Μετά από το βράδυ της Κυριακής 17ης Απριλίου στο Fuzz μια σκέψη γυρίζει συνέχεια στο κεφάλι μου. Οι Paradise Lost δεν έχουν ανάγκη από εμάς να επιβεβαιώσουμε πόσο καλοί παίκτες είναι, ή πόσο μεγάλη μπάντα είναι, ή να σχολιάσουμε την καλή απόδοση τους live. Εμείς έχουμε ανάγκη να τους δούμε από κοντά, να τους αφήσουμε να σκάψουν μέσα στις σκοτεινές γωνιές μας και τελικά να βγάλουν στην επιφάνεια μνήμες, συναισθήματα, μελαγχολία αλλά και χαμόγελο.
Μετά τη σχετική καθυστέρηση στο άνοιγμα της πόρτας περάσαμε μέσα στο Fuzz. Αρχικά ο πάνω όροφος ήταν κλειστός αλλά καθώς προχωρούσε η ώρα και ο κόσμος γινόταν όλοένα και περισσότερος άνοιξε και γέμισε και αυτός. Πρώτοι στη σκηνή οι Κερκυραίου Fragment Soul. Πριν την συναυλία από την ανακοίνωση τους, είχα μπει να ακούσω τι ακριβώς θα ακούγαμε σαν πρωίμιο στην βραδιά των Lost και ομολογώ οτι δεν είχα ενθουσιαστεί.
Έτρεφα μια μικρή ελπίδα οτι ζωντανά θα ήταν καλύτεροι. Ελπίδα που δυστυχώς παρέμεινε ελπίδα μιας και η μπάντα δεν έχει ενδιαφέρον στις συνθέσεις τις, παρουσιάζεται απολύτως απονευρωμένη στη σκηνή με αποτέλεσμα το ατμοσφαιρικό doom που θέλουν να παρουσιάσουν να μην σου κινεί το ενδιαφέρον. Το σετ τους ολοκληρώθηκε στην ώρα του, με ένα μπερδεμα επι σκηνής για το αν θα παρουσίαζαν ένα ακόμη τραγούδι.
Αγωνία στο κόκκινο για τους Lost και αν τελικά θα ήταν μια από τις καλές τους εμφανίσεις ή αν θα φεύγαμε βρίζοντας μιας και στο παρελθόν έχουν υπάρξει διεκπεραιωτικοί. Ακριβώς στην ώρα τους (Εγγλέζοι όνομα και πράμα) ανεβαίνουν στη σκηνή με Embers Fire… Ανατριχίλα αλλά και κράτημα της ανάσας, πως θα ακουστεί ο Holmes, θα μας ξενερώσει ή θα είναι σε καλή μέρα; Και ήταν σε πάρα πολύ καλή μέρα, με πολύ διάθεση για χαβαλέ, επικοινωνιακότατος με έξτρα δόσεις χιούμορ. «Ωραιο καιρό έχετε, νιώθω σα στο σπίτι μου» ή λίγο πριν το The Devil Embraced «…εδώ είναι το σημείο που σας ζητάω να δώσετε παραγγελιές και σας αγνοώ τελείως και παίζω αυτό που γράφει το χαρτι εδώ κάτω (δείχνοντας το σετ λιστ) αλλά πείτε έτσι κι αλλιώς…» Ο κόσμος φωνάζει και ο Νικ μας κάνει πλάκα δειχνοντας κάπου τυχαία στο κοινό « Yes! The Devil Embraced». Το οποίο και απέδωσαν εξαιρετικά. Ακόμη και το Blood and Chaos από τοMedusa που όλοι μας σνομπάρουμε ακούστηκε ξεσηκωτικό.
