Συνθέσεις μελωδικές και πάρα πολύ ζωντανές φτιαγμένες για να παιχτούν σε συναυλία και να ξεσηκώσουν και τραγούδια πιασάρικα που θα σου μείνουν από το πρώτο άκουσμα και θα θυμάσαι. Αγαπημένο μου και πρώτο στην προτίμησή μου το Between Directions ενώ ξεχώρισα με σχετική ευκολία το πρώτο του άλμπουμ What We Become και το Conspire To Deceive. Άκουσέ το και είμαι σίγουρη ότι θα σε κερδίσει από το πρώτο άκουσμα ενώ θα σου ανεβάσει και τη διάθεση.

When THE HALO EFFECT’s debut album came out, my excitement hit the roof and the year that Days Of The Lost came out, I loved it both in the listening sessions and in the broadcasts of my shows at Metalradio.gr. With the passage of time it lost nothing of its value and my willingness to return to it because already from its release I felt it as an album that had a place in my favorites. The truth is I was afraid of what I would hear on the second album. I also follow Niclas Engelin on social who also has the motto Obey the riff and I was thinking, “make sure you write a good album or else even the Danube can’t wash you out”.

And along comes the release of March Of The Undead to start the list of 2025 releases and guess what… they wrote a really nice album. They don’t reinvent the wheel of course, but we weren’t expecting that. It’s the music of the good old In Flames of the Whoracle era (no coincidence with that kind of band line-up) with Mikael Stanne on vocals, with songs that win you over on first listen and you come back with ease and without a second thought.

“I felt more confident this time around,” explains guitarist Niclas Engelin, who co-writes THE HALO EFFECT’s music with fellow instrumentalists Jesper Strömblad (guitars), Daniel Svensson (drums) and Peter Iwers (bass). “For the first song with THE HALO EFFECT, we didn’t know where to go. We were talking about Rush and progressive music, or maybe we should go Tom Petty. But then Peter had the idea for the opening of [Days of the Lost song] ‘Gateways’, and then we did ‘Shadowminds’ and ‘Feel What I Believe’. We were like, ‘Alright! Let’s not search anymore! Let’s just go for it and not overthink.’ We used that rule on this album. It’s more progressive, with more guitars, more riffage – it’s more of everything, in a way.”

Melodic and very much alive compositions made to be played in a concert and to stir up and catchy songs that will stay with you from the first listen and you will remember. My favorite and first in my preference is Between Directions, while I also easily picked out the first song of the album What We Become and Conspire To Deceive. Give it a listen and I’m sure it will win you over from the first listen while it will also lift your spirits.

Νωρίτερα σήμερα, τα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης των MY DYING BRIDE ενημερώθηκαν με την ακόλουθη ανακοίνωση: “Η παραγωγή αυτού του τελευταίου άλμπουμ ήταν επίπονη και απαιτητική σε τέτοιο βαθμό που αποκάλυψε ρήγματα εντός της μπάντας. Αυτές οι εντάσεις είχαν ήδη παρατηρηθεί κατά τη διάρκεια της δημιουργίας των 2 προηγούμενων άλμπουμ και επιδεινώθηκαν κατά την περίοδο του Covid. Κατά τη διάρκεια των τελευταίων μηνών, εντάθηκαν, προκαλώντας μια βαθιά αίσθηση δυσαρέσκειας μεταξύ των μελών της μπάντας. Το συνακόλουθο άγχος και το διάχυτο αίσθημα εξουθένωσης, μαζί με τη σωματική και ψυχική κακουχία που δημιουργεί, επέβαλαν μια περίοδο διακοπών, η οποία δυστυχώς επηρεάζει τις ζωντανές εμφανίσεις.

“Ο λόγος για την απουσία επίσημης δήλωσης μέχρι τώρα είναι επειδή η μπάντα ήλπιζε πραγματικά να επιλύσει αυτά τα εσωτερικά ζητήματα και να πραγματοποιήσει κάποιες συναυλίες φέτος, ενώ προσπαθούσε να βρει εγκαίρως μια λύση που θα ικανοποιούσε όλα τα εμπλεκόμενα μέρη. Δυστυχώς, αυτή η λύση δεν έχει ακόμη βρεθεί.

“Δυστυχώς, η έλλειψη κατανόησης και η κακή επικοινωνία από τους επαγγελματίες εταίρους μας οδήγησε σε ένα πρόωρο χάος, από το οποίο η ανάκαμψη είναι δύσκολη. Σε πρόσφατη συνέντευξή του στον Lindsay C του This Day In Metal, ο κιθαρίστας των MY DYING BRIDE, Andrew Craighan, δήλωσε σχετικά με τις ακυρώσεις συναυλιών της μπάντας το 2024: “Λοιπόν, το Maryland Deathfest, πρώτον, δεν έπρεπε να πει [αυτά που είπε σε μια ανακοίνωση που ανακοίνωσε την απόσυρση των MY DYING BRIDE από τη διοργάνωση], και το γνωρίζουν αυτό και έκτοτε ζήτησαν συγγνώμη – καλά, ιδιωτικά ζήτησαν συγγνώμη.

“Είναι όλα λίγο περίεργα αυτή τη στιγμή, οπότε είναι δύσκολο να μιλήσω γι’ αυτά – κυρίως επειδή δεν θέλω να πω τίποτα εκτός θέματος και τότε ό,τι πεις θα χρησιμοποιηθεί ως αποδεικτικό στοιχείο εναντίον σου και όλα αυτά”, πρόσθεσε.

