Σίγουρα ένα πολυαναμενόμενο φθινοπωρινό συναυλιακό γεγονός ήταν η Death Above Life περιοδεία των Orbit Culture μαζί με τους πολύ αγαπημένους Gaerea και τους Φινλανδούς Atlas. Βροχερό και άκρως ατμοσφαιρικό το βράδυ της 10ης Νοεμβρίου όπου η παραπάνω παρέα ήταν έτοιμη να μας πάρει μαζί της σε ένα δυναμικό, ατμοσφαιρικό και έντονο μουσικό ταξίδι. Όλα αυτά σε μια γωνιά της βορειοανατολικής Αγγλίας, στο NX Newcastle (ναι ναι, στο εξωτικό Newcastle upon Tyne). Αν και Δευτέρα αρκετός κόσμος ήρθε από νωρίς για τους Atlas, και όσο η βραδιά προχωρούσε όλος και περισσότερος κόσμος έμπαινε στο venue. Σε γενικές γραμμές περίμενα λίγο περισσότερο κόσμο, αλλά οκ η Δευτέρα είναι και λίγο περίεργη ημέρα γενικά, ίσως λίγο δύσκολη για πολλούς.

Ήταν η πρώτη μου επαφή με τους Atlas, αφού δεν τους γνώριζα, και αν λατρεύω κάτι σε συναυλιακά γεγονότα είναι το να ανακαλύπτω νέες μπάντες που μιλάνε στην καρδιά μου. Και η αλήθεια είναι πως οι Atlas μου έκαναν αυτό το κλικ από το πρώτο κιόλας τραγούδι. Έρχονται από την Φινλανδία και αυτό-χαρακτηρίζονται ως northcore. Δυναμικοί και παθιασμένοι, επιθετικοί και συγκινητικοί. Αυτή ήταν η πρώτη γεύση που μου άφησαν οι Atlas.

΄Ολα τα μέλη της μπάντας ήταν άκρως ενεργητικά και εκφραστικά επάνω στην σκηνή. Βαριές κιθάρες και σπαρακτικά φωνητικά συνδυασμένα με υπέροχα φτιαγμένες μελαχγολικές μελωδίες και αιθέρια καθαρά φωνητικά. Ενώ η δισκογραφία και τα τραγούδια των Atlas δεν μου ήταν οικεία, απόλαυσα όλο τους το σετ και το πρώτο πράγμα που έκανα την επόμενη ημέρα ήταν να κάτσω να τους ακόυσω. Metalcore φινλανδικής μελαχγολίας….please give me more!! It was a pleasure Atlas, welcome to my daily playlists.

Και σειρά έχουν οι πολύ πολύ αγαπημένοι μου Πορτογάλοι, Gaerea. Η αλήθεια είναι πως ανυπομονούσα να τους δω live, αφού θα ήταν η πρώτη μου φορά αλλά σίγουρα δεν ήμουν προετοιμασμένη για αυτό που θα ακολούθουσε. Οι Gaerea είναι μια μουσική οντότητα. 5 μουσικοί με κουκούλες ανεβαίνουν σιγά σιγά στην σκηνή. Δεν ξέρεις ποιοι είναι, αν χαμογελάνε ή οχι, αν σε κοιτάζουν ή οχι. Δεν βλέπεις καμία έκφραση στο πρόσωπο τους και αυτό είναι το πιο μαγικό απ΄όλα, γιατί νιώθεις πως ξεχειλίζουν απο συναισθήματα όσο είναι εκεί επάνω κι ας μην βλέπεις τις εκφράσεις τους.

Όλοι τους φοβερά εκφραστικοί αλλά ομολογουμένως ο Guilherme Henriques κλέβει την παράσταση και σε μαγνητίζει. Θεατρικά και προσεγμένα “αδέξιος” στις κινήσεις του, μαγικά εκκεντρικός, γεμάτος πάθος και αυτοπεποίθηση. Αν σκεφτείς ποτέ να πάρεις photo pass για τους Gaerea, ετοιμάζου για cardio workout γιατί η κίνηση δεν σταμάτει πότε καθ’όλη την διάρκεια του set.

