before the start of their European tour, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY released a new single. On The Hunt, as it is titled, is not a new composition of their own, but a cover of a song by LYNYRD SKYNYRD.

It’s not surprising that the band chose a track from LYNYRD SKYNYRD‘s discography, as the band is one of the big influences of CORROSION OF CONFORMITY. Mike Dean added the following about this particular cover:

“This is our hard to find tribute to LYNYRD SKYNYRD, a major influence of COC. With the recent passing of the great Gary Rossington, the last living original member of LYNYRD SKYNYRD , we thought it would be a good time to make this celebration of SKYNYRD more widely available.”

On The Hunt was originally released in 1975 and was included on LYNYRD SKYNYRD‘s album Nuthin’ Fancy of the same year.

Το single/lyric video είναι για το κομμάτι Wargod, για το οποίο ο mastermind της μπάντας πλέον, Demonaz, είχε να πει τα εξής στην σελίδα τους στα social media:

“Το Wargod είναι το πιο βαρύ κομμάτι του δίσκου. Το To Mega Therion του 1986 των CELTIC FROST αποτέλεσε την έμπνευση για μένα αυτή την φορά. Μερικά από τα κλασικά του κομμάτια είχαν βαριά αρχικά riff τα οποία εξελίσσονταν σε γρήγορα καταστρεπτικές και μαινόμενες ταχύτητες. Ήθελα να αιχμαλωτίσω ξανά αυτό το συναίσθημα με τον τρόπο όμως των IMMORTAL. Όταν μετακόμισα στα βουνά, το 2019, έψαξα κάποιο από το παλιό μου υλικό και μη χρησιμοποιημένους στίχους. Το Wargod ήταν ένα από αυτά. Ο τίτλος, οι στίχοι και η μουσική ιδέα ήταν από τις αρχές του 90 και πλέον περάσαν στον δίσκο”.

With their new album War Against All almost a month away from release, IMMORTAL have released their second single.

The single/lyric video is for the track Wargod, about which the band’s mastermind, Demonaz, had this to say on their social media page:

“Wargod is the heaviest song on the album. CELTIC FROST‘s album To Mega Therion from 1986 was an inspiration to me this time. Some of it’s classic tracks had heavy opening riffs that developed into fast devastating fury and tempo. I wanted to capture that feeling again, the IMMORTAL way. When i moved to the mountains In 2019 I went through some of my old material and unused lyrics. Wargod was one of them. The title, lyric and song ideas were originally from the early nineties, and now finally Immortal-ized on the album.

The supergroup ELEGANT WEAPONS have released their second single from their debut album. The second single/video is for the track Do Or Die and finds the band a little bit renewed as we now see Christopher Williams of ACCEPT behind the drums and Dave Rimmer of URIAH HEEP on bass.

The band’s debut album Horns For A Halo is scheduled for release on May 26 via Nuclear Blast.

For those who probably don’t know, ELEGANT WEAPONS is the musical brainchild of JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Richie Faulkner with the lineup that recorded the album consisting of Ronnie Romero (RAINBOW) on vocals, Rex Brown (PANTERA) on bass and Scott Travis (JUDAS PRIEST) on drums.

Το έβδομο album της μπάντας Mechanize πέρα από νέο artwork θα περιλαμβάνει και 3 bonus tracks, ενώ το επόμενο album τους The Industrialist πέρα από τον νέο του τίτλο, Re-Industrialized, θα περιλαμβάνει και αυτό νέο artwork, 6 bonus tracks καθώς και καινούργιο mastering.

Μέσα από το  Re-Industrialized, οι FEAR FACTORY επέλεξαν το New Messiah για να προλογίσει αυτές τις επανακυκλοφορίες, υπό την μορφή lyric video.

FEAR FACTORY have two re-releases ready for June 23rd. More specifically, Re-Industrialized and Mechanize will be re-released by Nuclear Blast with minor differences both sonically and in the tracklist.

The band’s seventh album Mechanize apart from a new artwork will include 3 bonus tracks, while their next album The Industrialist apart from its new title, Re-Industrialized, will also include new artwork, 6 bonus tracks and new mastering.

Through Re-Industrialized, FEAR FACTORY has chosen New Messiah to introduce these re-releases, in the form of a lyric video.