Η συνέχεια του “The Ghost Of Orion” του 2019 , το “A Mortal Binding ” κυκλοφόρησε στις 19 Απριλίου μέσω της Nuclear Blast Records.

Οι MY DYING BRIDE προσέλαβαν τον συνεργάτη τους στο “The Ghost Of Orion” Mark Mynett για την παραγωγή, τη μίξη και το mastering του “A Mortal Binding“. English doom metal pioneers MY DYING BRIDE, who have just released their 15th studio album, “A Mortal Binding”, have issued an official statement regarding the recent revelation that they were canceling all of their previously announced 2024 tour dates, including an appearance at this year’s Maryland Deathfest.

Earlier today, MY DYING BRIDE‘s social media was updated with the following announcement: “The production of this latest album was arduous and challenging to such an extent that it has revealed fractures within the band. These tensions had already been observed during the creation of the previous 2 albums and were only exacerbated during the Covid period. Over the past few months, they have intensified, causing a profound sense of discontent among the band members. The resulting stress and the pervasive feeling of burnout, along with the physical and mental malaise it creates, necessitated a period of time off which unfortunately impacts on live shows.

“The reason for the lack of an official statement until now is because the band has truly hoped to resolve these internal issues and perform some shows this year while trying find a resolution in time to satisfy all parties involved. Sadly, this resolution is yet to be found.

“Regrettably, a lack of understanding and poor communication from our professional partners has resulted in an untimely and chaotic mess from which a recovery is challenging. However, the promoters have now been officially contacted and it is hoped that steps can be taken to minimise the impact on you all.

“We apologise for keeping you in the dark, but these are indeed challenging times.”

In a recent interview with Lindsay C of This Day In Metal, MY DYING BRIDE guitarist Andrew Craighan stated about the band’s 2024 concert cancelations: “Well, Maryland Deathfest, firstly, shouldn’t have said [what they said in a statement announcing MY DYING BRIDE‘s withdrawal from the event], and they know that and have since apologized — well, privately apologized.

“We have some live problems, which we’re — how best to say it? — massaging, I would say. They’re not insurmountable. I don’t have all the facts just yet, which means I don’t wanna blab too much. But we’re in talks with everybody who has the facts, and we will be putting out a statement, basically, that either will explain or at least calm people down as to what’s going on.

“It’s all a bit weird right now, so it’s difficult to talk about — mainly because I don’t wanna say anything out of turn and then everything you say will be used in evidence against you and all that,” he added.

The follow-up to 2019’s “The Ghost Of Orion”, “A Mortal Binding” came out on April 19 via Nuclear Blast Records.

MY DYING BRIDE hired “The Ghost Of Orion” studio wizard Mark Mynett to produce, mix, and master “A Mortal Binding”. The group holed up at Mynett‘s Mynetaur Productions (PARADISE LOST, ROTTING CHRIST) in Manchester, U.K., where they tracked the album consecutively from July to September 2023.

Δίνοντας μια πρώτη στροφή στο Profane Prayer περίμενα old school thrash με πολλά κότσια και φοβερό riffing. Το οποίο και πήρα σε μεγάλο βαθμό. Αυτό που δεν περίμενα είναι αυτό που ήρθε φωλιάζοντας όταν άκουσα το Deathstalker. Ένα τραγούδι που χτίζεται αργά και σε οδηγεί στην κάθαρση στο τέλος του. Με guest φωνητικά από τον Σάκη των ROTTING CHRIST, τον Ευθύμη από τους NIGHTFALL και τον Φώτη από τους SIXFORNINE. Είναι από τα τραγούδια που αρχίζεις να ακούς χαλαρά και ξαφνικά σου τραβάει την προσοχή και σε ρουφάει. Είναι κάτι που συνέβη τυχαία και χωρίς κανέναν απολύτως σχεδιασμό, καθώς ο Nick ηχογραφούσε φωνητικά στα Devasoundz Studios, όπως εξήγησε στη συνέντευξη που έδωσε στο Metalradio.gr.

Στο The Return of the Reaper έπιασα τον εαυτό μου να κάνει headbanging χωρίς καν να το καταλάβω. Και στο τελευταίο τραγούδι του άλμπουμ The Fire Paths of Fate, έμεινα με δέος. Χρησιμοποίησαν γυναικεία φωνητικά προσθέτοντας μια αίσθηση ανατολίτικης πινελιάς και zither που είχε να κάνει τόσο με την προσπάθεια της μπάντας να πειραματιστεί όσο και με την καταγωγή του Νίκου από το νησί της Μυτιλήνης. Μουσικά εντόπισα επιρροές από τους AMON AMARTH, DARK TRANQUILLITY, ANTHRAX, εκτός από τους συνήθεις υπόπτους όπως οι SLAYER και οι KREATOR. Όπως λέει ο Νίκος όλα τα τραγούδια είναι πολύ διαφορετικά μεταξύ τους και οι στίχοι είναι επηρεασμένοι από πράγματα που διάβασε κατά τη διάρκεια του covid και το συναισθηματικό ταξίδι που πέρασε. Ο Ορφέας έκανε μια φοβερή δουλειά στα τύμπανα, που εμπλούτισε με γεμίσματα και πολύ ενέργεια, ο Gus ζωντάνεψε εμπνευσμένα κιθαριστικά σόλο και επιδέξιο κιθαριστικό παίξιμο, ενώ ο Άγγελος παραμένει ο αξιόπιστος βράχος του rhythm section.