Τα Hellbound και Submerged, τα δύο singles από το αναμενόμενο Loss, άνοιξαν το σετ των Gaerea ενώ το υπόλοιπο σετ ήταν αποτελούμενο από τραγούδια του Mirage και του Coma. Μόνο για οχτώ κομμάτια έμειναν επάνω στην σκηνή οι Gaerea…και προφανώς ήθελα άλλα τόσα. Παρόλα αυτά μιλάμε για μία καθηλωτική εμφάνιση.

Μίνιμαλ φωτισμός, τέλειος ήχος, πυκνά blast beats, πλούσιες μελωδίες και ισχυρή σκηνική παρουσία που σε αφήνει υπνωτισμένο και γεμάτο ωμά, δυνατά συναισθήματα . Ατμόσφαιρα σκοτεινή, αμείλικτη και μεγαλωπρεπής. “Dancing with demons in this haunted embrace, where light is a memory lost in time’s chase. Whispers of sorrow, echo through my veins. These senseless thoughts, where anguish remains.” Gaerea, you have my heart! Until we meet again!

Και κάπως έτσι “επιστρέφουμε” στον βορρά και τους καταπληκτικούς Σουηδούς Orbit Culture που πήραν την σκυτάλη και μας χάρισαν ένα δυνατό, ανεβαστικό και με μαθηματική ακρίβεια εκτελεσμένο σετ. Death Above Life και φύγαμε για παγωμένο σουηδικό μελωδικό death και heartfelt αψεγάδιαστο groove metal.

Ήταν η δεύτερη φορά που έβλεπα τους Orbit Culture και με χαρά διαπίστωσα και πάλι, πως κάθε φορά αποδεικνύουν και ζωντανά ότι είναι μία απ’ τις πιο δυνατές μπάντες στον χώρο της metal αυτή τη στιγμή. Ακαταμάχητος ρυθμός και μεστός, βαρύς ήχος με τον Niklas Karlsson να γεμίζει την σκηνή με την επιβλητικότητα του. Παρόλο που δεν είναι πολύ κινητικός (ειδικά μετά τον ανεμοστρόβιλο Guilherme), έχει όμως τόσο δυνατή παρουσία που σου είναι δύσκολο να μην τον κοιτάς.

Tales of War, North Star of Nija, From the Inside, While We Serve ήταν κάποιες απ΄τις πολύ δυνατές στγμές των Orbit Culture την βραδιά της 10ης Νοεμβρίου. ΄Οχι ότι είχαν αδύναμες στιγμές, κάθε άλλο. Το κοινό ήθελε λίγο σπρώξιμο για να πάρει μπροστά (νομίζω είναι γενικό κακό του Newcastle κοινού αυτό) αλλά οι Orbit Culture είχαν τον τρόπο τους και έτσι άναψαν τα αίματα και είδαμε και λίγο mosh pit και crowd surfing τελικά, ειδικά προς το τέλος του setlist με τα Nerve, While We Serve και Hydra.

Με μαγεύει το πως οι Orbit Culture διατηρούν αυτή την βαρύτητα τους καθ’ όλη την διάρκεια της κάθε εμφανισής τους, αλλά ταυτόχρονα ξεχειλίζουν μελωδικότητα. Σα να λέμε και πιρουέτες και mosh pit, headbanging energy με μπαλετική εκλέπτυνση, marshmallows να ξεχειλίζουν από ορμητικό ηφαίστειο. Νομίζω καταλάβατε τι εννοώ, the best of both worlds, επιθετικότητα και μελωδικότητα.

Οι Orbit Culture ήταν αψεγάδιαστοι και σε απλά ελληνικά, τα πήραν όλα και τα σήκωσαν αποδεικνύοντας για ακόμα μια φορά πως είναι ένας ασταμάτητος χείμαρρος μουσικής ενέργειας, ακαταμάχητοι και συντριπτικοί. Orbit Culture, the future is yours and we are here to follow.

