Update: Από σχόλια της μπάντας στην ανακοίνωση διευκρινίστηκε ότι στα cd και τα βινύλια είναι η φωνή του Cj στην ψηφιακή εκδοχή είναι ο νέος τραγουδιστής. Πριν λίγο ο Chris McMahon πόσταρε στο Instagram οτι δεν είχε ιδέα και το πληροφορήθηκε από το δελτιο τύπου και οτι αύριο θα κάνει live μετάδοση στο instagram σχετικά.

Αναλυτικά η δήλωσή τους :

“Έχουμε κάποια σημαντικά νέα σχετικά με το Godlike που θέλουμε να μοιραστούμε μαζί σας. Το νέο μας άλμπουμ Godlike είναι πλέον διαθέσιμο παγκοσμίως ψηφιακά με μια απρόβλεπτη αλλαγή – ο Chris McMahon δεν είναι πλέον μέλος των Thy Art Is Murder και δεν συμμετέχει στο δίσκο.

Καταλαβαίνουμε ότι αυτό μπορεί να αποτελεί έκπληξη και θέλουμε να σας διαβεβαιώσουμε ότι αυτή η απόφαση πάρθηκε για να διατηρηθεί η ακεραιότητα και η κατεύθυνση της μπάντας. In a statement that came out a few minutes ago, Thy Art Is Murder announced that they have fired their lead singer from the band because of a statement he made on Instagram a month ago. They say the new singer recorded the new album last week so the review you read on our page was of the previous recording with Chris McMahon that we don’t even know if it will be released. Here’s their statement in detail:

“We have some important news regarding Godlike that we want to share with you. Our new album Godlike is now available worldwide digitally with an unforeseen change – Chris McMahon is no longer a part of Thy Art Is Murder and does not feature on the record.

We understand that this may come as a surprise and we want to assure you that this decision was made to preserve the band’s integrity and direction.

What transpired over the past month was not the cause of this action but just another symptom of the drawn-out breakdown in his character and judgment. The straw that broke the camel’s back if you will.  Long story short, the fallout has been immense. We were lobbed with threats to destroy Thy Art Is Murder from the inside if we did not capitulate to various ideologies that he holds.

Everyone has their own right to free speech and to seek their truth; they are also free to receive the consequences that that come with it.

We appreciate your support and respect for our privacy during this challenging time. As we move forward we are excited to introduce you to a new vocalist, who finished re-recording on the new album earlier this week, and will be joining us for the Godlike European tour with Whitechapel, Fit For An Autopsy and Spite, which kicks off in a few days.

Our focus remains on delivering powerful music and unforgettable performances to our dedicated fans. We’re grateful for your understanding and continued support as we embark on this new chapter together.

Ξεκινώντας με το Destroyer Of Dreams, όταν πάτησα για πρώτη φορά το play, αμέσως με έπιασε το ογκώδες, έντονο, καταστροφικό σκοτάδι τους. Όταν ακούς ένα άλμπουμ περιμένεις να βρεις 5 ίσως έξι τραγούδια που θα σου αρέσουν αλλά καθώς περνούσαν τα τραγούδια βρέθηκα να παρασύρομαι εντελώς στον κόσμο του Godlike. Ο Chris “CJ” McMahon ξεπέρασε τον εαυτό του και εξερευνά όλο το εύρος της φωνητικής του ικανότητας παρέχοντας κορυφαία φωνητικά και πηγαίνοντας τα τραγούδια στο υψηλότερο επίπεδο που μπορούν να είναι. Κατά τη διάρκεια της πανδημίας οι κιθαρίστες του γκρουπ άφησαν κάτω τα όργανά τους για πρώτη φορά από τότε που ξεκίνησαν, με αποτέλεσμα ένα είδος αναγέννησης. “Ο Sean και εγώ δεν είχαμε καν πιάσει τις κιθάρες μας για δύο χρόνια”, εξηγεί ο Marsh. “Ήταν σκόπιμο. Η μυϊκή μνήμη… Όταν επιστρέψαμε, απελευθερώθηκαν τα πάντα. Τα χέρια πήγαν σε διαφορετικά μέρη από αυτά που είχαν συνηθίσει. Ήταν πιο εύκολο να βγούμε έξω από το πλαίσιο των THY ART IS MURDER. Προσπαθήσαμε να εξερευνήσουμε νέες διαστάσεις. Εξακολουθεί να είναι μέσα σε ένα συγκεκριμένο πυρήνα, αλλά πήγαμε σε κάποια νέα μέρη”. 