Δεν χρειάζεται να πω περισσότερα. Το Profane Prayer σκοτώνει και αποτελεί την ακλόνητη απόδειξη ότι οι SUICIDAL ANGELS είναι μια από τις καλύτερες thrash μπάντες που υπάρχουν σήμερα στη σκηνή.

SUICIDAL ANGELS have been a constant in the thrash metal scene since day 1. They work hard, they tour extensively and they give it all they got every single time they hit the stage. When they released Years of Agression back in 2019 everyone thought they would hit it off. Covid though otherwise. They were forced to cut their tour short and get back home and one heck of an album wasn’t promoted as expected by touring. Now they return with appears to be probably their most mature and complete albums to date. Profane Prayer is finally out on March 1^st 2024 through Nuclear Blast, the very first record label who started it all back in 2009.

Giving a first spin to Profane Prayer I expected old school thrash with a lot of guts and great riffing. Which I got extensively. What I didn’t expect is what came nest when I listened to Deathstalker. A song that builds up slowly and leads you to katharsis by the end of it. With guest vocals by Sakis of ROTTING CHRIST, Efthimis from NIGHTFALL and Fotis from SIXFORNINE. It’s the type of song you begin to listen to casually and then all of a sudden it catches you attention and sucks you in. It’s something that happened casually and without any planning at all as Nick was recording vocals in Devasoundz Studios, as he explained on the interview he gave Metalradio.gr.

In The Return of the Reaper I found myself headbanging without even realizing it. And on the closing song of the album The Fire Paths of Fate,  I was left in awe. They used female vocals adding up a sense of eastern touch and zither which had to do both with the band’s attempt to experiment and Nick’s descendance from the island of Mitilini. Musically I traced influences by Amon Amarth, Dark Tranquillity, Anthrax, other than the usual suspects such as Slayer and Kreator. As Nick says all songs are very different from each other and the lyrics are influenced by things he read during covid and the emotional journey he went through. Orfeas did one hell of a job on the drums, enriching his playing with drum fillings and great energy, Gus brought to life inspired guitar solos and skillful guitaring  while Aggelos remains the reliable rock of the rhythm section.

There’s no need for me to say more. Profane Prayer is a killer and it is solid proof SUICIDAL ANGELS are one of the best thrash bands around.

Το A Sign Of Things To Come διαρκεί περίπου τρία τέταρτα της ώρας και ένα μεγάλο μέρος του, είναι ένα ταξίδι σε ως τώρα αχαρτογράφητο ηχητικό έδαφος για τους Sylosis. Η ωμή δύναμη και τα καταιγιστικά riffs, που δημιουργούν τον χαρακτηριστικό Sylosis ήχο είναι το κύριο συστατικό του δίσκου, αλλά σίγουρα υπάρχει μια άλλου είδους ατμόσφαιρα και απόχρωση καθ’όλη τη διάρκεια του. 

Πολύ όμορφος και ισορροπημένος ήχος, με riffs που σπάνε κόκκαλα, ατμοσφαιρικές μελωδίες και καθαρά περάσματα να αναδεικνύονται υπέροχα το ένα δίπλα και μέσα απ’ το άλλο. Αρκετοί death και metalcore ήχοι, και ίσως λιγότερο thrash-infused ήχοι απ’ ότι θα περιμέναμε. Το A Sign Of Things To Come περιέχει μία ποικιλομορφία που μπορεί να ξενίσει κάποιους αρχικά αλλά η ακαταμάχητη μουσική σφραγίδα του Josh Middleton είναι παρούσα και ο χαρακτηριστικός ήχος των Sylosis παραμένει αναλλοίωτος. 

Φωνητικά το βρήκα το εξαιρετικό, με την επιδέξια, ωμή και ιδιαίτερη χροιά του Josh Middleton να εγκαθίστανται κατευθείαν στον εγκέφαλό σου. Οι Ali Richardson (drums) και  Conor Marshall (bass) χορεύουν εναρμονισμένα, κρατώντας το rhythm section σε πολύ υψηλά επίπεδα και χαρίζοντας ένα groove που αποκλείεται να σε αφήσει ακίνητο. Η κιθαριστική δουλειά από τους Alex Bailey και Josh Middleton είναι φυσικά καταιγιστική με παχιά και bone-breaking riffs αλλά και με μελωδίες που θα σε πλημμυρίσουν συναισθήματα. 

Το Absent είναι η έκπληξη του A Sign Of Things To Come, τοποθετώντας την εξέλιξη στον ήχο τους στο επίκεντρο. Ένα κυκλοθυμικό, ατμοσφαιρικό και μελωδικό κομμάτι που κρατάει τα πράγματα διακριτικά για λίγα λεπτά, πριν εκραγεί σε έναν μεγαλειώδες κομμάτι που ίσως να μην περίμενες να ακούσεις από τους Sylosis. 

Το A Sign Of Things To Come είναι σίγουρα η γέφυρα μεταξύ του παρελθόντος και του μέλλοντος των Sylosis, διατηρώντας την ξεχωριστή μουσική τους ταυτότητα αλλά προσφέροντας και μία αναζωογονημένη μουσική φόρμουλα για την μπάντα. 

Οι Sylosis είναι μία ανεξάντλητη πηγή μουσικών δυνατοτήτων και πραγματικά ελπίζω το A Sign Of Things To Come να είναι κυριολεκτικά ένας καλός οιωνός αυτών που έρχονται και να εισπράξει την αγάπη που του αξίζει.