The Death Above Life tour by Orbit Culture, together with the much-loved Gaerea and the Finnish band Atlas, was definitely a highly anticipated autumn concert event. It was a rainy and highly atmospheric evening on November 10th, when the above bands were ready to take us on a dynamic, atmospheric and intense musical journey. All this in a corner of northeast of England, at NX Newcastle (yes, yes, in the exotic Newcastle upon Tyne). Although it was a Monday, quite a few people came early for Atlas, and as the evening progressed, more and more people entered the venue. In general, I expected more people attending the gig, but I guess Monday is a bit of a strange day in general, perhaps a little difficult for many.

It was my first encounter with Atlas, as I didn’t know them, and if there’s one thing I love about concerts is discovering new bands that speak to my heart. And the truth is that Atlas clicked with me from the very first song. They come from Finland and describe themselves as northcore. Dynamic and passionate, aggressive and moving, that was my first impression of Atlas.

All the band members were extremely energetic and expressive on stage. Heavy guitars and heart-wrenching vocals combined with beautifully crafted melancholic melodies and ethereal clean vocals. Although I was not familiar with Atlas’ discography and songs, I enjoyed their entire set, and the first thing I did the next day was to sit down and listen to them. Finnish melancholic metalcore…please give me more! It was a pleasure, Atlas, welcome to my daily playlists.

Next up are my beloved Portuguese, Gaerea. The truth is that I was looking forward to seeing them live, as it would be my first time, but I was definitely not prepared for what was to follow. Gaerea is a musical entity. Five musicians wearing hoods slowly climb onto the stage. You don’t know who they are, whether they are smiling or not, whether they are looking at you or not. You can’t see any expression on their faces, and that’s the most magical thing of all, because you feel that they are overflowing with emotion while they are up there, even though you can’t see their facial expressions.

All of them are incredibly expressive, but Guilherme Henriques steals the show and captivates you. Theatrical and deliberately “clumsy” in his movements, magically eccentric, full of passion and confidence. If you ever think about getting a photo pass for Gaerea, get ready for a cardio workout because the movement never stops throughout the entire set.

Hellbound and Submerged, the two singles from the anticipated Loss, opened Gaerea’s set, while the rest of the set consisted of songs from Mirage and Coma. Gaerea only stayed on stage for eight songs… and obviously I wanted just as many more. Nevertheless, we are talking about a captivating performance.

Minimal and on point lightning, perfect sound, dense blast beats, rich melodies, and a powerful stage presence that leaves you mesmerized and filled with raw, powerful emotions. The atmosphere is dark, relentless, and majestic. “Dancing with demons in this haunted embrace, where light is a memory lost in time’s chase. Whispers of sorrow, echo through my veins. These senseless thoughts, where anguish remains.” Gaerea, you have my heart! Thank you. Until we meet again!

And like so we “return” to the north and the incredible and powerful Swedish Orbit Culture, who took the baton and gave us a powerful, uplifting set performed with mathematical precision. Death Above Life and off we went for some frozen Swedish melodic death and heartfelt flawless groove metal.

It was the second time I saw Orbit Culture, and yes, I am happy to say that every time they prove live that they are one of the strongest bands in metal right now. Unstoppable rhythm and rich, heavy sound with Niklas Karlsson filling the stage with his imposing presence. Although he is not very mobile (especially after the whirlwind that is Guilherme), but he has such a strong stage presence that it is difficult not to look at him.

Tales of War, North Star of Nija, From the Inside, While We Serve were some of Orbit Culture’s strongest moments on the night of November 10th. Not that they had any weak moments, quite the contrary. The audience needed a little push to get going (I think this is a general problem with Newcastle audiences), but Orbit Culture had their way and got the crowd going, and we saw a bit of mosh pitting and crowd surfing, especially towards the end of the setlist with Nerve, While We Serve, and Hydra.

I am fascinated by how Orbit Culture maintain their gravitas throughout the concert while at the same time overflowing with melodiousness. It’s like pirouettes and mosh pits, headbanging energy with ballet-like refinement, marshmallows overflowing from a raging volcano. I think you get what I mean, the best of both worlds, aggression and melody.

Orbit Culture were flawless and, in simple terms, they swept us away and lifted it us up, proving once again that they are an unstoppable torrent of musical energy, unbeatable and beautifully overwhelming. Orbit Culture, the future is yours and we are here to follow.

