Ο λόγος για την επιστροφή των gothic metalers Lake Of Tears που εντάξει, ας είμαστε πιο ακριβείς στις περιγραφές μας οι Lake Of Tears πλέον είναι ο εξής ένας… Daniel Brennare (Vocals, guitars, keyboards). Κι ενώ ξεκινά το Ominous με μια obvious διάθεση να πιάσει το goth rock κοινό στο At The Destination συνεχίζει με μια ατμοσφαιρική αργόσυρτη σκοτεινιά με το In Wait And In Worries που αιτιολογεί και τα όσα ποιητικά γράφει το δελτίο τύπου για σκοτεινές μέρες, κατάθλιψη κλπ κλπ. Ομολογώ ότι σε αυτό ακριβώς το μοτίβο είναι και οι καλύτερες στιγμές του άλμπουμ, με ιδιαίτερη προτίμηση στα Lost In A Moment & The End Of This World που είναι πραγματικά πολύ όμορφες συνθέσεις και οι δύο. Κάπου στη μέση υπάρχει και μια έξαρση σχεδόν επική με το ομώνυμο χωρισμένο σε δύο μέρη.

Αυτό που πάντα με ξένιζε στον ήχο των Lake Of Tears η φωνή του Daniel είναι αυτό που εξακολουθεί να με κρατάει πίσω από το να αγκαλιάσω εξ ολοκλήρου τις νέες του συνθέσεις. Για επιστροφή μετά από τόσα χρόνια δεν είναι αυτό το έπος που θα περίμενε κανείς αλλά δεν είναι και κακό. Έχω τη βαθιά ριζωμένη πεποίθηση ότι το καλό αποτέλεσμα έρχεται από ομάδες οπότε ίσως σε αυτό το ατομικό project που είναι η τωρινή ενσάρκωση των Lake Of Tears να λείπει αυτό ακριβώς. Η “κυκλοφορία της μπάλας” ανάμεσα σε 2 ή 3 δημιουργικά μυαλά ώστε να γίνεται πιο ενδιαφέρον και πλούσιο το αποτέλεσμα. Οπότε αυτό που μένει στο τέλος είναι κάποιες ενδιαφέρουσες μελωδίες αλλά σε σύνολο μια κυκλοφορία κατώτερη των προσδοκιών που ενδεχομένως να είχαν οι φίλοι της one man band. Το  Ominous κυκλοφορεί 19 Φερβουαρίου από την AFM Records.

Reading a press release that blows things just a little out of proportion like “ Any attempt to put “Ominous” into words and genre is doomed to fail, but maybe one could describe the quintessence as the illegitimate child of a short liaison between David Bowies “Space oddity”, the SISTERS OF MERCY and PINK FLOYD, with a touch of lurking doom.» I pour a cup of coffee before listening to the album.

I am talking about the gothic metal band Lake Of Tears who, to be more precise are now none other than… Daniel Brennare (Vocals, guitars, keyboards). Even though Ominous starts with an obvious attempt to address the goth rock fans in At The Destination it moves on to a more slow burning, dark atmosphere with In Wait And In Worries which is in perfect sync with what the press release refers to about dark days and depression represented in the new album. I have to admit that this is the pattern I found most interesting in the release with a preference to the songs Lost In A Moment & The End Of This World which are quite enchanting. In the middle of the album we find the epic heart of the release where there are two parts of what makes Ominous.

What used to be strange in every release of Lake Of Tears is Daniel’s voice which is still what’s holding me back from embracing the new releases. For a comeback album it’s not quite the opus we were hoping for but still it’s not half bad.

I have a strong belief that a great result is always the work of a good team, so maybe in this personal project that is now Lake Of Tears, that’s what missing. The “circulation of the ball” (as the friends of football would say) withing two or three creative minds so that the final product becomes richer in ideas. Therefore, the aftertaste of the Ominous is less than expected by the fans of the one-man band. Ominous will be released on February 19th through AFM Records.