Today,Norwegian metallers Immortal, released the first sample from their new album. The black metallers who started their career in 1992, adds another release to their eventful career. 

The single is the title track of the new, 10th full length album War Against All, which is expected to be released on May 26th via Nuclear Blast. The album is the band’s second release since the departure of Abbath Doom Occulta in 2015.

With Demonaz Doom Occulta now being the sole founding member, Immortal seem to be keeping their sonic return to the early days of the band, something that started on 2018’s Northern Chaos Gods.

Η μπάντα έχει ήδη αρχίσει να περιοδεύει και να παίζει ζωντανά σε καλοκαιρινά φεστιβάλ και ο κόσμος έχει αγκαλιάσει τα τραγούδια τους σαν να πρόκειται για μια καθιερωμένη μπάντα. Όπως σχολίασε ο Mikael στην εμφάνισή τους στο Wacken 2022 “Ποτέ άλλοτε μια μπάντα δεν είχε δημιουργήσει τόσο μεγάλο hype γύρω της για το ντεμπούτο της“.  Και σε μια εποχή που τα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης είναι τα κύρια εργαλεία για τη δημιουργία μιας viral τάσης οι THE HALO EFFECT είναι η πιο καυτή μπάντα στη metal σκηνή με το αγνό μελωδικό death metal που έχουν δημιουργήσει. Το είδος του death metal που αγαπούν οι οπαδοί στον Σουηδικό ήχο και που έλειπε για αρκετό καιρό.

Το Days Of The Lost που κυκλοφορεί τώρα από την Nuclear Blast είναι το άλμπουμ που μας έλειπε, το μελωδικό death metal που χρειαζόμασταν και ψάχναμε για πολύ καιρό. Όλα τα τραγούδια έχουν εθιστικά riffs και πιασάρικα hooks που κολλάνε στο μυαλό σου από την πρώτη φορά που τα ακούς, κάτι που ήταν αρκετά εμφανές όταν η μπάντα έπαιξε ζωντανά και το κοινό πήρε φωτιά σε τραγούδια που δεν είχε ξανακούσει! Είμαι παλιά οπαδός του metal και δεν θυμάμαι άλλη τέτοια περίπτωση! Οι στίχοι του Mikael Stanne είναι τόσο ειλικρινείς με τους οποίους μπορείς να ταυτιστείς απόλυτα και τα καθαρά φωνητικά του έχουν ένα χρώμα που διαφέρει από τα καθαρά φωνητικά των DARK TRANQUILLITY που τα κάνει πιο άμεσα. Ειλικρινά δεν μπορώ να πω ποια τραγούδια είναι καλύτερα, αλλά έχω αδυναμία στα Conditional, Gateways, The Needless End και In Broken Trust.

Το μόνο που μπορώ να πω για το Days Of The Lost είναι ότι είναι εξαιρετικό και ανακινεί τα βαθύτερα συναισθήματά σου, γεγονός που το καθιστά πολύτιμο. Πώς μπορούμε να μην το αποκαλέσουμε αριστούργημα;

Ever since November 2021 all of us who love IN FLAMES and DARK TRANQUILLITY have been struck by lightning. As the months passed and THE HALO EFFECT kept revealing more songs from their debut album Days Of The Lost, we just couldn’t wait for the release of the first album made by former IN FLAMES members, Jesper Strömblad, Niclas Engelin, Peter Iwers,  Daniel Svensson  and DARK TRANQUILLITY mastermind Mikael Stanne.

The band has already started touring and playing live in summer festivals and the crowds have been embracing their songs as if they are an established band. As Mikael commented in their appearance in Wacken 2022 “Never before has a band had such a huge hype built around it for its debut”.  And in a time when social media are the main tools to create a viral trend THE HALO EFFECT are the hottest talk in the metal scene with the pure melodic death metal they have created. The kind of death metal fans love in the Swedish sound and have been missing for quite a while.

Days Of The Lost out now on Nuclear Blast is the album we had been missing, the melodic death metal we needed and have been searching for a very long time. All songs have addictive riffs and catchy hooks that stick to your mind by the first time you listen to them which was quite obvious when the band played live and the crowd caught fire on songs they had never listened to before! I am a long-time fan of metal and I don’t remember any other case like that! Mikael Stanne’s lyrics are so sincere that you can totally relate to, and his clean vocals have a color that differs from the clean vocals in DARK TRANQUILLITY which makes them more direct. I honestly can’t say which songs are better but I have a soft spot for Conditional, Gateways, The Needless End and In Broken Trust.

