Ο γνωστός δεξιοτέχνης της κιθάρας Kosta Vreto (WARDRUM) κάνει guest περάσματα σε τρία τραγούδια αλλά επιπλέον κάνει την ενορχήστρωση στα ορχηστρικά και χορωδιακά μέρη του άλμπουμ μαζί με τον Sakis Bandis (HORIZON’S END, HAIL SPIRIT NOIR). Την παραγωγή έχει επιμεληθεί ο Kosta Vreto μαζί μες τον ιθύνοντα νου, κιθαρίστα και τραγουδιστή της μπάντας Constantin Maris, στο LittleBig Studio, στη Θεσσαλονίκη.

Αναφορικά με την παραγωγή θα πούμε ότι παρόλο που υπάρχουν ορχήστρες για πρώτη φορά για τους FORBIDDEN SEED αυτές είναι αρκετά «πίσω» ενώ ο ήχος είναι έντονα κιθαριστικός με τις κιθάρες να παίζουν πρωταγωνιστικό ρόλο. Ερμηνευτικά ο Κωνσταντίνος στα φωνητικά έχει εξελιχθεί αρκετά και έχει αφήσει πίσω του την έντονη επιρροή που τον ακολουθούσε μέχρι και τώρα του Matt Barlow. Η ερμηνεία του ίσως για πρώτη φορά να έχει και αναφορές στον αγαπημένο του David Bowie. Μουσικά οι συνθέσεις είναι σαν υβρίδιο ανάμεσα στους Savatage και Evergrey, ίσως και λίγο Kamelot, με τις μπαλάντες του άλμπουμ να θυμίζουν έντονα WASP.

Εκτός από τον Κώστα Βρετό (που δεν τον λες ακριβώς και guest) στην παρουσία του στο άλμπουμ το άλμπουμ έχει εμπλουτιστεί με την παρουσία της Ρούμπη Μπουζιώτη, του Δημήτρη Γκουτζiαμάνη, του Σάκη Μπαντή και του Άγγελου Γερογιάννη.

Η αφήγηση της ιστορίας, τόσο συνθετικά όσο και στιχουργικά, είναι πολύ καλά ισορροπημένη με το αποτέλεσμα να έχει μια πολύ καλή ροή. Οι συνθέσεις είναι καλοδουλεμένες και τα «θεατρικά» στοιχεία που συνθέτουν το σκηνικό της ιστορίας δεν «φορτώνουν» το τελικό αποτέλεσμα αλλά το εξυπηρετούν. Σε σύνολο είναι μια δουλειά πολύ φιλόδοξη ως σύλληψη που το αποτέλεσμά της βγήκε πολύ καλό τηρουμένων των αναλογιών και των μέσων που είχε η μπάντα.

Sunday afternoon and I’m a guest of FORBIDDEN SEED and more specifically Constantin Maris for an exclusive first listen of their third album. Concept album with The Crow theme both from the movie and the comic book. This is the first of two parts entitled On Blackest Wings, Shadow of the Crow Pt. I which is out on Friday, February 25th via Steel Gallery.

The well-known guitar virtuoso Kosta Vreto (WARDRUM) makes guest appearances on three songs but in addition he does arrangements of the instrumental and choral parts of the album together with Sakis Bandis (HORIZON’S END, HAIL SPIRIT NOIR). The production has been handled by Kosta Vreto together with the band’s mastermind, guitarist and vocalist Constantin Maris, at LittleBig Studio, in Thessaloniki.

Regarding the production we will say that although there are orchestras for the first time for FORBIDDEN SEED, they are quite in the “background” while the sound is strongly guitar driven with the guitars playing the leading role. The performance of Constantin on vocals has evolved quite a bit and he has left behind the strong influence that he has had up until now of Matt Barlow. His performance may for the first time also have references to his beloved David Bowie. Musically the compositions are like a hybrid between Savatage and Evergrey, maybe even a bit of Kamelot, with the ballads on the album strongly reminiscent of WASP.

Apart from Kosta Vreto (you wouldn’t exactly call him a guest) in his presence on the album, the album is enriched with the presence of Roubi Bouzioti, Dimitris Goutziamanis, Angelos Gerogiannis, Sakis Bandis.

The storytelling, both compositionally and lyrically, is very well balanced with the result having a very good flow. The compositions are well crafted and the “theatrical” elements that make up the backdrop of the story don’t “overload” the final result but serve it. As a whole, the album is a very ambitious work as a concept and the result came out very good considering the means the band had at hand and how they utilised them.

Το “On Blackest Wings, Shadow of the Crow Pt.I” είναι ένα concept άλμπουμ, βασισμένο σε μεγάλο βαθμό στο κόμικ και την ταινία της δεκαετίας του ’90 “The Crow“, εστιάζοντας περισσότερο στην ανθρώπινη πλευρά της ιστορίας. Όπως υποδηλώνει ο τίτλος, η ιστορία θα ολοκληρωθεί σε επόμενη κυκλοφορία. Το νέο άλμπουμ χωρίζεται σε τρεις πράξεις, με το καθένα να υπηρετεί ένα διαφορετικό κομμάτι της ιστορίας, ένα διαφορετικό είδος συναισθήματος, με 16 συνολικά κομμάτια.