Το νέο τους άλμπουμ ενσωματώνει όλα τα στοιχεία που δίνουν την ταυτότητα του συγκροτήματος. Πιασάρικα riff, ογκοδέστατα τύμπανα, σπαρακτικά φωνητικά και στοιχειωτικές μελωδίες. Όταν ακούσεις έστω και μια φορά Orbit Culture δεν παίζει να τους μπερδέψεις με κανένα άλλο συγκρότημα. Ομολογώ ότι εκτιμώ το σύνολο της δισκογραφίας τους ακόμη και τα πιο εμπορικά περάσματα που έκαναν στο Descent αλλά αυτό το άλμπουμ, το Death Above Life που κυκλοφορεί στις 3 Οκτωβρίου από τη Century Media έρχεται για να τους καθιερώσει. Μακάρι κάποια στιγμή να μπορέσουμε να τους δούμε ζωντανά και στη χώρα μας.

Ήδη από τα βίντεο που έχουν βγει στη δημοσιότητα η ανταπόκριση είναι πολύ θετική και το σύνολο του άλμπουμ απλά εμπλουτίζει και μεγαλώνει την καλή αυτή εντύπωση. Για μένα είναι σίγουρα με τις καλύτερες κυκλοφορίες του 2025. Το συνιστώ ανεπιφύλακτα και είμαι σίγουρη ότι δεν θα βγει από το player σας για πολύ καιρό.

ORBIT CULTURE is the next big thing on the scene. You might say that’s a bold statement, and I’ll tell you that I don’t write lightly because I always try to be very conservative in what I write so that I can be as honest and sincere as possible with you, who are reading these lines and every line I have ever written or will ever write. It is a band that has worked hard to gain recognition, and it took them many years and, from what it seems, they needed to be seen in a positive light for people to start embracing them.

Their music has a unique atmosphere, explosive energy, and captivating melodies combined in a modern way that makes them stand out and be recognizable. Their new album incorporates all the elements that give the band its identity. Catchy riffs, powerful drums, heart-wrenching vocals, and haunting melodies. Once you hear ORBIT CULTURE even once, there’s no mistaking them for any other band. I admit that I appreciate their entire discography, even their more commercial passages on Descent, but this album, Death Above Life, released on October 3 by Century Media, is set to establish them. I hope that someday we will be able to see them live in our country.

The response to the videos that have been released is already very positive, and the album as a whole simply enriches and enhances this good impression. For me, it is definitely one of the best releases of 2025. I highly recommend it and I am sure it will be on repeat on your player for a long time.

H Century Media Records είναι περήφανη που ανακοινώνει την υπογραφή της συμφωνίας με τους Σουηδούς ORBIT CULTURE. Με καταγωγή από τη μικρή πόλη Eksjö της Σουηδίας (που βρίσκεται μεταξύ των σεβαστών metal πόλεων του Γκέτεμποργκ και της Στοκχόλμης), το κουαρτέτο (κιθαρίστας και τραγουδιστής Niklas Karlsson, κιθαρίστας Richard Hansson, μπασίστας Fredrik Lennartsson και ντράμερ Christopher Wallerstedt) έχει εξελιχθεί σε μια παγκόσμια δύναμη, ενώνοντας μεταξύ τους, riffs που είναι εξίσου thrash, death metal και industrial με εντυπωσιακά hooks και μια πολυεπίπεδη ατμόσφαιρα που προσκαλεί τη σύγκριση με τους GOJIRA, METALLICA και STATIC-X, ενώ παράλληλα σμιλεύει κάτι που είναι μοναδικά δικό τους.

Century Media Records is proud to announce the signing of Sweden’s modern metal standard bearers, ORBIT CULTURE. Hailing from the small town of Eksjö, Sweden (located between the revered metal cities of Gothenburg and Stockholm), the quartet (guitarist and vocalist Niklas Karlsson, guitarist Richard Hansson, bassist Fredrik Lennartsson and drummer Christopher Wallerstedt) has grown into a global force, melding together, riffs that are equal parts thrash, death metal and industrial with arresting hooks and a layered atmosphere that invites comparison to GOJIRA, METALLICA and STATIC-X while carving out something that is uniquely their own.