Τα νέα μέρη που εξερεύνησαν είναι πιο τεχνικά, μπορείς να ακούσεις επιρροές που εκτείνονται από τους GOJIRA μέχρι τους BEHEMOTH σε αυτό που περιγράφουν στο δελτίο τύπου τους ως blackened death metal και όσον αφορά τους στίχους, πυκνό σκοτάδι και καταστροφή για την τρέχουσα κοινωνική κατάσταση, που αποδίδεται εξαιρετικά σε λέξεις. Βρήκα τον εαυτό μου να ακούει τις σκέψεις μου για το πού βρίσκεται ο κόσμος σήμερα, πόσο ζοφερό είναι το μέλλον της ανθρωπότητας και του πλανήτη και πώς είναι σχεδόν αδύνατο να ονειρευτείς σε ένα τέτοιο περιβάλλον. Αν η θλίψη ήταν ένα τραγούδι θα ήταν το A Lesson In Pain.  Από πλευράς παραγωγής, ο κιθαρίστας του συγκροτήματος Andy Marsh σχολιάζει ότι, όπως και σε κάθε προηγούμενο άλμπουμ, “η ασυμφωνία στο μυαλό μου ανάμεσα σε αυτό που ακουγόμαστε και σε αυτό που φαντάζομαι ότι θα έπρεπε να ακουγόμαστε πλησιάζει όλο και περισσότερο”. 

Άκρως εθιστικό και εξαιρετικό στην ποικιλομορφία και το πάθος του το νέο άλμπουμ των THY ART IS MURDER, Godlike, είναι μια από τις καλύτερες κυκλοφορίες που θα ακούσετε το 2023 αλλά ίσως και μέσα στις δέκα καλύτερες κυκλοφορίες των τελευταίων 5 ετών. Δεν μπορώ να αρχίσω να εξηγώ πόσο αγαπώ τον τρόπο με τον οποίο εκφράζονται οι απογοητεύσεις μου, η καταθλιπτική μου ανησυχία και η θλίψη μου μέσα από αυτό το εξαγριωμένο αριστούργημα. Αρκεί να το ακούσετε και θα διαπιστώσετε ότι αν το τέλος του κόσμου είχε soundtrack, αυτό θα ήταν Godlike.

Join me in …. congratulating THY ART IS MURDER, cause if we can say that when something is brilliant it is as if made by a god then Godlike is trully what the title suggests, divine! Godlike is the first release of the Australian band out independently and it is maybe their best album up to date.

Kicking off with Destroyer Of Dreams when I first pressed play I immediately was caught in their massive, intense, destructive darkness. When you listen to an album you expect to find 5 maybe six songs you enjoy but as the songs went by I found myself totally drawn in to Godlike’s world. Chris “CJ” McMahon outdid himself and explores the entire span of his vocal ability delivering top notch vocals and taking the songs on the highest level they can be. During the pandemic the group’s guitar players put down their instruments for the first time since they started, resulting in a type of rebirth. “Sean and I didn’t even pick up our guitars for two years,” Marsh explains. “It was deliberate. The muscle memory… When we came back, it freed everything up. The hands went to different places than they were used to going. It was easier to get outside of the box of THY ART IS MURDER. We tried to explore new dimensions. It’s still within a tight paradigm, but we went to some new places.” 

