Τον Οκτώβριο του περασμένου έτους ο ιθύνων νους των Firewind και το κιθαριστικό είδωλο, Gus G., κυκλοφόρησε το νέο του σόλο άλμα με τίτλο Quantum Leap μέσω της AFM Records. Μετά από μια εντυπωσιακή μουσική καριέρα 20 και πλέον ετών, εννέα δισκογραφικές κυκλοφορίες με τους Firewind, καθώς και ηχογραφήσεις και περιοδείες με συγκροτήματα όπως οι Mystic Prophecy, Nightrage, Arch Enemy, Dream Evil και Ozzy Osbourne, το Quantum Leap είναι το τέταρτο, και εξ ολοκλήρου ορχηστρικό σόλο άλμπουμ του Gus G., με 10 κομμάτια που αφενός αναδεικνύουν το χαρακτηριστικό στυλ παιξίματος για το οποίο είναι γνωστός ο Gus, αφετέρου οδηγούν τους οπαδούς σε νέα μονοπάτια.

Το Quantum Leap δημιουργήθηκε κατά τη διάρκεια της παγκόσμιας πανδημίας που, δυστυχώς, εμπόδισε το ομώνυμο άλμπουμ των Firewind από το 2020 να αποκτήσει πραγματική δυναμική. Ακινητοποιημένος από τα μέτρα καραντίνας που τον κράτησαν στο σπίτι, ο Gus άρχισε να συγκεντρώνει μουσικές ιδέες για να απασχολείται, γεγονός που οδήγησε στην ολοκληρωμένη προσπάθεια να γράψει και να ηχογραφήσει ένα άλμπουμ κατά τη διάρκεια του καλοκαιριού του 2021 “Δεν έφτιαξα το Quantum Leap με την πρόθεση να είναι το επόμενο στον κύκλο των σόλο άλμπουμ”, παραδέχεται ο Gus. “Ήταν περισσότερο μια περίπτωση του “Τι άλλο υπάρχει;” Χρειαζόμουν τη δημιουργική διέξοδο”.

Μόλις λίγους μήνες μετά την επιτυχημένη κυκλοφορία του άλμπουμ μέσω της AFM, σήμερα ο κιθαρίστας μοιράστηκε ένα ολοκαίνουργιο video clip για το τραγούδι ‘Night Driver’! Ο Gus σχολιάζει: “Το Night Driver είναι ίσως το πιο στυλιστικά διαφορετικό τραγούδι του Quantum Leap. Του έδωσα ένα synth wave twist και τώρα έχει αυτό το vhs vibe της ταινίας των 80s!”

October last year seen Firewind mastermind and guitar icon, Gus G., release his critically acclaimed, new solo affair entitled Quantum Leap via AFM Records. Following an impressive music career of more than 20 years, nine record releases with Firewind, as well as recording and touring with acts such Mystic Prophecy, Nightrage, Arch Enemy, Dream Evil and Ozzy Osbourne, Quantum Leap is Gus G.‘s fourth, and entirely instrumental solo album, featuring 10 tracks that both showcase the distinctive playing style Gus is known for yet taking fans into new territory.

Quantum Leap came together over the course of the worldwide pandemic that, unfortunately, prevented Firewind’s self-titled album from 2020 from gaining any real momentum. Immobilized by the quarantine measures that kept him at home, Gus began compiling musical ideas to keep himself occupied, which led to the full-on effort to write and record an album during the summer of 2021 “I didn’t make Quantum Leap with the intention of it being the next one in the cycle of solo albums,” Gus admits. “It was more of a case of, ‘What else is there?’ I needed the creative outlet.”

Just a few months since the successful album release via AFM, today the guitarist has shared a brand new music video clip for the song ‘Night Driver’! Gus comments: “Night Driver is probably the most stylistically diverse song of Quantum Leap. I gave it a synth wave twist and it now has that 80s vhs movie vibe!”

Χωρίς να επιδίδεται σε κιθαριστικές «ακρότητες» για να κάνει επίδειξη δύναμης δομεί μελωδίες πάνω στην κιθάρα και ακροβατεί ανάμεσα στην τεχνικότητα, το ρόκ, το metal αλλά κυρίως το συναίσθημα. Όλα τα θέματα είναι έτσι φτιαγμένα που δεν απευθύνονται αποκλειστικά σε μουσικούς, αλλά σε όποιον ακούει μουσική. Για εμένα προσωπικά που με κουράζουν τα ορχηστρικά άλμπουμ, το Quantum Leap ήταν μια ευχάριστη εξαίρεση. Ο τρόπος που δομεί τα θέματα ο Gus είναι αφηγηματικός με τέτοιο τρόπο που εξαλείφει την απουσία των στίχων. Πρωταγωνιστής η μελωδία και η τεχνικότητα υποστηρικτής του αποτελέσματος, και όχι κύριος στόχος. Όταν δεν έχεις την ανάγκη να επιδείξεις την ικανότητά σου, αφήνεις όλο το χώρο στη μουσική να γεμίσει το χώρο και να απλωθεί και αυτό είναι διάχυτο ως συναίσθημα στο Quantum Leap .

Εξάρσεις που δείχνουν τον heavy χαρακτήρα του Gus αλλά και περάσματα όπως το Night Driver που μας θυμίζουν κινηματογραφικά σκηνικά και μας κάνουν να θέλαμε να παρακολουθήσουμε ταινία με soundtrack τον guitar hero. Ο ίδιος ο Gus όπως μας αποκάλυψε στη συνέντευξη που μας παραχώρησε (δείτε την ΕΔΩ) δημιούργησε αυτό το άλμπουμ ως δημιουργική διαφυγή την περίοδο της καραντίνας χωρίς καν να έχει τη διάθεση να περιοδεύσει σε υποστήριξη του αλλά για εμάς που το ακούμε είναι σαν να άνοιξε ένα παραθυράκι και να άφησε να δούμε ακριβώς τι συμβαίνει μέσα στο μυαλό και την ψυχή του. Συνοδεύεται από ένα δεύτερο άλμπουμ με ζωντανές ηχογραφήσεις επιλεγμένων εμφανίσεων του συγκροτήματος.