Sylosis need very few, if any I hope, introductions. With Josh Middleton being the only remaining original member of the band on September 8, 2023 Sylosis release their 6th full-studio album A Sign Of Things To Come (Nuclear Blast Records).  

A Sign Of Things To Come is about three quarters of an hour of music and it’s a journey into previously uncharted sonic territory for Sylosis. Of course we have the raw power and thunderous riffs that create the signature Sylosis sound, but there’s definitely a different kind of atmosphere and hue throughout the album. 

A very beautiful and balanced sound, with bone-crushing riffs, atmospheric melodies and clean passages that are beautifully showcased next to and through each other. Several death and metalcore sounds, and maybe less thrash-infused sounds than we would expect. A Sign Of Things To Come contains a diversity that may alienate some at first but the irresistible musical stamp of Josh Middleton is present, as the characteristic Sylosis sound remains unchanged.

Vocally I found it excellent, with Josh Middleton’s slick, raw and distinctive tone settling straight into your brain. Ali Richardson (drums) and Conor Marshall (bass) dance in harmony, keeping the rhythm section at a very high level and giving you a groove that is impossible to leave you motionless. The guitar work from Alex Bailey and Josh Middleton is of course thunderous with thick and bone-breaking riffs but also with melodies that will flood you with emotions.  

The track Absent was for me the surprise of A Sign Of Things To Come, placing the evolution in their sound at the heart of it. A moody, atmospheric and melodic track that keeps things subtle for a few minutes before exploding into a sublime track that you might not expect to hear from Sylosis.  

A Sign Of Things To Come is definitely the bridge between Sylosis’ s past and future, maintaining their distinct musical identity but also offering a refreshed musical formula for the band. Sylosis is an inexhaustible source of musical possibilities and I truly hope A Sign Of Things To Come is literally a good omen of things to come and that it will receive the love it deserves.

Το τραγούδι είναι άλλο ένα κλασικό τραγούδι του Jesper και του Niclas που περιλαμβάνει όλα όσα αγαπάμε να κάνουμε μαζί σε αυτή τη μπάντα. Στιχουργικά ασχολείται με τις μη ρεαλιστικές προσδοκίες και με το πόσο σημαντικό είναι να ακολουθεί κανείς το δικό του μονοπάτι και να είναι ανένδοτος σε αυτό ό,τι και αν συμβεί. Ξεκινάμε την περιοδεία μας στις ΗΠΑ στις 20 Μαΐου και είμαστε πολύ ενθουσιασμένοι που θα φέρουμε αυτό το συγκρότημα στην Αμερική για πρώτη φορά. Μην το χάσετε αυτό!”

Purveyors of the legendary Gothenburg sound THE HALO EFFECT have presented us with a visualizer for the song ´Path Of Fierce Resistance´, which was previously released as a Japanese exclusive on the band’s globally acclaimed debut album Days Of The Lost, that was released in August 2022. Now, the ferocious track is finally being released to the rest of the world, before the band embarks on their first US headline run in May and gets back to the studio to work on their next full-length album.

Frontman Mikael Stanne comments:”Path Of Fierce Resistance” is a song we wrote for the Days of the Lost album but it only surfaced on the limited Japanese edition and it has been very close to us and having it here now for all to hear feels fantastic. The new album is in the works and we are incredibly excited about it, so consider this as something to keep you guys going until we unveil what is coming next.
The song is another Jesper and Niclas classic that features everything that we love doing together in this band. Lyrically it deals with unrealistic expectations and about how important it is to follow one’s own path and be adamant about it no matter what. We start our tour in the US on the 20th of May and we are beyond stoked to bring this band to America for the first time. Do not miss this!”

Μαζί με αυτή την μεταγραφή, ανακοίνωσαν και την επαναηχογράφηση 2 εκ των πρώτων δίσκων των Sepultura. Οι επαναηχογραφήσεις αυτές αφορούν τα Bestial Devastation και Morbid Visions που κυκλοφόρησαν αρχικά το 1985 και 1986 αντίστοιχα.

Την παραγωγή αυτών των 2023 εκδόσεων των παραπάνω δίσκων επιμελήθηκαν οι ίδιοι Max και Igor Cavalera ενώ το mix και mastering ανέλαβε ο Arthur Rizk. Παράλληλα, και τα δύο album έχουν και νέο εξώφυλλο δια χειρός Eliran Kantor.

The Cavalera brothers joined the Nuclear Blast family as they signed with the company recently.

Along with this, they also announced the re-recording of 2 of Sepultura‘s first albums. These re-recordings are of Bestial Devastation and Morbid Visions, originally released in 1985 and 1986 respectively.

The production of these 2023 versions of the above albums was handled by the same Max and Igor Cavalera while the mixing and mastering was handled by Arthur Rizk. At the same time, both albums have new artwork by Eliran Kantor.

The Cavalera brothers stated the following:

Max Cavalera:“As we get harder year after year, sometimes you’ve got to go back to where it all started! We re-recorded Bestial Devastation and Morbid Visions with the amazing sound of now, but with its raw and timeless spirit. The artwork reflects the times we’re living in right now… Apocalyptic as hell! We also have two new tracks with riffs from those days, remembered by heart.”

Igor Cavalera:“I always felt like the recordings of our earlier work didn’t do justice to the way we performed the songs. So, this is a very special moment in our lives that we are very proud to show you real fans our true representation of the amazing records Bestial Devastation & Morbid Visions with an insane visual identity…enjoy and see you all in the pit.”