All I can say about Days Of The Lost is that it’s brilliant and it stirs your deepest emotions which makes it precious. How can we keep from calling it a masterpiece?

Με τα λόγια του Mille : “Μας αρέσει ακόμα να προκαλούμε τους εαυτούς μας, υποθέτω ότι σε αυτό καταλήγει”, λέει ο Mille, όταν ερωτάται για το μυστικό της μακροζωίας και των άψογων διαπιστευτηρίων τους. “Κάθε φορά που φτιάχνουμε ένα άλμπουμ, το νιώθουμε σαν το πρώτο. Παίρνουμε το χρόνο μας, είναι σημαντικό να έχουμε κάτι να πούμε και όχι να κυκλοφορούμε πράγματα απλά και μόνο για να βγάλουμε κάτι καινούργιο. Η ποιότητα είναι πάντα πάνω από την ποσότητα. Γιατί να βγάζουμε ανούσια, βαρετά άλμπουμ; Προτιμώ να χτίζω πάνω στην ουσία αυτού που προσπαθώ να πω και αυτό που θέλω να νιώσουν οι άνθρωποι. Γι’ αυτό και ακούγεται τόσο θυμωμένος και νευρικός ο ήχος μας”.

Το Hate Uber Alles επιφυλάσσει τραμπουκαλεμένο δυναμικό riffing με στίχους που δεν μασάνε τα λόγια τους και αποτελούν εξαιρετικό υλικό για ζωντανές εμφανίσεις. Το drumming είναι αδυσώπητο και οι κιθάρες σε πιάνουν απ’ το λαιμό από την πρώτη στιγμή και σε χτυπούν. Οφείλω να ομολογήσω ότι λάτρεψα το Conquer And Destroy (AMON AMARTH vibes), το Pride Comes Before The Fall, εξεπλάγην με το επικό συναίσθημα στο Crush The Tyrants, νομίζω ότι το Midnight Sun ακούγεται λίγο σαν το Apokathilosis των SUICIDAL ANGEL που ήταν αναζωογονητικό – ακούγοντας τους δασκάλους να επηρεάζονται από τους μαθητές τους και μου κίνησε την περιέργεια το Dying Planet. Συνολικά το Hate Uber Alles δεν είναι ένα άλμπουμ που δεν θα περίμενες από τους KREATOR, αλλά είναι σίγουρα όλα όσα ήθελες να ακούσεις από αυτούς τους thrash τιτάνες. Οπότε ακούστε το δυνατά!

KREATOR have been a reliable force in thrash metal for well almost 40 years. Raw and aggressive they always aim their fists right between the eyes and get the target every time. Especially over the last two decades, with the help of newer technology their releases are all well above average without any exception. Hate Uber Alles which is out now on Nuclear Blast is one more album to add up to this ever-rising course.

In the words of Mille : “We still like to challenge ourselves, I guess that’s what it comes down to,” says Mille, when quizzed on the secret to their longevity and flawless credentials. “Every time we make an album, it feels like the first one. We take our time, it’s important to have something to say rather than releasing things just for the sake of putting out something new. Quality always over quantity. Why put out meaningless, boring albums? I’d rather build on the
essence of what I’m trying to say and what I want people to feel. That’s why we sound so angry and edgy.”

Hate Uber Alles holds angry forceful riffing with lyrics that don’t hold back and make excellent material for fierce live shows. The drumming is relentless and the guitars hook you by the first time they hit you. I must admit I loved Conquer And Destroy (AMON AMARTH vibes), Pride Comes Before The Fall, I was surprised with the epic feeling in Crush The Tyrants, I think Midnight Sun sounds a bit like SUICIDAL ANGEL’s Apokathilosis which was refreshing – listening to the teachers being influenced by their students and was intrigued by the Dying Planet. All in all Hate Uber Alles isn’t an album you wouldn’t expect from KREATOR, but is definitely everything you wanted to listen from these thrash titans. So blast it loud!
