FORBIDDEN SEED – IN SHADOWS DEEP, SHADOW OF THE CROW PT. II (STEEL GALLERY RECORDS)

Τρία χρόνια μετά την κυκλοφορία του On Blackest Wings, Shadow Of The Crow Pt. I οι Forbidden Seed επιστρέφουν με το In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II, το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε στις 12 Δεκεμβρίου 2025 από την Steel Gallery Records. Το In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II αποτελείται από 15 κομμάτια με τον Κωνσταντίνο Μάρη να είναι πίσω από τις συνθέσεις, τους στίχους, τις κιθάρες, το μπάσο και φυσικά την φωνή. Στις κιθάρες και τα φωνητικά βρίσκουμε τον Στέφανο Ζαφειρόπουλου, στα πλήκτρα τον Γιώργο Τσούτσια και η παραγωγή/μίξη-mastering έγιναν από τον Κώστα Βρεττό στα Littlebig Studio της Θεσσαλονίκης.

Σε περίπτωση που δεν είστε οικείοι με το On Blackest Wings, Shadow Of The Crow Pt. I, είναι ένα concept album εμπνευσμένο από την ταινία “The Crow” (1994) και φυσικά με το In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II συνέχιζουμε να είμαστε μάρτυρες της ίδιας ιστορίας. Δύο concept albums back to back…το λες και θαρραλέο, ειδικά όταν είναι βασισμένα σε μία τόσο δυνατή και σκοτεινή ιστορία αγάπης και εκδίκησης. Μία ιστορία που κατέληξε να έχει μία πολύ πικρή δόση αλήθειας. Μία ιστορία που ξεκινάει με μια ανάσταση από τους νεκρούς. Και σου υπόσχομαι πως αυτό ακριβώς θα κάνει και το In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II. Θα αναστήσει όλα σου τα καλά κρυμμένα, μελαγχολικά, σκοτεινά και δυνατά συναισθήματα.

Ειλικρινά πιστεύω πως συνθετικά ο Κωνσταντίνος Μάρης δεν θα μπορούσε να έχει κάνει καλύτερη δουλειά αφού από το πρώτο κιόλας λεπτό του In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II σε έχει βάλει στην συναισθηματική ατμόσφαιρα που θέλει. Από τις πρώτες κιόλας νότες θέλεις να σβήσεις τα φώτα, να ανάψεις ένα-δύο κεριά, να βάλεις ένα ποτό και να αφεθείς. Αν ακούς και την βροχή, ε τότε ακόμα καλύτερα (εγώ σαν τυχερό “αγγλάκι” δεν δυσκολεύτηκα και πολύ με το τελευταίο.)

Επιτρέψτε μου να ξεκινήσω λέγοντας πως η φωνή του Κωνσταντίνου Μάρη, γνωρίζουμε ήδη ότι είναι εκπληκτική αλλά και πολυεπίπεδη και αυτό είναι κάτι που έχει εκμεταλλευτεί πολύ έξυπνα καθόλη την διάρκεια του δίσκου γιατί με κάθε στίχο, με κάθε φράση, με κάθε ανάσα, ξέρει ακριβώς πως και που θα σε “χτυπήσει” συναισθηματικά. Σκεφτείτε πως κάθε κομμάτι του άλμπουμ αυτού είναι και ένα βήμα μέσα στην σκοτεινή, θλιμμένη και μοναχική αναζήτηση μίας ψυχής που θρηνεί, προς την εκδίκηση και μέσω αυτής, προς την συναισθηματική λύτρωση. Τώρα ξαναβάλε το άλμπουμ από την αρχή, άκουσε το άλλη μία φορά και πες μου πως σε έκανε να νιώσεις η φωνή του Κωνσταντίνου Μάρη. Θυμωμένο, θλιμμένο, αισιόδοξο, γεμάτο αγάπη, νοσταλγία, μελαγχολία; Μάλλον all of the above.

Μουσικά μιλάμε για ένα άλμπουμ με ακούραστο και δυνατό σφυγμό και, όπως και στα φωνητικά, πολυεπίπεδο. Υπάρχουν πάρα πολλά μουσικά “στρώματα” στο In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II που σε βοηθάνε απλά να χαθείς μέσα του, και τι πιο μαγικό ρε γαμώτο απ΄το να “χάνεσαι” μέσα στον συναισθηματικό μουσικό χάρτη ενός καλλιτέχνη. Ανά στιγμές περίπλοκα δομημένο για όλους τους σωστούς λόγους, θεατρικό, μελωδικό, θυμωμένο, ωμό, ελκυστικό, καθαρτικό. Εντυπωσιακές ρυθμικές κιθάρες, riff-άρες γεμάτες μελαγχολική οργή και σόλο που σαρώνουν, κάποια από τα δάχτυλα των Δημήτρη Γκουτζιαμάνι και Κώστα Βρεττό στα Pain και I Don’t Want it Anymore, αντίστοιχα. Heavy/power και progressive metal επιρροές και τεχνικές έχουν συνδυαστεί με τόσο επιδέξιο και όμορφο τρόπο, προσφέροντας μια πραγματικά υπέροχη και ολοκληρωμένη ακουστική εμπειρία.

Σε σχέση με τον προκάτοχό του (που ήταν μία πολύ δυνατή κυκλοφορία), το In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II είναι θεωρώ πιο σφιχτά δοδημένο, πιο μεστό, και για εμένα πάντα, ακόμα πιο άμεσο συνθετικά, εκτελεστικά και άρα συναισθηματικά. Το βρήκα πιο βαρύ, πιο σύνθετο και πιο μυστηριώδες. Η εξέλιξη των Forbidden Seed είναι εμφανής και το In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II είναι σίγουρα η πιο ολοκληρωμένη και εκλεπτυσμένη δουλειά τους μέχρι σήμερα.