At the time of this announcement, the band is #1 on Sirius XM’s Liquid Metal Following the U.S. tour, ORBIT CULTURE will then embark on an extensive tour of Europe, fittingly titled, the “Descending Into Madness” tour.

Για ακόμη μία φορά λοιπόν το σύγχρονο metal μουσικό μείγμα των Orbit Culture είναι καλοδουλεμένο και εξαιρετικά εκτελεσμένο. Oι Orbit Culture χτυπάνε bullseye, ακούγονται δεμένοι και στοχευμένοι και καταφέρνουν να παραδώσουν ένα επιβλητικό Descent, διάρκειας 50 σχεδόν λεπτών, με αρκετά δυνατά τραγούδια.

Και λέω αρκετά γιατί σίγουρα δεν ήταν όλα τα τραγούδια εξίσου μαγνητικά, στην δική μου περίπτωση τουλάχιστον. Και σίγουρα αυτό δεν ήταν λόγω σύνθεσης αλλά περισσότερο λόγω παραγωγής μάλλον. Ταπείνη μου γνώμη πως σε κάποια κομμάτια του δίσκου όλοι οι ήχοι είναι παρόντες στην ίδια εμβέλεια και πυκνότητα, με αποτέλεσμα να μου ακούγονται όλα απλά too much.

Τραγούδια που ξεχωρίζουν για εμένα είναι το Sorrower με εξαιρετικές κιθάρες και ένα κομμάτι που σε κάνει απλά να χαμογελάς από ικανοποίηση, το καλύτερο για εμένα κομμάτι του Descent. Όπως επίσης και τo Undercity, το progressive-like From The Inside και το The Aisle Of Fire, τα οποία είναι απλά συμπαγείς μπάλες κατεδάφισης.

Όσοι γνωρίζουν τους Orbit Culture ήδη, αλλά και όχι μόνο, σίγουρα θα μείνουν ευχαριστημένοι με το Descent που νομίζω πως συνεχίζει από εκεί που μας άφησε το Nija του 2020. Δυναμικοί, ενεργητικοί, με αρκετό χορταστικό περιεχόμενο, πλούσιες συνθέσεις και πολύχρωμες μελωδίες , οι Orbit Culture μας δείχνουν ότι είναι σε εξαιρετική φόρμα και μας χαρίζουν ένα δυναμικό και καλοδουλεμένο Descent που σίγουρα θα τους ανεβάσει στο επόμενο σκαλοπάτι της καριέρας τους.

Orbit Culture are known in the metal scene since 2013. After several line-up changes, they came to shake things up with their amazing album Nija (2020) and their latest EP, entitled Shaman (2021). Melodic death metal with dark groove and metalcore doses of extremely high quality, were the main sounds that Orbit Culture gave us over the last 3 years and now I’m curious to see if and how the four-piece Swedish band will evolve their sound in their latest album Descent, which was released on August 18 via Seek & Strike records.

In a nutshell Orbit Culture’s modern metal music mix is well crafted and superbly executed and they do hit bullseye once again, as they sound cohesive and focused, and they manage to deliver a dominating Descent, which lasts almost 50 minutes long and it is filled with several powerful songs.

However, not all the songs were equally magnetic during the Descent, not in my case at least. And certainly, this wasn’t due to composition or performance issues, but I think it was mostly a production issue. It’s my humble opinion that in couple tracks of the album all sounds are present at the same depth and density, and they just sounded too much to me.

Songs, though, that stand out for me are the Sorrower, with excellent guitars; a track that just makes you smile with satisfaction, and for me the best track of Descent, as well as the Undercity, the progressive-like From the Inside and The Aisle of Fire, which sound like solid wrecking balls.

Those who know Orbit Culture already, but not only, will surely be pleased with Descent as, I believe, it continues from where Nija (2020) left us. Dynamic, energetic, with plenty of satisfying content, rich compositions and colourful melodies, Orbit Culture show us that they are in great shape and give us a powerful and well-crafted Descent that will surely help them climb onto the next step of their career.