Να ήταν που μας είχαν λείψει πολύ; Να ήταν που είχαν τόσο καλή φόρμα και κέφι; Να ήταν τα τύμπανα που έχουν φρεσκάρει πολύ τον ήχο τους χάρις τον μικρούλη της παρέας Waltteri; Να ήταν το γνώριμο χαμόγελο και ασταμάτητο χτύπημα του Άαρον; Το σίγουρο είναι ότι έπαιξαν εξαιρετικά και δεν τους χορταίναμε. Τραγούδια που περιμέναμε να ακούσουμε και τραγούδια που δεν περιμέναμε να ακούσουμε στο σετ, από όλο το φάσμα της δισκογραφίας τους και μοιρασμένα με τέτοιο τρόπο που δεν έπεφτε ο παλμός δεν βάραινε το κλίμα, αν μπορεί να γίνει ποτέ αυτό σε μια συναυλία των Paradise Lost. «Τώρα θα σας πούμε ακόμη ένα τραγούδι με αρνητικό τίτλο» που είπε και ο Holmes προλογίζοντας το No Hope In Sight και το Fuzz αναπήδησε στα θεμέλια του καθώς δεν έμεινε ούτε ένας σβέρκος που να μη ταλαντώθηκε! Μόλις επέστρεψαν από το encore έγινε απόλυτα ξεκάθαρο ότι το Darker Thoughts είναι ένα «νέο» κλασσικό τραγούδι για το συγκρότημα.
Ακόμη και στο So Much Is Lost το κοινό ανταποκρίθηκε πολύ θερμά και όταν έκλεισαν με το Ghosts δεν θέλαμε να ανάψουν τα φώτα.Για μένα ήταν η πρώτη φορά που τους είδα ζωντανά και η συγκίνηση και ο ενθουσιασμός δεν είναι διαχειρίσημα αλλά ακόμη και από «βετεράνους» που τους έβλεπαν για 18η φορά, ξεπέρασαν κάθε προσδοκία. Συγχαρητήρια στη διοργάνωσηκαι παρόλο και το σύνθημα του καλοκαιριού είναι #MONOMAIDEN φεύγοντας από τη συναυλία όλοι μουρμούριζαν #MONOLOST!

Paradise Lost don’t need us to certify how good musicians they are, or how great a band they are, or to comment on their good live performance. We need them, because we need to see them in person, to let them dig into our dark corners and finally bring out memories, feelings, melancholy and smiles.
After a relatively small delay in opening the doors, we walked into Fuzz. Initially the upstairs was closed but as time went by and the crowd grew larger and larger it opened up and filled up as well. First on stage were Corfu’s Fragment Soul. Before the show, since they were announced as a support, I had looked them up to listen to exactly what we were going to hear before Paradise Lost and I must admit I wasn’t thrilled. I was holding out to a little hope that they would be better live. A hope that unfortunately remained just a hope since the band has rather dull compositions, they present themselves uninspired on stage and as a result the atmospheric doom they want to present doesn’t make you interested. Their set ended on time, with a confusion on stage about whether they would play another song or not.
Anxiety was rushing for Lost and whether this would time would be one of their good shows or if we would leave cursing as they have been processual in the past. Right on time (true Englishmen) they take to the stage with Embers Fire… Shivers but also holding our breath, for how will Holmes sound like, will he disappoint us or will he be on a good day? And he was on a very, very good day, very much in the mood for fun, communicative with extra doses of humor. “Nice weather you’re having; I feel right at home” or just before The Devil Embraced “…here’s where I ask you to place orders and I’m completely ignoring you and playing what the paper says down here (pointing to the set list) but say anyway…”. The crowd chants and Nick jokes around by pointing somewhere randomly in the audience ” Yes! The Devil Embraced”. Which they performed brilliantly. Even the Blood and Chaos from Medusa that we all snubbed sounded uplifting.
Was it that where we had missed them so much? Was it that they were in such good form and spirits? Was it the drums which have had their sound freshened up a lot thanks to the little guy in the group Waltteri? Was it Aaron’s familiar smile and unstoppable banging? One thing’s for sure, they played brilliantly and we couldn’t get enough of them. Songs we were expecting to hear and songs we weren’t expecting to hear in the set, from across their entire discography and shared in such a way that the pulse didn’t drop or weigh down the atmosphere, if that can ever happen at a Paradise Lost concert. “Now we’re going to tell you another song with a negative title” said Holmes introducing No Hope In Sight and Fuzz Live Club bounced off its foundation as there wasn’t a neck left that didn’t headbang! Once they returned from the encore it became abundantly clear that Darker Thoughts is a “new” classic for the band.
Even during So Much Is Lost the crowd responded very warmly and when they closed with Ghosts we didn’t want to turn on the lights. For me it was my first time seeing them live and the excitement and enthusiasm cannot be managed but even from “veterans” seeing them for the 18th time, they exceeded all expectations. Congratulations to the production company and even though the motto of the summer is #MONOMAIDEN (only Maiden) leaving the concert everyone was muttering #MONOLOST (Only Lost)!