Today, THY ART IS MURDER releases the second single from the EP entitled, “Until There Is No Longer”.

The Aggression Sessions is the follow-up to 2016’s The Depression Sessions and follows the same 6-song mini album where each band offers an original single and a cover song. For this session, THY ART IS MURDER is covering Cannibal Corpse and FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY is covering At The Gates whereas MALEVOLENCE is handling a song by American singer Anastacia.

“Before we had even completed work on ‘The Depressions Sessions’ we knew a lifelong friendship had been forged between THY ART IS MURDER and FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY, and that we would have to do another variation of the project. ‘The Aggression Sessions’ concept was born almost immediately following the completion of the first iteration but has taken many years to finally find the time to record and release it amidst the chaotic touring and music release schedules of both bands. We wanted to take things back to some of our favorite inspirations for writing and performing heavy and aggressive music this time, encapsulating the tone of the EP title. We hope everyone enjoys!

Paradise Lost announced the addition of Guido Zima (Strigoi) in their ranks behind the drums on their social media page.

Greg Mackintosh commented

“We welcome Guido as Paradise Lost‘s new drummer. He cut his teeth with us on our European tour at the end of 2022. Guido did such a good job that we have decided to make him our new drummer and he will be playing on all upcoming Paradise Lost shows and working on new material with us for our next album due out next year.”

In the same post, the band a video with Guido Zima doing what he knows best, with Strigoi in which he also is apart off.

From the release of their first EP Casting Shadows, in 2006, to the present day, British metallers Sylosis have proven countless times how captivating and crushing their music is, and their first single for 2023 titled Deadwood could not be any different.

The now pioneers of the modern metal scene, Sylosis, unveiled the song and video for the thunderous Deadwood on March 16, 2023, via Nuclear Blast Records.

“We’ve never pushed so hard to create something as special as this new music!” said Sylosis mastermind Josh Middleton via their official press release, “Our focus is to write the best modern metal and it’s very exciting to see a new scene of metal fans and bands emerging for us all to keep developing and growing!”

The clock is ticking: On February 10th, Swedish modern metal visionaries IN FLAMES release their fourteenth studio album Foregone – the new masterpiece from a band whose artistry and influence on modern metal is undeniable.

Today, IN FLAMES release the fifth single from Foregone: “Meet Your Maker” is a pulsating track with hypnotizing power and furious anger. Like a raw nerve exposed, the song speaks of the desperation and frustration brought on by the chaotic dystopia of post-pandemic society.

Frontman Anders Fridén states, “When we started to write for Foregone, Meet Your Maker became the song that set the tone in terms of what we were aiming for sonically as well as thematically. A few weeks ago, the New Wave of Swedish Death Metal architects IN FLAMES announced their fourteenth studio album, Foregone, with the immense single ‘Foregone Pt. 1′. Today, the band pick up the threads releasing ‘Foregone Pt. 2′! The new song arrives just in time for the band’s huge upcoming tour,  that launches on November 12th in Tallin, Estonia. IN FLAMES will be supported on the road by AT THE GATES, IMMINENCE and ORBIT CULTURE.
Frontman Anders Fridén states, “While revisiting songs in our catalog like Moonshield and Gyroscope, I felt we hadn’t done that style for awhile. We wanted honor those types of songs which incorporates the Swedish folk vibe, but bring it to the current era of In flames. Musically and lyrically it is a continuation of Foregone.”

Ανάμεικτα τα συναισθήματα, ανάμεικτες οι αντιδράσεις στα όποια media,  καθόλου ανάμεικτη όμως η αίσθηση και η εντύπωση που μου άφησε το album από την πρώτη κιόλας ακρόαση. Οι LAMB OF GOD στο Omens δεν κάνουν καμία τρελή ανακάλυψη, δεν φέρνουν την ανατροπή στην μουσική, κοινώς δεν ανακαλύπτουν τον τροχό, δεν χρειάζεται, το έκαναν μία φορά στις αρχές τους. Ανάθεμα, δεν δοκιμάζουν καν να πειραματιστούν ξανά, όπως έκαναν στο πιο πρόσφατο παρελθόν. Επιστρέφουν σε αυτό που πάντα ήξεραν να κάνουν καλά, επανέρχονται στα γνωστά τους λημέρια. Αδάμαστο, επιθετικό μέχρι τελικής πτώσης, ρυθμικό, λυσσασμένο metal της καλύτερης ποιότητας.

Πολύ πιθανόν να μην είναι και ο πιο “εμπνευσμένος” δίσκος τους, πιθανόν να υπάρχει μια αίσθηση επαναληψιμότητας ή μανιέρας. Ανάθεμα με όμως αν καταφέρεις να κρατηθείς στατικός. Είναι απλά αδύνατο. Όσο και αν θεωρείς πως οι καλύτερες μέρες τους μουσικά και συνθετικά βρίσκονται στο παρελθόν, καλή τύχη στο να μην χαμογελάσεις στην χειρότερη στο άκουσμα του To The Grave. Εγώ σου λέω πως θα βαρέσεις το χέρι σου στο γραφείο φωνάζοντας γνωστή πολυχρησιμοποιημένη φράση αναλόγων περιστάσεων, που δεν μου “επιτρέπεται” να θέσω επί γραπτού.