The new places they explored are more technical, you can listen to influences spanning from GOJIRA to BEHEMOTH in what they describe in their press release as blackened death metal and as far as the lyrics are concerned, pitch black darkness and devastation on the current social status, put brilliantly into words. I found myself listening to my thoughts on where the world is today, how bleak the future of mankind and the planet is and how it is almost impossible to dream in such a surrounding. If sorrow was a song it would be A Lesson In Pain.  Production wise, the band’s guitarist Andy Marsh comments that, as with every album prior, “The dissonance in my mind between what we sound like and what I imagine we should sound like gets closer together.” 

Highly addictive and extraordinary in its diversity and passion the new album of THY ART IS MURDER, Godlike, is one of the best releases you will listen in 2023 but maybe in the top ten releases of the last 5 years. I can’t begin to explain how much I love the way my frustrations, my depressive anguish and my sorrow is expressed through this fierce masterpiece. Just listen to it and you’ll find out that if the end of the world had a soundtrack, it would be Godlike.

“AND SO THEY ROT!!!” γρυλίζει ένας απειλητικός CJ McMahon καθώς εισάγει το “Blood Throne” με την παράνοια να ξεχειλίζει από τα μάτια.

Ο κιθαρίστας Andy Marsh σχολιάζει: “καθώς αρχίσαμε να δουλεύουμε πάνω στο Blood Throne, είχαμε ως στόχο να αξιοποιήσουμε την ίδια σπλαχνική ενέργεια που οδήγησε τους Death Squad Anthem, ενώ παράλληλα διευρύναμε τα όριά μας για να δημιουργήσουμε κάτι μοναδικό. Ξεκινώντας τα πράγματα με ένα break beat groove, θέλαμε να δώσουμε τον τόνο με ένα τράνταγμα στο σύστημα προετοιμάζοντας τους πάντες για το χάος που έρχεται. Το Blood Throne ενσαρκώνει την προσπάθειά μας να δημιουργήσουμε έναν ύμνο δύναμης και groove που εξελίσσεται σε μια σπειροειδή αντανάκλαση των καταπιεστικών οργανισμών και καθεστώτων που επωφελούνται και ευημερούν από τον μόχθο και τον πόνο των περιθωριοποιημένων. Godlike, the new album of THY ART IS MURDER is scheduled for release on September 15th via Human Warfare.

The band had recently released the single/video clip for the track Join Me In Armageddon, which guitarist Andy Marsh commented on:

“Join Me In Armageddon is a song that started off with one idea, self destruction,” says guitarist Andy Marsh. “I suppose throughout this record we have ended up touching on a lot of themes that came to the fore these last few years, for us, and maybe you as well. THY ART IS MURDER have their 6th album ready for release. Godlike, as it will be titled, is scheduled to be released next September by Human Warfare.

The band has posted a new single/video clip from within the new album, for the track Join Me In Armageddon. The album was produced and mastered by Will Putney.

Today, THY ART IS MURDER releases the second single from the EP entitled, “Until There Is No Longer”.

The Aggression Sessions is the follow-up to 2016’s The Depression Sessions and follows the same 6-song mini album where each band offers an original single and a cover song. For this session, THY ART IS MURDER is covering Cannibal Corpse and FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY is covering At The Gates whereas MALEVOLENCE is handling a song by American singer Anastacia.

“Before we had even completed work on ‘The Depressions Sessions’ we knew a lifelong friendship had been forged between THY ART IS MURDER and FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY, and that we would have to do another variation of the project. ‘The Aggression Sessions’ concept was born almost immediately following the completion of the first iteration but has taken many years to finally find the time to record and release it amidst the chaotic touring and music release schedules of both bands. We wanted to take things back to some of our favorite inspirations for writing and performing heavy and aggressive music this time, encapsulating the tone of the EP title. We hope everyone enjoys!