Κλείνοντας θα σας πω ότι το In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II το έχω ακούσει αμέτρητες φορές από τότε που μου το έστειλε ο Κωνσταντίνος και μέχρι και την επίσημη κυκλοφορία του. Το έχω ακούσει αμέτρητες φορές αρχικά για να βγάλω το στοιχείο της προκατάληψης, αφού ο Κωνσταντίνος Μάρης εκτός από ένας καλλιτέχνης που αγαπώ πολύ, είναι κι ένας φίλος που αγαπώ πάρα πολύ και ήθελα αυτό να είναι κάτι που αν θέλετε, θα απομονωθεί όταν ακούω το άλμπουμ ώστε η αποψή μου για αυτό να είναι όσο πιο αντικειμενική γίνεται. Το έχω ακούσει όμως και αμέτρητες φορές, από την αρχή μέχρι το τέλος του, απλά γιατί ειλικρινά είναι ένα άλμπουμ που έχει να πει πολλά και που μιλάει στην καρδιά σου.

Το In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II είναι ένα μουσικό ταξίδι στον σκοτεινό κόσμο της απώλειας, της αγάπης, του πόνου, της εκδίκησης και ίσως τελικά της λύτρωσης. Βαθιά ατμοσφαιρικό, ελκυστικά πυκνό και καλλιτεχνικά ώριμο. Και ναι, το συγκεκριμένο μουσικό ταξίδι των Forbidden Seed μπορεί να είναι γεμάτο σκιές και μελαγχολία, αλλά το μόνο σίγουρο είναι ότι είναι μία υπέροχη κυκλοφορία που τους έλουσε με άπλετο φως!

Αφήστε τον εαυτό σας να χαθεί χωρίς φόβο στις σκιές.

Three years after the release of On Blackest Wings, Shadow Of The Crow Pt. I, Forbidden Seed returns with In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II, which was released on December 12th, 2025, by Steel Gallery Records. In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II consists of 15 tracks with Konstantinos Maris behind the compositions, lyrics, guitars, bass and of course vocals. Stefanos Zafeiropoulos is on guitars and vocals, Giorgos Tsoutsias is on keyboards, and production/mixing/mastering was done by Kosta Vreto at Littlebig Studio in Thessaloniki. Greece.

In case you are not familiar with On Blackest Wings, Shadow Of The Crow Pt. I, it is a concept album inspired by the movie “The Crow” (1994) and of course with In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II we continue to witness the same story. Two concept albums back to back…you could call it a bold move, especially when they are based on such a powerful and dark story of love and revenge. A story that ended up having a very bitter dose of truth. A story that begins with a resurrection from the dead. And I promise you, that’s exactly what In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II will do, it will resurrect all your well-hidden, melancholic, dark, and powerful emotions.

I sincerely believe that compositionally, Konstantinos Maris could not have done a better job, since from the very first minute of In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II, he has put you in the emotional atmosphere he is intending to. From the very first notes, you want to turn off the lights, light a couple of candles, pour yourself a drink, and let yourself go. If you can listen to the rain at the same time, then even better (as a lucky citizen of England, I didn’t have much trouble with the latter).

Let me start by saying that we already know that Konstantinos Maris’ voice is amazing and multi-layered, and this is something he has used very cleverly throughout the album because with every lyric, every phrase, every breath, he knows exactly how and where to “hit” you emotionally. Think of each track on this album as a step in the dark, sad, and lonely quest of a grieving soul for revenge and, through it, emotional redemption. Now play the album again from the beginning, listen to it one more time, and tell me how Konstantinos Maris’ voice made you feel. Angry, sad, optimistic, full of love, nostalgia, melancholy? Probably all of the above.

Musically speaking, this is an album with a relentless and powerful beat and, as with the vocals, it is multi-layered. There are so many musical “layers” in In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II that simply help you lose yourself in it, and what could be more magical than “getting lost” in an artist’s emotional musical map? At times complexly structured for all the right reasons, theatrical, melodic, angry, raw, attractive, cathartic. Impressive rhythmic guitars, riffs full of melancholic rage and sweeping solos, some of the fingers of Dimitris Goutzimanis and Kosta Vreto on Pain and I Don’t Want it Anymore, respectively. Heavy/power and progressive metal influences and techniques have been combined in such a skilful and beautiful way, offering a truly wonderful and complete listening experience.

Compared to its predecessor (which was a very strong release), In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II is, in my opinion, more tightly knit, more mature and even more immediate in terms of composition, performance, and therefore emotion. I found it heavier, more complex, and more mysterious. Forbidden Seed ‘s evolution is evident, and In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II is definitely their most complete and refined work to date.

Concluding, I will say that I have listened to In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II countless times since Konstantinos sent it to me and until its official release. I listened to it countless times initially to eliminate any bias, since Konstantinos Maris, apart from being an artist I love very much, is also a friend I love very much, and I wanted this to be something that, if you will, would be isolated when I listen to the album so that my opinion of it would be as objective as possible. However, I have also listened to it countless times, from beginning to end, because in all honesty it is a wonderful album that has a lot to day and will speak directly to your heart.

In Shadows Deep, Shadow of the Crow Pt. II is a musical journey into the dark world of loss, love, pain, revenge, and redemption. Deeply atmospheric, attractively dense and artistically mature. And while through this album Forbidden Seed ‘s journey may be full of shadows and melancholy, this release certainly brought plenty of light on them as a band!

Let yourself get lost without fear in the shadows!