Στο δε Ditch σε βλέπω να κάνεις λακούβα στο πλησιέστερο καλοριφέρ. Ξέρεις γιατί; Γιατί όσο και αν λειτουργήσει στο “ρελαντί”, δεν γίνεται να γράψει κακό riff ο Morton, από τα μούτρα θα σε πιάνει πάντα. Διάβαζα πρόσφατα φωνές διαφόρων που έλεγαν πως ο Randy και γενικά η μπάντα ίσως να μην επανήλθαν ποτέ μετά τα γεγονότα και το μπαράζ των όσων συνέβησαν τότε με την φυλάκιση του. Πως μετά δε και τις επιτυχημένες απεξαρτήσεις του, έχασε το νεύρο του, την οργή του, πως όλο αυτό τον “δάμασε” με κάποιο τρόπο. Αν λοιπόν αυτός είναι ο ήχος ενός “δαμασμένου” και “εξημερωμένου” ανθρώπου ο οποίος διανύει αισίως τον 51ο χρόνο της ζωής του τότε κάτι κάνουμε λάθος όλοι οι υπόλοιποι. Σίγουρα όλα τα παραπάνω τον άλλαξαν, σίγουρα και πολύ πιθανόν να κουράστηκε, αλλά ακούς μια τρομερή λύσσα ακόμα στην ερμηνεία του, μια πιθανόν ελεγχόμενη, σκεπτόμενη, όχι μεθυσμένη ή ανεξέλεγκτη μανία, ακούς οργή κατόπιν σκέψης, κατόπιν πάλης πρώτα με τον εαυτό σου. Γιατί Gomorrah νηφάλιος και χωρίς να πονάς δεν ερμηνεύεις έτσι. Everything is doomed to fail με όλο του το είναι φωνάζει, για εμάς που ο σβέρκος μας δεν βαστάει άλλο.

Η χειρότερη μουσική περίοδος των LAMB OF GOD είναι δισκογραφική καριέρα άλλων, ας μην γελιόμαστε. Αγάπησα τους πειραματισμούς τους στο Sturm Und Drang, αλλά μετά κάπου με έχασαν. Με χαρά ακούω πως μάλλον είχαν ανάγκη και αυτοί να μπουν στον “αυτόματο” ξανά. Και τι αυτόματος έτσι; Με το ομότιτλο να είναι το “εμπορικό” κομμάτι του δίσκου, Denial Mechanism να κάνει mosh μέσα στο σαλόνι σου και September Song να αποτελεί από τα καλύτερα κλεισίματα δίσκου που έχω ακούσει καιρό τώρα. Τι άλλο υπάρχει να πω αγαπητοί; Για παραγωγή θα μιλήσουμε τώρα και απόδοση; Σας παρακαλώ πολύ δηλάδη. Πάρτε στυλό και χαρτί και κρατάτε σημειώσεις, έτσι γίνεται φίλοι μου.

One of the most influential bands of its generation, if not of the entire “extreme” scene in my opinion, is back with a new album. Album number 9 to be precise for LAMB OF GOD who apparently did not take their time this time. The album is titled Omens and a small sample of it we had already listened to from any video clips/singles that had been published.

Mixed feelings, mixed reactions in the overall social media, but everything but mixed feeling and impressions was what the album left on me from the very first time I listened to it. LAMB OF GOD on Omens don’t make any breakthroughs, they don’t revolutionize music,or as they say they don’t reinvent the wheel, they don’t need to, they did it once in their early days. Heck, they’re not even trying to experiment again like they did in the more recent past. They return to what they always knew how to do well, they return to their familiar haunts. Untamed, aggressive until the last man standing, groovie, raging metal of the best quality.

It’s probably not their most “inspired” record either, there’s probably a sense of repeating themselves in a way . I’ll be damned if you can hold your head still though. It’s simply impossible. Even if you think their best days musically and composition wise are in the past, good luck not smiling at the worst case scenario when listening to To The Grave. I bet that you will bring your hand down  in the office shouting a well-known and often used phrase of similar circumstances, which I am not “allowed” to put in writing.

In Ditch I can literally see you making a hole in the nearest radiator or something. You know why? Because no matter how inspired he feels or not, Morton can’t write a bad riff, he’ll always get you by the neck. I’ve been reading random voices recently saying that Randy and the band in general may never have actually come back after the events and barrage of what happened back then with his incarceration. How after his successful liberation from his drug addictions, he lost his edge, his anger, how all this somehow “tamed” him. If this is the sound of a “tamed” and “domesticated” man who is happily going through the 51st year of his life, then the rest of us are definitely doing something wrong. Certainly all of the above changed him, certainly and very likely he was tired, but you hear an incredible rage still in his performance, a possibly controlled, under thinking, not drunk or uncontrollable rage, you hear rage after thought, after fighting first with thyself. Because there is no freaking way you can perform Gomorrah sober and without pain like that. “Everything is doomed to fail” he shouts with all his being, for us whose necks can’t bear it anymore.

LAMB OF GOD’s worst musical period is someone else’s recording career, let’s not be kidding ourselves. I loved their experimentation in Sturm Und Drang, but then they lost me somewhere after that. I am happy to hear that they probably also needed to get into the “autopilot” again. And what an “autopilot” indeed? With the title track being the “commercial” part of the record, Denial Mechanism making a mosh out of your living room and September Song being one of the best closing tracks I’ve heard in a while. What more is there to say? Honestly, is there any reason to talk about production and performance and stuff like that? Give me a break. Grab a pen and paper and take notes, that’s how it’s done my friends.

