Έχω παρακολουθήσει μερικά livestreams αφότου ο covid τα έκανε “μόδα” και πάντα μου έλειπε ο παλμός και το πάθος που έχει ένα πραγματικό live, οπότε ήμουν μάλλον επιφυλακτική για το τι θα παρακολουθούσα…

Ωστόσο, πρέπει να λάβουμε υπόψη το γεγονός ότι ο Dani Filth είναι ένας ιδιοφυής καλλιτέχνης και θα γινόταν ένας ιδιοφυής σκηνοθέτης αν ήθελε να το επιχειρήσει, ειδικά σε θρίλερ, καθώς η αισθητική του είναι ένα μεγάλο μέρος της επιτυχίας του CoF.

Το Livestream ξεκίνησε ακριβώς όπως είχε προγραμματιστεί με ένα πολύ ζωηρό chatbox στο πλάι, ωστόσο το έκρυψα προκειμένου να απολαύσω πλήρως την παράσταση. Το σκηνικό ήταν ένας κύκλος από φως, πυροτεχνήματα και σκηνικά φτιαγμένα από δέντρα, νεκροκεφαλές και καπνό από τη μηχανή καπνού.

Οι Cradle Of Filth έπαιξαν το Dusk And Her Embrace στο σύνολό του δημιουργώντας μια όμορφη τρομακτική ατμόσφαιρα. Τα φωνητικά του Danni ακούγονταν σαν να μην τα είχε αγγίξει καθόλου ο χρόνος. Η Anabelle Iratni ακουγόταν σχεδόν ακριβώς όπως η Sarah Jezebel Deva που ήταν στην αρχική ηχογράφηση του άλμπουμ. Το drumming ήταν καταπληκτικό και οι κιθάρες δημιουργούσαν μια ζοφερή, τρομακτική ατμόσφαιρα.

Μετά από αυτό, ο Danni απευθύνθηκε στο κοινό, λέγοντας ότι ο λόγος που αποφάσισαν να κάνουν ένα δεύτερο livestream ήταν επειδή το προηγούμενο πήγε πολύ καλά, και αν και αυτό είναι δημοφιλές, θα συνεχίσουν να κάνουν live streams, αφιερωμένα σε ολόκληρα άλμπουμ.

Το δεύτερο μέρος του livestream ξεκίνησε με το τρίτο βίντεο κλιπ από την τελευταία τους κυκλοφορία, Existence Is Futile, το οποίο ήταν το How Many Tears To Nurture A Rose. Ένα ακραίο βίντεο που έχω αμφιβολίες για το αν το You Tube θα το επιτρέψει χωρίς περιορισμούς. Μετά από αυτό συνέχισαν με διαφορετικά κοστούμια, τουλάχιστον για τον Danni, διαφορετικό σκηνικό στο οποίο κυριαρχούσε το εξώφυλλο του νέου άλμπουμ, και έπαιξαν μερικά από τα νέα τραγούδια αλλά και κάποια αγαπημένα των οπαδών. Η προσωπική μου αγαπημένη στιγμή ήταν το Bathory Aria που ερμηνεύτηκε εξαιρετικά.

Μειονέκτημα της όλης παραγωγής ήταν η σκηνοθεσία η οποία ήταν, για να το θέσω ξεκάθαρα, απροετοίμαστη. Δεν ξέρω αν ήταν καλλιτεχνική επιλογή, πάντως προσωπικά θα προτιμούσα να βλέπω τον κιθαρίστα να παίζει το σόλο παρά τον ρυθμικό κιθαρίστα, την ώρα που παίζει σόλο.  Κατά τα άλλα, ήταν ένα livestream που άξιζε το εισιτήριό του και αν με ρωτούσαν, σίγουρα θα επέλεγα να το παρακολουθήσω ξανά. Το livestream θα είναι διαθέσιμο για άλλες 9 ημέρες και μετά οι χρήστες θα έχουν πρόσβαση στο προηγούμενο, του Μαϊου, livestream του συγκροτήματος.

Ever since Existence is Futile was released, I am going through a second “honey moon” in love period with Cradle Of Filth, so when the Brits announced their infernal livestream entitled “The Infernal Vernal Equinox” in tribute to their legendary release Dusk And Her Embrace, I was one of the first to go on and buy a “ticket”. I have watched a few livestreams after covid made them a “trend” and was always missing the heat and passion a real live show has, so I was rather skeptical about what I would watch…

However, we have to take into account the fact Dani Filth is a brilliant artist and would make a brilliant director if he wished to attempt that, especially in horror as his aesthetics is a big part of CoF’s success.
Livestream began exactly as planned with a very lively chatbox on the side however I hid it in order to fully enjoy the show. The set was a circle of light, pyro and set made of trees, skulls and the occasional smoke from the smoke machine. Cradle Of Filth played Dusk And Her Embrace in its entirety creating a beautiful spooky atmosphere. Dani’s vocals sounded as if time hadn’t touched them at all. Anabelle Iratni sounded almost exactly like Sarah Jezebel Deva who was in the original version of the album. The drumming was amazing and the guitars created a thick gloomy, horror atmosphere.

After that, Danni addressed the audience, saying that the reason they decided to have a second livestream was because the pervious one went very well, and if this one is popular too, they will continue to do live streams, dedicated to entire albums.

The second part of the livestream started with the third video clip from their latest release, Existence Is Futile, which was How Many Tears To Nurture A Rose, an extreme video which I have my doubts whether You Tube will allow it without restrictions. After that they went on with different costumes, at least for Danni, different setting which was dominated by the new album’s backdrop artwork, and played some of the new songs but also some fan favorites. My personal favorite moment was Bathory Aria which was performed exquisitely.

Downside to the whole production was the direction which was, to put it to the point, not prepared. I don’t know if it was an artistic choice, however I personally would prefer watching the guitarist playing the solo than the rhythm guitarist.  Other than that, it was a livestream well worth its ticket and had I been asked, I would definitely choose to watch it again. The livestream will be available for 9 more days and after that the users will have access to the band’s previous, May livestream.