Απολαυστικό και γεμάτο από ιδέες, εναλλαγές και ποιοτικές κιθαριστικές διαδρομές όπως μόνο ο Gus μπορεί να της δημιουργήσει το Quantum Leap είναι η απολαυστικότερη instrumental κυκλοφορία της χρονιάς. Προσωπικά το προτείνω σε δυνατή ένταση κατά τη διάρκεια μιας αγαπημένης διαδρομής χωρίς κυκλοφοριακή συμφόρηση.

Never before has a solo release by Gus G been more personal than Quantum Leap that is set to be released on October 8^th through AFM Records. Gus chooses for the very first time to go fully instrumental and the result is transcending and enchantingly revealing for the virtuoso.

Noble enough to let aside his master skills on the guitar he builds melodies and balances between technicality, rock and metal but most of all emotion.  All themes are written in a way that they reach beyond musicians to whomever listens to music. I personally get extremely tired of instrumental albums and Quantum Leap is a pleasant exception. The way Gus structures the music, sounds as if he is narrating a story in a way that illuminates the absence of lyrics. The star of the album is melody and skill is a firm supporter of the result but not the main goal. When there’s no need to prove your quality as a guitarist, you let space overflow with music and that is the overall feeling throughout Quantum Leap.

There are outbursts showcasing Gus’s heavy background but also moments like Night Driver which bring to mind cinematic pictures and make us want to watch a film with the guitar hero’s soundtrack. Gus himself revealed in the interview he gave Metalradio.gr (interview in Greek HERE) that this album was his creative release during the quarantine of covid-19 era and that he didn’t plan on touring in support of it but for us who listen to it, sounds like he cracked the window to his mind and soul.

Luscious in ideas, diversity and quality guitar paths, in the way only Gus knows how to lead us Quantum Leap is the most indulging instrumental release of the year. Personally, I suggest that you play it loud during your favorite ride on a road with no traffic.

Given the chance by the release of the upcoming Gus G solo release we had the chance to talk to “the man” himself and being both Greek, we did chat in Greek, sorry if it’s all Greek to you. Gus talks about the album, the inspiration and how he took a leap with Quantum Leap, out October 8th on AFM records, and created his first fully instrumental album.

Gus G‘s third single from his upcoming solo release Quantum Leap just dropped and it’s title is Enigma Of Life.

As he explained in a video a few days ago, the title of the album is inspired by the fact that in this release he steps up and takes the risk of releasing a fully instrumental album as covid kept him from flying and collaborating with other artists but couldn’t put his inspiration on lock down. This is the third single after Exosphere and Fierce. Quantum Leap will be out October 8th on AFM Records.

Στο βίντεο ο Gus εξηγεί οτι ο τίτλος αντιπροσωπεύει το ρίσκο του να κυκλοφορήσει τον πρώτο δίσκο του χωρίς τη συμμετοχή τραγουδιστών. Θα είναι η πρώτη του προσωπική κυκλοφορία μόνο με ορχηστρικές κιθαριστικές συνθέσεις, μιας και ενώ είχε το χρόνο λόγω lock down να είναι δημιουργικός δεν μπορούσε να ταξιδέψει και να συνεργαστεί με άλλους μουσικούς. Σύντομα περιμένουμε το τρίτο single μετά τα Exosphere και Fierce.

Gus G announced the release of his new solo album set to be release in October through AFM Records, entitled Quantum Leap.

As he explains in the video of his announcement the video the title of the album is inspired by the fact that in this release he steps up and takes the risk of releasing a fully instrumental album as covid kept him from flying and collaborating with other artists but couldn’t put his inspiration on lock down. Το πολύ ιδιαίτερο βίντεο που εμπνευστηκε ο Gus παρακολουθούμε μια ιστορία παρόμοια με τη νεκρή νύφη του Tim Burton. Όπως εξηγεί ο ίδιος «Σκέφτηκα το concept ενός μοναχικού Rock star που βρίσκει την αληθινή αγάπη στα μάτια της “Necromantissa” –  ένα κορίτσι που πριν κρατούσε όμηρο στο υπόγειό του. Η μουσική τελικά τους ενώνει και φτιάχνουν μια Metal band. Εφιάλτης ή πραγματικότητα;

Διασκεδάσαμε πάρα πολύ στα γυρίσματα με το πλήρες μακιγιάζ μας. Αγαπώ κάποια black metal & shock rock  αισθητικά στοιχεία και ήθελα να δοκιμάσω κάτι διαφορετικό, αντί για το κλασσικό performance video. Και φυσικά ήθελα και ένα βίντεο με τις γάτες μου! Πολλά ευχαριστώ στον Παναγιώτη Κουντουρά για την εξαιρετική του σκηνοθεσία, στη σύντροφό μου και στις γάτες μας Marquise και Leon.»

Second video single for Gus G entitled Fierce se to be included in his upcoming album “Quantum Leap”, which will be released on October 8^th through AFM Records.

As Gus himself describes: “I came up with the concept of a lonely Rock star who eventually finds true love in the eyes of “Necromantissa” –  a girl he previously kept hostage in his dungeon. Music finally unites them and they live happily ever after and even form a Metal band. Nightmare or reality??

We had tons of fun shooting this, getting in full makeup. I love certain black metal & shock rock  aesthetics & wanted to try something different, instead of doing yet another performance video. And I also wanted to make a video with my cats too.