Όσο προχωράει ο δίσκος δεν υπάρχει ούτε ένα τραγούδι που να κουράζει και το riffing να σε σφυροκοπάει! Για πόσους δίσκους μπορείς να πεις ότι τους ακούς από την αρχή μέχρι το τέλος και σου αρέσει ο δίσκος ? Πολύ λίγους και το ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN είναι ένας από αυτούς. Δεν μπορώ να ξεπεράσω το earworm My Hands Are Empty από την πρώτη φορά που το άκουσα, αλλά έχοντας ακούσει όλο το άλμπουμ μπορώ να πω ότι μου άρεσε κάθε τραγούδι από το πρώτο μέχρι το ένατο κομμάτι. Το Bloodshot, το δέκατο κομμάτι θα σου αφήσει και επίγευση από το Painkiller των Judas Priest που σίγουρα θα ευχαριστήσει τους πιο κλασικούς ακροατές ενώ το Rotten έχει τις pinched αρμονικές των Machine Head σήμα κατατεθέν. Στο κλείσιμο του δίσκου οι MH χρησιμοποιούν ένα “autotuneish” εφέ στη φωνή του Robb, τις χαρακτηριστικές Machine Head κιθαριστικές αρμονικές τους, ένα όμορφο κιθαριστικό σόλο και μια αφήγηση “κακού” που το κάνει εξαιρετικά θεατρικό και τρομακτικό, κάτι που ταιριάζει με το concept του δίσκου.

Τοποθετημένο σε μια φουτουριστική ερημιά όπου ο ουρανός είναι πάντα κατακόκκινος, το ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN αφηγείται την ιστορία δύο χαρακτήρων, που και οι δύο έρχονται αντιμέτωποι με ανυπολόγιστα τραύματα, των οποίων οι ιστορίες μπλέκονται αιματηρά καθώς εξελίσσεται αυτός ο βαθύς, σκοτεινός δίσκος. “Το άλμπουμ και το concept ήταν εμπνευσμένο κατα κάποιο τρόπο από την ιαπωνική σειρά anime Attack On Titan“, λέει ο Robb, “με την έννοια ότι σε αυτή τη σειρά, δεν υπάρχει “καλός” ή “κακός” τύπος… και οι δύο πλευρές πιστεύουν ότι κάνουν το σωστό, αλλά και οι δύο διαπράττουν φρικαλεότητες και κακό”.

Μουσικά σε αυτή την κυκλοφορία, οι MACHINE HEAD έχουν εξελιχθεί, έχουν ενσωματώσει νέα στοιχεία, έχουν πειραματιστεί, χωρίς όμως ποτέ να χάσουν τις old school, underground ρίζες τους. Σαν ένα δέντρο με βαθιές ρίζες έχουν ανθίσει παραπάνω και έχουν κάνει βήματα παραπέρα. Τα καθαρά φωνητικά του Robb είναι πολύ συναισθηματικά και υπηρετούν το κάθε τραγούδι με μοναδικό τρόπο. Οι κιθάρες είναι ταυτόχρονα βάναυσες και μελωδικές, το groove σε πλημμυρίζει με ενέργεια και στη συνέχεια μια γαλήνια μελωδία σε πιάνει στον αέρα και σε παρασύρει. Ξέρω ότι είναι ακόμα Αύγουστος, αλλά το ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN που κυκλοφορεί την Παρασκευή 26 Αυγούστου από τη Nuclear Blast έχει ήδη μια θέση στις δικές μου 5 καλύτερες κυκλοφορίες του 2022 και είμαι σίγουρη ότι είναι ήδη κλασικό.

So the new Machine Head is in the player and the opening track is more than ten minutes long… Ok guys are making a statement let them bring it on. And they do. They start with an earie stripped down introduction which is more like a tale that climaxes as it unfolds to end up in a riff that brings to mind Harakiri For the Sky’s Fire Walk With Me! Dude! What’s that their trying on ?

As the album goes on there is no single song that gets tiresome and the riffing hammering you down! For how many albums can you say that you listen to it start to finish and like the album ? Very few and ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN is one of them. I can’t get over the earworm My hands are empty from the first time I listened to it, but having listened to the whole album I can say that I loved every single song from the first to the ninth track. Bloodshot, the tenth track will leave you and aftertaste of Judas Priest’s Painkiller which will definitely will pleasure the more classic listeners while Rotten has the trademark Machine Head pinched harmonics. In the closing track of the album MH are using an “autotuneish” effect in Robb’s voice, their trademark Machine Head guitar harmonics a beautiful guitar solo and a “villain” narration which makes it extremely theatrical and spooky which fits the concept of the album.

Set in a futuristic wasteland where the sky is always crimson red, ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN tells the tale of two characters, both faced with incalculable trauma, whose stories become bloodily entwined as this deep, dark record progresses. “The album and concept was loosely inspired by the Japanese anime series Attack On Titan,” says Robb, “in the sense that in that series, there is no “good” or “bad” guy… both sides believe they’re doing the right thing, but both are committing atrocities and evil.”

Musically in this release, MACHINE HEAD have evolved, incorporated new elements, experimented, while never losing their old school, underground roots. Like a tree with deep roots they have flourished above and have gone steps further. Robb’s clean vocals are very sentimental and they serve each song in unique way. The guitars are both devastating and melodic, the groove over-floods you with energy and then a serene melody catches you mid air and carries you. I know it’s still August but ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN, out Friday August 26^th on Nuclear Blast, already has a place in my top 5 releases of 2022 and I am sure it is already a classic.