Ο τραγουδιστής/κιθαρίστας των Forbidden Seed, Constantin, δήλωσε: «Οι περισσότεροι γνωρίζουν το “The Crow” από την ταινία του 1994, όταν στην πραγματικότητα οι χαρακτήρες και το κόμικ δημιουργήθηκαν το 1989, πολύ πριν τα κόμικ ήταν δροσερά. Είναι σκοτεινό, πολύ γοτθικό για το σύνολο Η ατμόσφαιρα των κόμικς της εποχής και απίστευτα καλλιτεχνική. Πραγματικά με εκπλήσσει που κανείς, απ’ όσο ξέρω, δεν έχει κάνει άλμπουμ γι’ αυτό ακόμα. Θα ήταν ψέμα αν σας έλεγα ότι η ταινία και τα κόμικ Δεν έχουν τεράστιο αντίκτυπο πάνω μου όταν μεγάλωνα, οπότε αυτός είναι ο τρόπος μου να αποτίσω φόρο τιμής σε έναν από τους αγαπημένους μου χαρακτήρες και ιστορίες».

After almost four years since the release of “The Grand Masquerade”, Forbidden Seed are ready to release their third album, “On Blackest Wings, Shadow of the Crow Pt.I”. Today the band also reveals the album cover, created once more by Jim Evenidis (Icon Filmworx). 

“On Blackest Wings, Shadow of the Crow Pt.I” is a concept album, largerly based on the 90s comic book and film “The Crow”, focusing more in the human side of the story. As the title suggests, the story will be concluded in a later release. The new album is devided in three acts, with each one serving a different part of the story, a different type of emotion, with 16 tracks in total.

Forbidden Seed’s singer/guitarist Constantin stated: ” Most people know “The Crow” by the 1994 film, when in fact the characters and the comic was created back in 1989, long before comics were cool. Its dark, way too gothic for the overall comics vibe of the time and incredibly artistic. It really suprises me that no one, as far as I know, haven’t made an album about it yet. It would be a lie if I told you that the movie and the comics didn’t have a huge impact on me when I was growing up, so this is my way to pay tribute to one of my favorite characters and stories”.

Πιο συγκεκριμένα ο ιθύνοντας νους, φωνή, κιθάρα και ψυχή της μπάντας Κωνσταντίνος Μάρης, ανέβασε ένα βίντεο που ακούγεται μέρος από τις ηχογραφήσεις του νέου υλικού της μπάντας. A small snippet of the recording for their upcoming third album was published by Forbidden Seed.

In particular, the band’s singer and main composer Constantine Maris has uploaded in his Instagram account a video where we can listen to a part of the recorded parts for the new album. Up till now we have no further details about the release but all we can share from the inside information we have is that the release will be more than interesting. Listen to the expert below:

Πρόκειται για το The Grand Masquerade ομότιτλο του άλμπουμ τους και στιγμές από ζωντανές εμφανίσεις της μπάντας. Οι Forbidden Seed αυτό τον καιρό είναι έτοιμοι συνθετικά για το επόμενο δισκογραφικό τους βήμα. Έχουν ήδη ηχογραφήσει τύμπανα και κάποιες κιθάρες αλλά τα δύο lockdown έχουν φρενάρει προς το παρών τις εξελίξεις. Για αυτό είπαν να μας κρατήσουν ζεστούς με το βίντεο.

Το πρώτο τραγούδι από τους Hesperian Opus που μπορείτε να ακούσετε παρακάτω και έδωσε τον τίτλο στο ντεμπούτο τους. Το συγκρότημα που όπως γράφει στο δελτίο τύπου η εταιρεία τους Steel Gallery συνδυάζει παραδεισένιες κιθάρες που οι χορδές τους παίρνουν φωτιά. Μπάσο σε ροκ ρυθμούς και τύμπανα που κρατούν τα πάντα σε ρυθμό. Έτσι περιγράφουν τον ήχο τους οι Hesperian Opus για το ντεμπούτο άλμπουμ τους “Chasing The Light”.

Η σύνθεση του συγγροτήματος περιλαμβάνει τον Harry Loisios στις κιθάρες, τον Τάσο Κροκόδειλο στα φωνητικά, τον Christ Stergiannidis στο μπάσο (Darklon, Paladine) και στα τύμπανα τον Dimitris Karageorgos. Neoclassical Power Metal με μια πινελιά από Hard Rock. Η ηχογράφηση, μίξη και παραγωγή έγινε στα Devasoundz Studio από τον Thimios Krikos. Το mastering ανέλαβε ο Kostas Scandalis (Horizon’s End, ex-Wardrum, Remaster Warrior at Arkeyn Steel Recs). Το εξώφυλλο δημιούργησε ο George Zacharoglou.