Το ‘ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN’ είναι ένα concept άλμπουμ 13 κομματιών που διαδραματίζεται σε μια αποδεκατισμένη φουτουριστική ερημιά όπου ο ουρανός είναι βαμμένος κατακόκκινος. Η ουσία της ιστορίας βασίζεται σε 2 κύριους χαρακτήρες:

Χαρακτήρας #1 Ares: (προφέρεται Aries), ο κύριος μας, ο οποίος χάνει τον έρωτα της ζωής του (Amethyst) και ξεκινάει μια δολοφονική μανία εναντίον της άθλιας σέκτας που ευθύνεται για τη δολοφονία της.

Χαρακτήρας #2 Έρως: (προφέρεται Βέλη) ο δράστης, ο οποίος χάνει τη μητέρα του από υπερβολική δόση ναρκωτικών και ριζοσπαστικοποιείται στη συνέχεια. Ο Έρος ξεφεύγει από τα όρια του, εκδηλώνοντας το δικό του φονικό παραλήρημα.

Οι στίχοι περιγράφουν λεπτομερώς πώς οι ζωές τους διαπλέκονται.

Ο ιδρυτής των MACHINE HEAD, Robb Flynn, σχολιάζει:

“Χάρη στα 2 έφηβα αγόρια μου, η οικογένειά μου έχει πάθει εμμονή με αυτή τη φοβερή ιαπωνική σειρά anime που ονομάζεται “Attack On Titan”. Το concept του άλμπουμ ήταν χαλαρά εμπνευσμένο από τη σειρά με την έννοια ότι στην ιστορία δεν υπάρχει “καλός” ή “κακός” τύπος, και οι δύο χαρακτήρες πιστεύουν ότι κάνουν το σωστό πράγμα όπως ισχύει για την ύπαρξή τους, αλλά μην μπερδευτείτε, και οι δύο διαπράττουν πράξεις καθαρής θηριωδίας και κακού. Το εναρκτήριο κομμάτι “SLAUGHTER THE MARTYR” είναι ουσιαστικά η ιστορία καταγωγής του χαρακτήρα μας #1″.

Unhollow is the title of the second video single Machine Head present from their upcoming album. MACHINE HEAD‘s colossal tenth album, the immense and unapologetic, ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN, coming August 26th, 2022 via Nuclear Blast Records X Imperium Recordings.

‘ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN’ is a 13 track concept album set in a decimated futuristic wasteland where the sky is stained crimson red.
The crux of the story is based on 2 main characters: Character #1 Ares: (pronounced Aries), our main, who loses the love of his life (Amethyst) and goes on a murderous rampage against the vile sect responsible for her murder. Character #2 Eros: (pronounced Arrows) the perpetrator, who loses his mother to a drug overdose and becomes radicalized in the aftermath. Eros goes off the deep end manifesting his own killing spree.

The lyrics detail how their lives intertwine. MACHINE HEAD founder Robb Flynn comments: “Thanks to my 2 teenage boys my family has become obsessed with this awesome Japanese anime series called “Attack On Titan.” The album’s concept was loosely inspired by the series in the sense that in the storyline, there is no “good” or “bad” guy, both characters believe they’re doing the right thing as it applies to their being, but make no mistake, both are committing acts of pure atrocity and evil. The opening track “SLAUGHTER THE MARTYR” is basically our character #1’s origin story.”

Λίγο πριν ανέβουν στη σκηνή του θρυλικού Sweden Rock festival, η μπάντα αποκαλύπτει ακόμα ένα μελωδικό death metal διαμάντι, που οδηγεί στο πολυαναμενόμενο ντεμπούτο άλμπουμ τους “Days Of The Lost“, το οποίο θα κυκλοφορήσει στις 12 Αυγούστου μέσω της Nuclear Blast.

Ο frontman Mikael Stanne μιλάει για το κομμάτι: “Το “The Needless End” ασχολείται με την παραλυτική αδυναμία αντιμετώπισης αφηρημένων προβλημάτων. Θέματα που απλά φαίνονται πολύ μεγάλα ή ακατανόητα μένουν στο περιθώριο προκειμένου να ασχοληθούμε με πιο άμεσα αλλά λιγότερο σημαντικά ζητήματα. Καταλήγουμε κάπου όχι επειδή το θέλουμε αλλά επειδή δεν μπορέσαμε να καταλάβουμε τι έπρεπε να κάνουμε. Υπάρχει μια ένταση σε αυτό το τραγούδι και μια ανεβαστική μελωδία που νομίζω ότι ταιριάζει σε αυτή την ιδέα. Ανάμεσα σε όλο τον θυμό και την αγανάκτηση είναι επίσης ελπιδοφόρο και έχει ένα μεταδοτικό groove και ορμή.”

Three singles have been released so far by the new Gothenburg outfit THE HALO EFFECT and they have raised a lot of attention and praise in the media and fan world.

Just before hitting the stage at legendary Sweden Rock festival, the band yet reveals another melodic death metal gem,  leading up to their highly anticipated debut album “Days Of The Lost”, to be released on August 12^th via Nuclear Blast.

Frontman Mikael Stanne tells about the track: “The Needless End deals with the crippling inability to deal with abstract problems. Issues that just seem too huge or incomprehensible falls by the wayside in order to deal with more immediate but less important issues. We end up somewhere not because we want to but because we were unable to understand what we needed to do. There is an intensity to this song and a uplifting melody that I think suits this idea. Among all the anger and resentment it’s also hopeful and has an infectious groove and drive.”
